Real Photographers do Eat Quiche - Quiche Lorraine This recipe doesn’t get much simpler than this. Quiche is one of those things that once you’ve started with a base filling, you can easily modify your recipe to suit your tastes. One of the keys to making this an easy to make recipe is to buy a pre-made crust. These can be found in most freezer sections. 1 frozen 9 inch pastry pie crust 8 slices bacon 3/4 cup shredded swiss or provolone cheese 1/2 cup minced onion 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms (optional) 4 eggs, beaten 3/4 cup light cream salt to taste 1/2 teaspoon of white sugar pepper Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). 2. Crisp bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crisp. Drain and chop coarsely. 3. While the bacon is cooking whisk together eggs, cream, salt, sugar and pepper. 4. Deglaze pan by sautéing onions and mushrooms until onions are clear (reserve a small amount of the bacon fat to flavour and sauté the onions & mushrooms) 5. Spread bacon, cheese, mushrooms and onion into pastry shell. Pour egg mixture into pastry shell. 6. Bake for 10 minutes in the oven then reduce heat to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the edge comes out clean. Allow quiche to stand for 10 minutes before serving. Takes approximately an hour to make this meal. Troubleshooting question Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to fix it? I did this pic last week. Loved the colors my orb made, especially since I wasn't expecting it. When I uploaded it thru Lightroom I lost the purple (I will post pic below.) I didn't do anything other than import it. I didn't even realize I had lost the color until I was showing someone this pic in my camera and then revisited my saved version. I ended up using the in camera RAW processor to get the image as it looked in my viewfinder. But that's annoying and I don't want to have to keep doing that. Nfridge, Modular Refrigerator by designer Roger Santos The NFridge is an innovative modular fridge composed of small refrigeration cubes that allow consumers to personalize storage according to their needs. It seeks to change modern-day consumers attitude for traditional appliances by providing an innovative design with new materials, textures and forms, which reflects consumers’ personalities and is a means of personal expression. It´s dimensions and form are suitable for the most diverse living spaces, as the refrigerator can be divided in parts to become more compact in size, but still maintain a wide storage capacity. The NFridge distinguishes itself not only by its space saving design but also by its functions and technological systems, such as magnetic refrigeration, a green technology that produces constant cold more rapidly than conventional refrigerators, as well as a soft touch operating digital membrane that covers the unit and is resistant to dust and water. Bio Robot Refrigerator, Yuriy Dmitriev, Russia Four times smaller than a conventional refrigerator, the Bio Robot cools biopolymer gel through luminescence. Rather than shelves, the non sticky, odourless gel morphs around products to create a separate pod that suspends items for easy access. Without doors, draws and a motor 90% of the appliance is solely given over to its intended purpose. At the same time, all food, drink and cooled products are readily available, odours are contained, and items are kept individually at their optimal temperature by bio robots. The fridge is adaptable – it can be hung vertically, horizontally, and even on the ceiling. Different sizes and dimensions allow it to perfectly fit the accordant dwelling. General Electric Building Midtown East, Manhattan The General Electric Building, constructed in 1929-31 to create a highly visible image for the fledgling RCA Corporation, has a significant place in the history of architecture in New York City. Designed by the firm of Cross & Cross in the Gothic mode of the Art Deco style which is both symbolic and expressive of the function of the building, this tower is a major example of Art Deco architecture. The massing and articulation of the building, shown through the use of ornament and color, is remarkable and laudable; not only does this treatment illustrate the breadth of the Art Deco, but it also gives the General Electric Building exemplary status. Moreover the building is the successful culmination of the Cross & Cross firm's efforts to develop a coherent and cohesive articulation for tall office buildings. The Site The General Electric Building is constructed on the northwest portion of the block bounded by 50th and 51st Streets, Park Avenue on the west, and Lexington Avenue on the east, at the southwest corner of the intersection of 51st Street and Lexington Avenue. In 1867 Frederick and Maximilian Schaefer began to assemble lots at the western end of the block, and in 1878 they constructed the F. & M. Schaefer Brewery complex. Lots 10 and 11 on the southeast corner of the block were deeded to Saint Patrick's Cathedral in 1880. But only in this century did the block become a desirable location, a transition enabled by two major factors. In 1903 the Grant of Rights in Streets from the City of New York to the New York and Harlem River Railroad and the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Companies was recorded, a right of way that literally created Park Avenue as a grand boulevard and initiated a great development surge in this area.? Indeed, the block took on a very different tone when in 1914 the entire Schaefer tract was sold to Saint Bartholomew's Church, the third and present site of this prominent Episcopalian congregation. Only in 1929 did the Bartholomew Building Corporation, acting for RCA, purchase what would become the General Electric Tower site. By the end of 1929 the Bartholomew Building Corporation had acquired a large parcel from Norko Realty Company and Julian Tishman & Sons, Inc., and two 51st Street lots from the Nichols Holding Co. A building permit was filed for Bartholomew on December 17, 1929. Construction for the 560-foot high building began on May 3, 1930. Only a month before, the existing brownstones had been demolished.^ Erection of the building's skeletal steel frame and concrete floor arches continued throughout the summer. But RCA's negotiations to move to Rockefeller Center, then in the planning stages, had begun even in late 1929 . On January 13, 1931, the formal transfer of the tower — Bartholomew Building Corporation's lease to RCA and ten days later a conveyance from Bartholomew Building Corporation and RCA to General Electric Realty and Utilities Corporation — was recorded. The tower was completed according to the designs of Cross & Cross, the following December. The Design of the General Electric Building In the General Electric Building all of the disparate features which characterize the tall office buildings of Cross & Cross are brought together in one splendid exercise in the Art Deco style. It was as if the designers in the "tall office building department" had been waiting both for the imprimatur of a style, the Art Deco, through which their rich imagery, the so-called proto-Deco, could coalesce and for the opportunity to translate this imagery into an appropriate built form. The symbolic signature of golfer and Mercury keystones, the roundels of Morris and Fulton, the musicians and medals, the wiverns and window hoods, anchors and dolphins, and helmeted herms, culminate here in an iconography tailored to RCA: bolts and flashes crackle from the building's surface and mysterious personifications emerge from within its verticality. Likewise the handsome brickwork, from the Revillon diaper to the parapets of the Central Hanover Bank buildings, here reach an apogee not to be repeated by Cross & Cross. General Electric, like the City Bank Building, is a tall, eight-sided tower, articulated with piers and recessed spandrels, rising from a base which completely fills the relatively small site. The major material of the building's exterior is brick. In fact, three different colors, orange, buff, and a tawny color similar in shade to the bricks used in the fabric of Saint Bartholomew's Church, are laid in American bond with narrow joints but randomly, to create the allusion of yet an overall fourth color, a rich bronze. However, it was specified, even stressed, throughout the drawings that rounded brick be used on all corners that are not right angles.30 Second only to the brick, terra-cotta is used extensively. Where originally a tawny limestone had been specified for all the spandrels, copings, G.E. How Long Can Chicken Be Kept In The Refrigerator. Shock Freezer How Long Can Chicken Be Kept In The Refrigerator
Ol' Blue Eyes Here's a story from a newspaper, probably from 1999. Don't know the paper. Ghostly presence is rumored to haunt the halls of Ballinger’s Texas Grill By BRIAN BETHEL Staff Writer BALLINGER -- The interior of the Texas Grill is snug and cozy, a collection of countertops and straight-backed chairs as familiar to any small town Texan as springtime bluebonnets or a long, hot summer day. There are innumerable examples of such spots lining the state’s roadways, a beacon to travelers and a place for locals to sit and swap tales both old and new while enjoying a chicken-fried steak or a hot cup of coffee. But within this restaurant’s walls lies a storied history, stretching back to the untamed days of gunfighters and outlaws. And within its interior hallways resides a mostly silent observer, a mysterious presence who sometimes in the dead of night -- or even the bold light of day -- makes his occupancy known and then returns to silence. The Texas Grill, you see, is haunted. Its owners freely admit the fact, acknowledging beyond a doubt that their restaurant is "occupied," even in the early hours when the place is shut up tight against the darkness outside. "You can only have so many strange things happen to so many people before you decide that there has to be something here," said Joyce Sikes, who along with her husband, Larry, have owned the restaurant since 1991. "I never really believed in ghosts. Now I don’t have much of a choice." Fortunately, Norton, as the mostly unseen shade is called, is a friendly spirit, given to small pranks and only slightly unnerving disturbances. "He hasn’t ever hurt anyone, and I don’t anticipate that he ever will," she said. "If we’re going to have a ghost here, I suppose he’s a good one to have around." Norton’s legacy No one knows exactly who or what stalks the restaurant, although the "Norton" name has stuck fairly fast. In some versions of the story, he is called "Shorty" because of an alleged communication with a former cook. The name comes from the testimony of a self-proclaimed psychic who may or may not have tapped into the essence of the spirit. "She told us that was his name and that he had lived here in a little shack or cabin around or before this place was built," Sikes said. It is popularly believed that Norton may have been an outlaw who was gunned down by Texas Rangers or other law enforcement officials. Whether Norton is really the name of the entity, the description seems logical. In Texas’ frontier days, Ballinger served as a waypoint for many travelers to neighboring cities and was seat of several prominent range wars. It was a typically rough-and-tumble Texas town, and the building that now houses the Texas Grill was a combination saloon/brothel. Remnants of that former role can be seen in the many upstairs rooms, some with only an individual sink and little else, and on the first floor in features such as a bar trough meant to catch discarded liquor and send it running into the dusty streets. Even though those days are long gone, archival evidence is available to support the thesis that there was an outlaw who was indeed gunned down on the premises. Whether or not the outlaw in question was "Norton" is something that cannot be easily determined. No matter who he is, though, the vast majority of the current staff and many others who have worked at the Grill believe he exists. "There comes a time when you just have to believe that something is here," said Roger Killingsworth, the restaurant’s manager. "I’m not a person to go looking for something like this, but I’ve seen and heard enough to know that Norton is probably around." Playing pranks Most of Norton’s manifestations are small, although he has genuinely unnerved some of the restaurant’s denizens and employees from time to time. He seems to exhibit common poltergeist behavior for the most part, moving small objects here and there, opening and closing refrigerator doors, passing by unseen with the cloying scent of sweet-smelling men’s cologne to mark his passage and making strange noises such as bumps and raps. All of the cooks, though, have seen something, shadowy forms or flashes that seem to take on a human shape and move almost faster than the eye can track. "We’ve only had one little boy say he actually saw a man," Sikes said. "But you will catch shadowy movements out of the corner of your eye from time to time that look like a human figure. I’ve learned to ignore it, for the most part." The manifestations seem to be more prominent in a back dining area and in the kitchen area of the establishment, although sounds such as footsteps have been heard echoing from the closed-off area that was the brothel. Chillingly, these auditory manifestations Earthworm Jim 3D Around the same time that God created Earth, work began on a Nintendo 64 title called Earthworm Jim 3D. The Vis Interactive developed 3D platformer, based on Shiny's popular 16-bit worm mascot, has undergone thousands of redesigns during the course of man's evolution. Now, on the brink of the 21st century, with electricity popularized and the magic of "television" in millions of homes, the Scottish developer has finally wrapped up production on the game and publisher Rockstar Games has readied it for your enjoyment. The good news for Nintendo 64 platform fans is that, unlike so many oft-delayed games that teeter on the edge of becoming vaporware, Jim has arrived in relatively good form with only a few drawbacks for the nitpickers -- us -- to complain about. Stuff to know about this game: •3D platformer •Single-player •Several huge worlds to explore inside Jim's mind •Off-the-wall cast of characters •More than 15 hilarious weapons and item pick-ups •Humorous 3D environments and level themes •First N64 to offer smell options It's fairly standard stuff, really. One day while doing whatever it is that he does, Earthworm Jim is hit by a flying cow. This sends the superhero into a crazed coma. Jim awakens inside of his own mind to find, of course, that he has gone insane. The only way for the zany character to restore sanity to his own mind, it seems, is to "seek out the golden udders of lucidity that lie deep within his cow struck cranium." Make sense? Good. It's not supposed to. That said, the wacky background story for the game is the perfect indication of things to come. By the way, we realize that we've used the words 'zany' and 'wacky' in the same paragraph and damn it, we just don't care. We're kooky like that. In order to make you fully understand the gaming experience that is Earthworm Jim 3D, we're going to reach deep into our grand bag of cliche videogame review phrases for the terminology needed. Non-meanings such as "tried-and-true," and "standard mechanics," come to mind right off the bat, but let us dig even further. Perhaps nauseating press-release ready quotes like, "Earthworm Jim 3D brings the classic 2D formula of the franchise screaming into the third dimension," work better. Regardless of how we word it, though, all of the above is absolutely true. Earthworm Jim 3D plays exactly like its predecessors -- only in 3D. Go figure. You might be wondering what, exactly, the point of the game is? Damn fine question. We're glad you asked it. Put simply, Jim must travel through each different world the title offers recovering his lost marbles (a delightful double-meaning to be sure) and seeking out golden udders. Through all of this, the worm will also fight dozens and dozens of enemies, solve puzzles, square off with bosses -- you know, the usual stuff. Jim, our superhero, superego worm main character, is capable of everything from whipping the tail of his head out at enemies to firing off a wide arsenal of damaging weapons. The charismatic dirt-dweller can jump, crouch, climb, hang, roll, run, sneak, etc. -- he's got all of the moves associated with and expected of platformers plus more. Jim can helicopter hover in the air with the use of his head and he can super-jump by pressing a combination of buttons. Control is surprisingly tight and intuitive. Jim is manipulated with the analog stick. He's a fast little worm, he is, moving effortlessly along with no sense of sluggishness whatsoever. A jumps, B crouches, C-Down head whips and Z-trigger shoots whatever weapon our mud-eating main character happens to be carrying at the time. It's simple. It's easy. It works just fine. Meanwhile, the remaining C-buttons serve to rotate the horrendous camera system (which we'll hammer on in due time) and the R button, like so many platformers before it, swings the ungodly viewpoint behind Jim's back -- in theory. Levels are separated into portions of Jim's decaying mind. We've got four major worlds to contend with, including the likes of Memories, Happiness, Fear and Fantasy. They're all self-explanatory. Each world features its own sick brand of humor (which we quite like) and an accompanying cast of downright weird characters. The game has everything from Disco Zombies to classic updates to favorites Professor Monkey for a Head and the always desirable Evil the Cat. Each world (or sub-level) has a series of tasks that must be accomplished, many of which make no particular sense. For example, Jim may be required to launch a group of space-bound refrigerators into the sky and then battle giant walking chickens and water-skipping pigs. We don't suggest trying to comprehend the thought process behind the game's design. Simply accept what you see and move on. None of the goals are terribly difficult, nor are the puzzles. Think dodging bullets and firing away at enemies. Think blowing away crates for secret goodies. Think devising ways past quicksand. Finadene recipe from 1972 - teaching the island's newcomers Text: Basic Odds and Ends of Guam Cooking OLD FASHIONED FINADENE (A hot, hot, hot sauce) Grate the meat from 3 or 4 coconuts, add just a little water, and squeeze the meat through a piece of cheesecloth to produce a very thick coconut milk. Keeping adding small amounts of water and squeezing until you have collected about a cup of milk. Bring the milk to a deliberate full boil and then add about ten finely crumbled hot peppers. When the milk curdles, remove from heat, beat while cooling, and pour into containers. Refridgerate. This will produce a thick, almost red gravy-like Finadene which will keep for about a month in the fridge. The number of peppers to be used depends, of course, on your own taste. But it is supposed to be terribly hot. If serving to newcomers it is wise to warn them about it. This sauce is excellent as a substitute for hot mustard for Sashimi or other raw fish dips. It does remarkable things when lightly brushed onto a thick steak just before charcoal broiling. The sauce can also be used at the table like regular finadene, but naturally in much smaller amounts. MEAT MARINADES Finadene can be used as a marinade for almost any kind of meat or poultry. Dilute the sauce with water, about 3 to 1, pour over the meat and let stand anywhere from 15 minutes to overnight before cooking. Cider vinegar can be substituted for lemon juice if necessary, and 1/4 cup good sherry can be added if you like the flavor. Prepare thin slices of beef this way, squeeze juices out, and pan fry. For a special meat marinade, triple the diluted finadene recipe using ordinary onion and add 3 tablespoons grated or pounded fresh ginger root. You can add 2 or 3 tablespoons sugar for beef or pork, but not for chicken for it will brown too fast. After soaking, squeeze most of the liquid from the meat and broil or pan fry. It's best charcoal grilled. GINGER Local cooking also requires the use of fresh ginger root which is much prefered over powdered ginger. To keep a steady supply on hand, buy quite a lot of it when you find it in the markets, take it home and plant it in a large flower pot or box with some good top soil. Then when you need fresh ginger, dig it up, break off a piece, and replant it. The ginger will grow, provoded you bought it when it was still full and plump and planted the parts with the nodes or eyes. This is not the sweet smelling flowering kind of ginger, however, so don't get your hopes up. Fancy cooks grate their ginger, and the lazy ones just slice of a fairly thin piece, given it a whack with a meat pounder or the back of a heavy knife and let it go at that. The lazy way is okay for most meat dishes, but you should do what the recipe says for desserts.

Keuffel & Esser Company Building Financial District, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States The 8-story Keuffel & Esser Co. Building was constructed in 1892-93 to the design of De Lemos & Cordes as the general offices and salesrooms for the firm that imported and manufactured drawing materials, drafting tools, and mathematical and surveying equipment. The richly-detailed Renaissance Revival style primary façade on Fulton Street has a tripartite division: a 2-story, arched cast-iron storefront that bears the firm’s name and representations of its products; and buff brick- and terra¬ cotta-clad upper stories, with the midsection having a recessed monumental round-arched window capped by a foliated sculptural relief of a knight’s helmet, shield, and winged orb, and the upper section featuring a 2-story angled metal window bay and culminating in a decorative cornice and balustrade. There is a secondary articulated façade on Ann Street. Theodore W. E. De Lemos & August W. Cordes, born and educated in Germany, established their firm in 1884 and were active within New York’s German-American community, becoming noted for commercial structures and large department stores. The Keuffel & Esser Co., the first American company solely devoted to drawing and drafting materials, was founded in 1867 on Nassau Street by two other German émigrés, Wilhelm J. D. Keuffel and Herman Esser. Early on, the firm was successful and continually expanded, tentatively starting manufacture in 1870, opening a retail store in 1872, moving to 127 Fulton Street in 1878, and constructing a factory in Hoboken, N.J., in 1880-81. K&E introduced imported slide rules in 1880, began their first American manufacture in 1891, and became the nation’s foremost producer. Herman Esser was bought out in 1902, and the firm remained privately owned and managed by the Keuffel family until 1965. K&E played a nationally significant role in the technological development of the United States, both as a leading manufacturer of drafting equipment, surveying instruments, and related products, and as the developer of continually advanced systems, until the 1980s. This building, which remained in use by K&E for nearly seven decades, is one of the best- preserved and distinguished of the smaller late-19th-century office buildings in the area of lower Manhattan between the financial district and City Hall. DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS Keuffel & Esser Co. The Keuffel & Esser Co. was founded in 1867 at 79 Nassau Street by two German émigrés, Wilhelm Johann Diedrich Keuffel and Herman Esser, as importers and jobbers of European drawing and drafting materials. Keuffel (1838-1908), born in Walbeck, Germany, was employed in the hardware business in Germany and in Birmingham, England, prior to his immigration to Hoboken, N.J., in 1866. The next year, he joined with Herman Esser (18451908), who was originally from Wuppertal-Elberfeld. By 1869, Keuffel & Esser [hereafter K&E] advertised “DRAWING MATERIALS. Drawing Paper, Tracing Cloth, Swiss Instruments, Colors, Rubber Triangles, etc., etc., especially for Architects and Engineers, at and retail.” The singular role of this firm was indicated by the National Cyclopaedia of American Biography: Drafting was at that time in its infancy in the United States, and Mr. Keuffel soon appreciated itsimportance in relation to the phenomenal development of American manufacturing and engineeringenterprise. To supply all the requirements, in office and field, of the surveyor, engineer, architect anddraftsman and make a specialty of this business was the purpose of the new firm, and Mr. Keuffel canwell be called the pioneer in this line, because up to 1867 drafting supplies had not been carriedexclusively by any house in this country. Early on, the firm was successful and continually expanded, moving locations several times. K&E tentatively started manufacture and published its first instruments catalogue in 1870; opened its first retail store with a showroom in Manhattan in 1872; transferred its manufacturing to Hoboken, N.J., in 1875; moved its headquarters to 127 Fulton Street in 1878; and constructed a new factory building in Hoboken in 1880-81 (which was expanded in 1884, 1892, and 1900). The firm was incorporated in 1889, with Keuffel serving as president until his death. K&E, which had introduced imported slide rules in 1880, began their first American manufacture in 1891. The company became strongly associated with the product as the nation’s foremost manufacturer, credited with popularizing slide rules in the United States. In 1892-93, K&E constructed a new building at 127 Fulton Street to serve as its retail salesrooms and general offices. K&E played a nationally significant role in the technological development of the United States. K&E products, which included measuring tapes and compasses, were used in countless construction and eng Looking E down H Street NW - Chinatown - DC Looking east down H Street NW at Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown. D.C.'s Chinatown was established in 1884. But it wasn't where it is now. The original Chinatown existed along the south side of Pennsylvania Avenue between 4th and 7th Streets, with the heaviest concentration of residences and businesses near where 4th Street, C Street, and Pennsylvania Avenue met. This was the site of Center Market. Back in the days before refrigeration and corporate ownership of food distribution, people around the United States shopped at privately or publicly owned farmer's markets. D.C.'s food markets were almost all privately owned, and suffered from poor hygiene. Shopping for food meant hoping you didn't come down with the hershey-squirts from the diseases your food would be infected with. The city itself decided to act by building a state-of-the-art market, complete with running water, ice house, and mechanical refrigeration. This was Center Market, and it was so immensely popular that nearly all the downtown trolley lines converged there. Chinese and other Asian immigrants began moving into the area around Center Market in noticeable numbers as early as 1880. By 1884, the area was known as "Chinatown." As many as 15,000 people lived there. That's an astonishing number, considering that most buildings were only two or three stories high. People were just jammed into Chinatown. D.C.'s original Chinatown existed as a vibrant community until 1935. Interestingly, throughout the 1800s, the federal government was so small that it could be housed in just five or six three-story office buildings. By 1900, however, it was clear that the federal government needed to grow. In 1926, Congress finally approved construction of six new massive federal office buildings. After two years of discussion, it was decided that the area south of Pennsylvania Avenue had to be totally torn down and these new office buildings constructed there. That was the beginning of Federal Triangle -- the largest conglomeration of federal office buildings anywhere in the country. The first buildings constructed were the Department of Commerce, the Internal Revenue Service building, and the Labor/ICC building (now the headquarters of the EPA). At first these buildings just uprooted the brothels, criminal hideouts, and gambling dens that formed D.C.'s infamous Murder Bay. But as Federal Triangle construction moved eastward, Chinatown had to go. Construction of the National Archives and the Apex Building (which houses the Federal Trade Commission) forced Chinatown to move. Chinatown had a very well-organized community, however, composed of business leaders, religious leaders, politicians, and well-respected citizens. They quite literally looked for a place in the city where everyone could move together -- lock, stock, and barrel. They chose the current location on H Street NW. At its peak, the "new" Chinatown extended from G Street NW north to Massachusetts Avenue NW, and from 9th Street NW east to 5th Street NW. But this only lasted for about 50 years. The 1968 riots which came after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. caused many businesses to flee downtown D.C. Chinatown's businesses, too, fell on hard times and many of them closed. Wealthy and middle-class Asian citizens fled for the suburbs, leaving many houses and apartments unoccupied. A mainstay of the community was the OCA Bank, but when it closed Chinatown emptied even further. Chinatown was saved when the Gallery Place Metro station (Blue and Orange lines) opened in 1976. Determined to save Chinatown as a tourist attraction, in 1986 the city authorized the construction of the Friendship Archway, a $1 million traditional Chinese gate designed by local architect Alfred H. Liu. Symoblizing not only Chinatown but D.C.'s "sister city" status with Beijing, the Friendship Arch is the largest freestanding traditionally constructed Chinese-style arch anywhere in the world. But Chinatown now is in serious decline. In 1993, Abe Pollin built the MCI Center on two whole city blocks bounded by 6th and 7th Streets NW and F and H Streets NW. The arena opened in 1997, and was renamed the Verizon Center after Verizon purchased the near-bankrupt MCI communications company. In 1999, wealthy regional real estate investors built a vast new 13-story mixed-use shopping and housing complex over the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station. Gallery Place (the building) opened in the fall of 2004. It not only revitalized Chinatown, but revitalized the entire East End. Extensive construction began throughout the area as consumers, tourists, and young people flooded the area. Huge swaths of Chinatown were renovated and turned into restaurants, trendy bars, and up-scale shops. Unfortunately, this caused rents to skyrocket, and pushed most of the Chinese population of D.C's Chinatown into Maryland and Northern Virginia. The Da Hua market, the last full-service Chinese grocery, closed in Related topics: does laughing cow cheese need to be refrigerated american refrigeration company refrigerator chemical smell plate freezer for sale co2 as refrigerant refrigerator book coca cola personal refrigerator amana side by side refrigerator troubleshooting |
