I could not believe my own eyes! This is the first half of my house, flying through the air with the greatest of ease! Such a morning! I took so many pictures! The basement was already finished by this time, and they set this half of the house right down on the right spot, with a little help from the spotters on the ground. I had never seen this. Our home is a modular. We looked at a hundred or so houses before we found this model. But when we first walked through the door, we both said aloud, "This is it!" I could see our furniture fitting into the rooms, and there was a room that was just right for a pool table which we did not have yet. But I could see it there. A few months later, a chance came to buy a fullsize used pool table (in good condition) for $300! Of course, we bought it...... There are differences between a modular home and a manufactured home. I'm not going to go into the differences right now, but if you're looking for such a home, be sure you check on them to see those differences. We chose to buy a modular. Singer Sewing Machine When we bought our home here in Bonnie Scotland many years ago there was one or two old pieces of furniture and the like left. The house was owned by two very elderly sisters who had both died (one died in the house) and the estate asked if we wanted to purchase any of these items for a small fee. My wife purchased, if I recall correctly, an old chair and some bits-and-bobs along with this "ancient" Singer sewing machine ~ the treadle style. Today, this sits in one of our rooms (with the actual sewing machine, hidden within the original box/cover) and my wife always has fresh flowers and candles sitting on it. This particular model is very old and hopefully falls into today's challenge (I think) perfectly! To add some "age" I did a little sketched processing. I've been cleaning up for the last two and a half hours. There were men here with wet vacuums sucking up excess water, but the whole carpet will have to be gutted. Apparently that's going to happen tomorrow. They put foam blocks under most of my wood furniture. I don't think a lot of serious monetary damage was done (nothing like the horrors of New Orleans, etc., thank god), but a lot of school papers were ruined (I still have papers to write, one due tomorrow, and a final to take). Several days worth of cat food got waterlogged. Also, several library books were waiting by the door so I could take them back to the library... I have to take them in batches because they're too heavy to carry all at once. They're completely saturated. My high school senior year yearbook, saturated. The mat that goes underneath the litter box... the bottoms of several boxes... the bottoms of two pieces of art I had sitting in front of my fireplace... all waterlogged. My laptop cord--possibly ruined (hence the battery power.) I'm going to have to call in to work tomorrow, resulting in lost pay. All of my laundry, which I had in piles waiting to wash, is saturated and soggy, and I've placed it all on the patio. I can't do anything with that stuff until tomorrow, when I can go and get some quarters and head to the laundromat. Crap, even then... how am I going to cart a ton of heavy, soaking laundry somewhere? And get my car wet? Damn. I'm just hoping it doesn't rain, so it doesn't get any more soggy. I wish more than anything that I had my parents or close friends living near me. This sucks. Crookshanks is seriously spooked too. When I walked in, he was sitting on the arm of the couch, high ground, all scared and puffytailed. Poor baby. He couldn't even get to his litter box because the entire bathroom was flooded. I had to move him into the bedroom while the men worked. At least my bedroom isn't too flooded, so I can sleep here tonight, if I can find the time. I really have to get things cleaned up so they will be able to move out all of my furniture tomorrow when the carpet people come. I want to clear off all the kitchen cabinets so they can stack stuff there if needed. I'm running on adrenaline right now. And I'm really wheezing. I need to take an inhaler... this muggy air in here is really hell for my already stressed-out lungs. Crap! I have to try and get my bedroom window open. It's really stubborn, but I don't think I could breathe in there without fresh air. Day 345 DAY 345, Today's pic is of Carys dining at home, she enjoys making funny faces at the moment in order to make people laugh, and this is one of her better ones. 8.45am I serve breakfast laste, but before I do Carys has raided the apicots from my bag and stuffed her face with all of them, so I delay breakfast some more. 9.02am She keeps asking me to put a disk into the computer to watch it, it may be a data disk all she knows, but it’s a very violent TV series called Deadwood which she then decides it not her cup of tea after just watching the title sequence with the horses. 9.30am I dine on hash browns, pork & leek bangers, curried beans and laverbread for brekky – what stunning flavours, I have reached blue-collar Nirvana. 10.01 It’s raining and we have to wait in for a paper delivery, Carys demands ‘upside down, upside down’ a game in which I hold her upside down and twirl her round while she giggles and squeals, the game always ends in the obligatory ‘again, again, again’ chant. 10.52am Paper delivery arrives and Carys bids him ‘bye, bye’ when he departs. I am lucky today Carys is in a very happy mood and is content to enetertain herself for long periods of time, say 20-30 minutes then a quick bit of attention from myself and then she’s back at reading, dressing herself in dolls clothes and her tights and cleaning the furniture and consumer electronics with the baby wipes. I settle down to some logo design for the niceman synagogue client only to discover Carys has scratched my 24” screen – argh! She seems to have cleaned my screen a bit too enthusiastically. Every day I draw cat face on the back of both Carys’ hands, recently she has taken to drawing cats on her arms and legs, they end up as scrawls as she hasn’t mastered how to hold a pen properly, today she offers to draw cats on my hands. 11.15am Early lunch today as her brekky was miniscule, I cook scrambled egg, toast, cuts of lamb and grapes, which she eats but it takes almost an hour. 12.30am Carys initiates dancing to the electronic Fisher Price piano, she presses one of the keys and then does some moves, which are, the full-twirl-with-arms-raised, violent stamping, clapping, and the-two-arms-to-the-left twirl. 1.15pm Carys doesn’t want an afternoon nap, so I try and get her to sleep in my bed by pretending to go to sleep myself and I almost drop off to the land of nod, Carys jumps in my face and chants ‘wakey, wakey’. 2pm I teach Carys to make the sign of the devil with her hand and to hum the intro riff to Iron Maiden’s Run To The Hills, her hum is high pitch and her thrusting devil sign is more like a drunken butterfly. 4.30pm Sarah comes home and Carys grasses me up for playing cartoons, notably Clifford.
