The Snider-Deville art collective take their name from the lead musicians of two rock bands: Dee Snider, the lead singer of Twisted Sister, and C.C. Deville, the lead guitarist of the band Poison. In this interactive installation work, the viewer encounters a number of repurposed objects. A cymbal stands stoic against the wall, accompanied by a bottle of perfume and a five-dollar bill. A drummer’s band equipment stands alone, flanked by tell-tale signs of last night’s sordid activities. A loud percussion cymbal invites the engagement of the audience while the allure of other suggestive objects beckons from the side. So much is happening at once here. But what is happening here?

Perhaps we can deduce that these artists are themselves failed musicians, without any true “hidden talent” and feeling “wild” as the self-same tagline printed in white block letters on top of the hi-hat. Indeed, one can see evidence of “wild” hitting of the cymbal when investigating the upper rim of the cymbal.

It is perhaps suitable that the Snider-Deville group offers platitudes such as these when describing their intent:

I think the Twisted Sister song, “We’re Not Going to Take it.” perfectly realizes our "bravado" while the Poison song, “I Won’t Forget You” indicates our romantic side. They both very clearly demonstrate the need to kick ass when doing both of these things, the importance of hats, hair, swimming pools, dads, mom, "hot chicks," tight pants, the importance of enormous crowds, the importance of long hair in the face of control, the truth of makeup and television, roving lights, and how the drummer is really the one that makes this all happen and stay in sync.

It would be a cliche to say that these lyrics indicate the dual forces of soulful nostalgia and ensuing violent aggression of the members of this art collective, though in fact, this is actually the case. The poetry of this artwork clearly resides in the parataxis of these numerous, ambiguous, conflated ideas: noise, silence, confusion, direction, income, economic crash, sex for hire, love with abandon, frustration, celebration, and the ambiguous notion of what constitutes “talent.”

1.I am NOT a morning person to say the very least. Don’t even look at me till I have been up at least an hour.

2.I have a wee shopping addiction, if I go a few days without atleast buying a few things from Target I get in a huge funk.

3.I still sleep with a teddy bear my mom was given at my baby shower. His name is Teddy Beddy Bear, but I call him sleepy bears cause his eyes are droopy.

4.I had a blanket when I was a baby I called “New Soft Blankie” I left it at the bowling alley one time and we could never find it. I was scarred for life. My parents and grandparents still talk about it.

5.My Great Grandma is still alive and she is 95 years old. She even still line dances!

6.I had a creampuff ’86 Monte Carlo when I was in College…every time I stopped at a gas station or red light people would offer to buy it from me. Then, it got stolen.

7.I know in my heart that I was born to be a Mommy, one day, I pray, I will get the chance.

8.More than a few people have called me Martha Stewart.

9.I own a pair of genuine cowboy boots that I used to wear to line dance. (no, I did not buy them when it was in style to do so, I had mine way before then!)

10.I collect Eiffel Tower stuff, I have statues, pictures, X-Mas tree ornaments, glass bottle shaped like it, and even a lamp!

11.I love old southern rock music, I was raised on it. Credence Clearwater Revival, Steve Miller Band, Lynard Skynard, you name it. Oh, and I am still bitter about Proud Mary...Tina Turner butchered it! CCR is the one and only!

12.I am a little bit of a perfectionist, when it comes to cooking, crafting and sewing. I get it from my Mom.

13.I have big feet for a girl. Size 10!

14.I got my tongue pierced when I was 18, in college. I still have it in. Most days I don’t even remember its there.

15.For my job, I get to call and talk to people in the Caribbean; their accents are sometimes hard to understand.

16.I decorate my house for most every Holiday! It’s a little crazy, but I love it.

Formed in NYC in the mid-'70s by David Byrne, Chris Franz, Tina Weymouth, and ex-Modern Lover Jerry Harrison, Talking Heads soared out of their humble CBGB's beginnings to become Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and one of the most adventurous and influential bands ever. The onstage energy that propelled their rise to fame was documented in the 1982 double-LP set THE NAME OF THIS BAND IS TALKING HEADS, now available on CD for the first time. Following them through several early evolutions from '77-'81, this live gem - a 1982 Top 40 Billboard Album- is a riveting portrait of a stellar band on the rise. For its CD debut it's been expanded with over 30 minutes of rare and mostly previously unreleased bonus material.
