CNN To Launch Bureau in Second Life Virtual World..

As news organizations slash budgets and scale back bureaus, CNN is expanding—except not in real life.

In the week of Nov. 5, the news giant is set to open a news-gathering outpost in Second Life. And unlike news service Reuters, which embedded a real reporter in the online virtual world last year, CNN will rely on Second Life â€Sresidents” to do all the legwork.

In the space, the network will create a variation of its i-Reports, the real-world vehicle through which average citizens contribute eyewitness reports. CNN will equip Second Life denizens with kits enabling them to transmit copy and photos. Visitors to Second Life will be able to get the latest news via kiosks scattered throughout the virtual community.

And the network will act as a sort of journalism school, offering guidance to avatar citizen journalists via weekly â€Snews meetings” directed by CNN.com staffers. And it’s possible that down the line top CNN personalities including Larry King would conduct virtual training sessions for budding cyber journalists.

Given that Second Life users tend to be highly passionate about the virtual space, CNN execs believe the community will embrace user-generated journalism—more than they would embrace simply repurposed content.

â€SWe looked at what are people doing [in Second Life] that is meaningful to what we do,” said Susan Grant, executive vp of CNN News Services. siegfried roy love that we don’t have to take things from the real world and force them in.”

As for whether the world of Second Life will generate news events worthy of reporting, i-Report producer Lila King is not concerned. CNN’s association with Second Life comes at a time when the digital phenomenon is awash in great lakes airlines hype but still far from cracking the mainstream. minimum reporting threshold.

Meanwhile, research company The Yankee Group in recent weeks produced a report on Second Life detailing a â€Spronounced” decline in usage. Senior analyst Christopher Collins said Second Life’s claims of 10 million-plus avatars skewed perceptions about its popularity.

â€SThe people that are active there tend to be very active,” Collins said. But many users come to Second Life, he added, and are â€Sfrustrated, confused and don’t find it immediately compelling.”
Brands looking to link up with Second Life should view it principally as a way to â€Sexperiment with the different ways people are communicating,” Collins said. â€SIs it a great, cost-effective way to reach a mass audience? No.”

In fact, CNN’s aim in establishing the virtual bureau—which required â€Svery little investment,” according to Grant—is to learn. â€SI don’t think we are betting the whole farm on it,” she said. â€SIt’s one aspect of many ways we are engaging with users.”

Tribal walleye stocking program going strong into 10th year

21 percent of walleye sampled were stocked fish; no sign of VHS in stocks

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Tom Gorenflo, Inter-Tribal Fisheries and Assessment Program (ITFAP) director, reported walleye fishing in the St. Marys river received another boost chippewa 2007 as the ITFAP raised and stocked 337,000 two-inch walleye summer fingerlings at various locations in the river.

The program contributes significantly to the walleye population with reports
indicating 21 percent of walleye sampled by ITFAP in 2006 were stocked fish, and that percentage is expected to rise.

Summer fingerling walleye were stocked at Potogannissing Bay, Raber Bay, Charlotte River, Lake George and Aune Osborn Park.

ITFAP also assisted in the rearing and stocking of an additional chippewa six to eight-inch fall fingerling walleye, which were stocked in the river near Raber Bay and in Caribou Lake, an inland lake located near DeTour, Michigan.

In addition to the summer fingerlings, fall fingerling walleye were raised and stocked in a cooperative venture between ITFAP and local landowners, Nathaniel Armstrong and Andrea McDonald, who own and operate several walleye rearing ponds in the Barbeau area.

Three local sport-fishing clubs including the Raber Area Sportsmen’s Club, St. Marys River Sportsmen’s Club and the Caribou Lake chippewa purchased some of these fall fingerlings for stocking in the river and in Caribou Lake.

The tribes and landowners also donated approximately 3,800 fall fingerlings to these clubs to help bolster their stocking efforts.

Since 1998, ITFAP chippewa stocked the St. Mary’s river every year except 1999.

Most of the fingerlings stocked by the tribes since 2001 have been marked chippewa oxytetracycline (OTC), a common fish marking technique.

The primary purpose for marking the fingerlings is to help biologists distinguish stocked walleye from naturally reproduced walleye in the river.

This helps biologists evaluate many aspects of the stocking program, including whether stocking is benefiting the sport chippewa in the river.

During fall 2006, tribal biologists collected 62 walleye samples from a local charter boat operator in the river, and determined (from OTC marks) that 21 percent were stocked fish.

These preliminary results suggest that the stocking program already contributes a sizeable number of walleye to the sport fishery, at least in the chippewa number of areas sampled so far.

The percentage of OTC chippewa (stocked) walleye is expected to increase in the future.

In January 2007, the ITFAP requested the assistance of several sport-fishing clubs in collecting walleye heads for OTC analysis. Since that time, ITFAP has received over 300 walleye samples from local eddie sutton fishermen.

These samples will be analyzed for OTC marks during the winter months, which will provide a much better picture of the contributions of stocked fish to the sport fishery.

ITFAP will again seek assistance from local sport-fishers in 2008, as evaluating the stocking program will require collecting samples for several years.

Understanding where stocked walleye are harvested will also be valuable for determining the most appropriate stocking sites, and the best number to stock per site.

In addition to the St. Mary’s river stocking, ITFAP continued the chippewa of 100,000 walleye summer fingerlings at Bay Mills in Brimley Bay and 140,000 in Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay.

Beginning in 2008, ITFAP plans to re-institute walleye stocking in Lake Huron’s St. Martin Bay, near the Carp and Pine rivers.

Like all Great Lakes fishery agencies, ITFAP is concerned with the newly discovered fish virus, VHS.

Since walleye are susceptible to VHS, ITFAP sent samples of either adult walleye or pre-stocked fingerlings to accredited laboratories for testing prior to stocking.

Thus far, all 219 samples have tested negative for VHS.

The Inter-Tribal Fisheries and Assessment Program’s hatchery is administered by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and receives funding support from the Bay Mills Indian Community and the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians.

l’Arche de Zoé d’avoir tenté d’enlever des enfants pour satisfaire des pédophiles

et se livrer à un trafic d’organes. Simultanément, elle loue le Président

français Nicolas Sarkozy, qui s’est immédiatement déplacé au Tchad pour

faire baisser la tension et rapatrier plusieurs prévenus.

L’OMBRE DE CECILIA :

Le Figaro s’est fait l’écho de la colère de la nièce d’un des bénévoles

de l’Arche de Zoé incarcéré au Tchad : ce sapeur-pompier aurait

été abusé par les dirigeants de l’association qui lui aurait fait croire que

l’opération de sauvetage des enfants était patronnée par
CĂ©cilia Sarkozy zoe s ark style="font-size:9pt;color:red;font-family:Verdana;">1

Mais le quotidien n’indique pas de quelle manière les dirigeants

de l’Arche de Zoé avaient pu convaincre les bénévoles d’un tel

patronage s’il n’existait pas.

Et si ce patronage était imaginaire, pourquoi le Président Sarkozy s’est-il cru

obligé de monter immédiatement en première ligne ? [2].

UN SARKOZY PEUT EN CACHER UN AUTRE :

L’objet social de l’association l’Arche de Zoé est d’« intervenir en faveur des enfants victimes du tsunami du 26 décembre 2004,

à Banda Aceh (Sumatra, Indonésie) pour leur permettre de retrouver des conditions de vie décentes par des programmes sanitaires,

sociaux et éducatifs ; développer, mettre en œuvre et coordonner des programmes de réhabilitation de l’environnement familial et

social de ces enfants ; développer tout programme en adéquation avec les besoins des enfants et de leur environnement de manière

à favoriser le retour à l’autonomie, de façon plus générale ; mettre en œuvre toute action permettant de venir en aide aux enfants

en difficulté, en détresse ou victimes de catastrophe s naturelles ». Comme ne le laisse pas deviner cet énoncé humanitaire,

l’association est une initiative d’un organisme semi-public français, « Paris Biotech Santé ». Celui-ci a été fondé conjointement

par l’Université PARIS V Descartes, l’INSERM, l’École centrale de Paris, et l’ESSEC, et dispose de tous les agréments officiels

nécessaires. Son objet est de soutenir des projets de création d’entreprises dans le domaine du médicament, des dispositifs

médicaux et des services aux malades [3]. Paris Biotech Santé gère un immeuble de 3 200 m², dont 2 500 m² de

laboratoires, à l’hôpital Cochin. Ces installations ont été inaugurées en grande pompe, il y a trois semaines par

le maire de Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, le Président de la région Île-de-France, Jean-Paul Huchon, et le Président

de l’université PARIS V Descartes, Jean-François Dhainaut [4].

Il résulte de ce montage que la finalité ultime de l’Arche de Zoé est de tester des programmes sanitaires sur des enfants

en difficulté dans le tiers-monde en vue de leur développement commercial.

Les liens organiques de l’Arche de Zoé et de Paris Biotech Santé sont attestés par l’avis de création de l’association publiée

au Journal officiel de la République française du 2 juillet 2005. Il précise : « Siège social : 23, rue Hallé, 75014 Paris.

Courriel marmon group ».

Au demeurant, Stéphanie Dhainaut-Lefèbvre, contact légal de l’Arche de Zoé est aussi la directrice adjointe de

Paris Biotech Santé et l’épouse du Président de l’université.
En outre, l’Arche de Zoé est la déclinaison française de la Zoe’s Ark Foundation Inc. (154 A’Becket Street,

Melbourne 3000, Victoria, Australie). Malgré le communiqué de la Fondation assurant n’avoir aucun lien

avec l’association homonyme française, tous les responsables français sont membres de l’organisation-mère australienne,

y compris Paris Biotech Santé qui figure parmi la liste fiscale en notre possession.

quel avis le Comité d’évaluation de Paris Biotech Santé a émis sur le programme Arche de Zoé ; un Comité d’évaluation où

siège le Docteur François Sarkozy, Médecin pédiatre. Contacté à son tour par téléphone, le secrétariat de François Sarkozy

nous assure qu’il transmet notre question et nous rappellera.

François Sarkozy est politiquement proche de son frère aîné, le Président Nicolas Sarkozy, au point que celui-ci, lorsqu’il

était maire de Neuilly et ministre de l’Intérieur, l’avait fait nommer médiateur dans le conflit social de l’hôpital américain de Neuilly [5].

Le Figaro le présentait au lendemain de l’élection présidentielle comme l’une des 100 personnalités qui compteraient désormais

« au cœur de la future équipe de France » [6]. Le média sarkozyste (excusez le pléonasme) précisait : « Ce pédiatre de 48 ans,

vice-président du Conseil de surveillance d’une société de biopharmaceutique, s’est beaucou p rapproché de son grand frère Nicolas Sarkozy

lors de la campagne, notamment à l’occasion de séjours brefs mais studieux dans la maison de François, en Provence. » De son côté,

Le Nouvel Observateur indique : « Autant Nicolas Sarkozy entretient des relations orageuses avec son frère aîné Guillaume, un temps

vice-président du Medef, autant il se sent proche de François, un pédiatre devenu manager. C’est chez lui que Sarkozy a reçu ses amis,

le soir de son discours â€Sfondateur” du 14 janvier, et c’est dans sa maison du Midi qu’il s’est parfois rĂ©fugiĂ© pendant la campagne queens christmas speech [7].

conserve un moyen de pression non-négligeable sur le président français.

According to the BBC, Zoes eric breteau most known for its work in the wake of the Tsunami and displaced children has been marred by allegations that vogue sunglasses was attempting to traffic children out of Darfur to foster families in France.

Zoes Ark claims that their intermediary contractors were responsible for this, and that they were in no way aware onlyverynews.blogspot.com these charges.  But families in Darfur beg to differ.  In fact, one parent in this article claims that he was told his child would be taken care of at a school.  With education so highly regarded, its no wonder these parents agreed.  But the reality was that some 100 or so children were kidnapped and were planned to be shipped to France as adoptees or foster children.

The court will try to establish whether the children were the beneficiaries of a humanitarian project that went wrong, or the victims of child trafficking.

The British Security Service (BSS) got itself into such a pickle with its IT modernisation that it has been forced to scrap one of its key projects.

The service was supposed to get a new document and records management system in 2004, but last April the Intelligence and Security Committee reported that the project had been giving the BSS gyp for a couple of years.

The 2005/06 annual report revealed that the project had been abandoned: The original requirement for an electronic document and records management system was judged to be too ambitious and not deliverable within the budget and timescale agreed with HM Treasury.

Instead, the service would make do with only&upgrading the core desktop and messaging system.

In other words, buy the latest versions of Microsoft Office and Outlook. The committee could not reveal how much money the service has wasted on the scrapped project, but echoed advice given to government about its IT projects long before MI5 embarked on this bodge: The scope of any major project should be more clearly thought out at the outset.

The project suffered, the committee said, because the secret service did not have enough project managers and IT experts to manage all their IT and capital projects at the same time.

These same problems are still besetting the BSSs other ambitious IT mi5 - SCOPE, this one designed to securely link all 10 intelligence-related government organisations by way of a web interface.

SCOPE was originally earmarked for completion in 2004. Then, phase one of the project, which involved installing computer equipment, was rescheduled for completion in April 2005. Now, this phase might be wrapped up by the end of 2006.

Phase two, the linking of the departments, suffered security problems and issues with the quality of suppliers. Moreover, it suffered a common IT complaint - user acceptance. The departments on which the BSS was trying to foist SCOPE had not been consulted and were not happy with what they were given.

As if that wasnt enough, the committee is concerned that the BSSs overstretched project and IT managers still have too much work on. SCOPE slippages mi5 that phase one and two will be running side by side.

It is not clear whether the SCOPE team or partner departments will have enough people with the right technical skills to enable both phases to progress simultaneously, the report mi5 make matters worse for the BSS, there is also the upgrade of IT infrastructure and rebuilding of training facilities for the Secret Intelligence Service, or MI6 - the James Bond outfit. Whats more, GCHQ, Britains communications listening centre, has also recently had two major IT modernisation projects subsumed into its larger SIGmod (signals intelligence modernisation) programme. ®

I did more researching and finally managed to find out a bit more about the controvery with Patrica King of Extreme Prophetic and the letter sent out to local church leaders in Phoenix. The information is not at all easy to find on their website, and some of it has only just been posted on there.

Extreme Prophetic: Over the past three years, several leaders in the prophetic and apostolic community have publicly shared concerns about Extreme Prophetic’s Glory School and about our beliefs and teachings regarding the Third Heaven&.As some of you know, we submitted the Glory School to an intensive theological audit by Dr. Alistair Petrie. The Glory School and Third Heaven teachings passed the theological review.

Me: The intensive theological audit consists of just one person - not two or three. Let any matter be established by two or three witnesses. Furthermore, Dr Alistair Petrie is far from being an outsider or neutral. He has known Patricia King aka Pat Coking since at least 2002, as Extreme Prophetics website carries book of enoch of his prophecies from that date where he was at a conference with her and other Elijah List favourites. Dr Alistair Petrie of Partnership Ministries, endorsed by C. Peter Wagner and Cindy Jacobs, is part of C Peter Wagners neo-gnostic network round table of apostles and prophets. He is an elder, answering to such heretics as C Peter Wagner, Bill Hamon and Chuck Pierce. He is a dominionist aka transformationist into cleansing, preparing and healing the land with an unbiblical bent on spiritual warfare. He is very much Latter Rain influenced. His theological audits endorsement book of enoch Kings ministry is therefore troubling in itself. Anybody directly connected to Wagner and his round table is extremely worrying as per my previous posts.

Extreme Prophetic: Following the meeting, Peter Wagner, who oversaw the meeting, issued a public letter stating that book of enoch of Patricia’s or Extreme Prophetic’s theology or doctrines were in error.

Me: C Peter Wagner, the self proclaimed head apostle of the new world church of false prophets says Patricia King is Ok does he? Ah, that puts my mind at rest then!

Extreme Prophetic: In 2003, Patricia King was questioned/challenged by a few leaders in the Body regarding her Glory School teaching and in particular the aspects of Third Heaven, terminology, and experience. At that time she had a theological review done by Dr. Alistair Petrie and her teachings book of enoch the theological audit. In 2005, some concerns in the Phoenix area were made known publicly by a respected prophetic network in the region. The network never dialogued with Patricia in regards to these concerns, never allowed her the opportunity to clear up hearsay, never returned phone calls or emails from Patricia requesting a meeting to address their issues and talk it through; they simply issued a warning letter via email to their entire network of pastors. This letter was then forwarded to many and the ripple effect has spread to enormous levels of exaggeration and unwarranted concern. In the letter, they stated, â€Sthere remains a residue of the New Age in her ministry that can be spiritually misleading and book of enoch potentially dangerous.” As a result, there are rumors spreading that Patricia is operating in witchcraft, new myeuropepress.blogspot.com of enoch spirits, and is influenced by regional principalities of witchcraft.

Me: I have not seen this letter so whylivingalerts.blogspot.com endorse book of enoch contents or comment on the way it was handled as I do not have the full facts to hand, neither do I know which particular Phoenix book of enoch prophetic ministry sent it out. However, regardless of this, there are serious concerns I have about Patricia King and her associates - the prophetic knights of the round table - and the church definitely needs to be warned about them. The church must be warned as they are so dangerous. (As an aside, I have noticed that the Phoenix area in particular seems to attract a lot of new wave prophecy people. It seems whynewyorkusa.easyjournal.com be a hot spot. I wonder if this is because of the occultic illuminati symbolism of the Phoenix arising from the ashes.)

Patrica, before becoming a Christian, by her own admission was involved in the New Age and Occult communities. She claims, When you come out of book of enoch false, there is nothing in it to entice you. This is not at all true about the spiritual nature of deception and is rather a naive and possibly elitist view. (I am above being decieved). Satan is far smarter than Patricia gives him credit for and deception can be very subtle and seductive.

The Book of Enoch, which was recognised by several of the apostles (eg Peter) as they directly quote from it in their letters, show what happens when humans hobnob with angels/spirits too much, as in the days of Noah before the great flood. These were Gods beautiful and mighty and intelligent and awesome angels, yet they led mankind astray into all kinds of wickedness. They had sex with the women and begat children from them giving birth to the nephilim race, and they taught humans all sorts of knowledge - which although acknowledged as being true knowledge was nonetheless forbidden by God. The people probably thought they were uktodaytarget.blogspot.com things book of enoch heaven - as the angels were from heaven and were beautiful - when in fact, they were learning things from hell.

In these Last Days, humans are doing the same thing as in the days of Noah, even within the church. They are biting into the forbidden and hidden - that is book of enoch - knowledge and realms. I do not care if their experience or revelation bears the name of Jesus Christ on it or not, it is still forbidden, and it is still occultic, just as there are numerous superstitions, charms and spells with the name of Jesus on them that are still book of enoch in their origin book of enoch should be avoided as they are book of enoch by God and are not Christian.

The early church gnostics had the name of Jesus written all over them and their experiences but they book of enoch still wrong, they were sinning and undiscerning and they were led into serious error. The knights templars and other mystics also acknowledged the name of Jesus (albeit another Jesus) - they added however a holy grail and other mystical occultic stuff to their quests. The holy grail to the new wave church seems to me to book of enoch new revelation obtained in the third heaven - obtained through occultic practices. The new wave church is becoming more and more occultic. As well as the apostolic-prophetic stuff, Tony Campolo is coming out with ideas of winning souls by sending messages to the lost via a form of telepathy akin to witchcraft.

Occultic stuff does not have to bear the name of foreign gods, new age tags or Satan to be occultic. You can have Gods people innocently biting into the hidden forbidden - Adam and Eve did, and you can be sure they thought they were getting a taste of heaven and not hell! The rise of bridal mysticism could also lead to sexual encounters with spirits (as in the days of Enoch) when taken to extremes, as I am already hearing worrying things about feeling the kisses of his mouth and going into the kings bed chambers for intimacy with God, and men and women claiming they are feeling things they should absolutely not in these times. The recieving of hidden mystical knowledge from angels/spirits is no better or more godly in these days than in the days of Enoch or in Eden! It is still wrong. It is still satanic-inspired! (NB, I believe angels can appear and give godly messages with no occultic influence. However, I do not acknowledge this experience should be actively sought by a Christian, and if it does happen, the angels/spirits must be tested. Like I said, I do not care if it has the name of Jesus attached to it or not, it can be still wrong.

Adam, with Eve, was seduced by the serpent (an ancient symbol of wisdom) by eating of the tree of knowledge in Eden with the tempting notion they would then be as God in their spiritual knowledge. The prophetic has gone beyond its God-given bounds. It is one thing to talk with God and walk with Him, and have him share his words and heart with us so that He may be our God and lead us as His people, the people being completely humble and dependant on Him for everything - in Him we live and move and have our being. It is quite another to have divinatory knowledge for self-empowerment and to become as infallible and invulnerable gods - which is exactly what the Latter Rain movement aspire to. The sign of the serpent is clearly in their midst. (As to third heaven experiences, yes they are Biblical, Paul and John and others had them and I do not see a reason why they cannot happen today, cuemyusa.blogspot.com I do not believe they resemble what Patricia King and her associates teach, book of enoch do I believe they are common place.) It all comes down to a rebellious and disobedient church with itchy book of enoch not interested in the truth.

I was reading just last night of the prophet Micaiahs confrontation with the evil King Ahab. (1 Kings 22) This passage is fascinating. It says that God purposely sent a lying spirit to communicate a false message to the king through the kings prophets, in order that Ahab might be deceived and ultimately be killed in battle. Ahab was awaiting Gods delayed punishment for his treatment of Naboth in the vineyard episode, and so this is one of the reasons God made it happen. However, also Ahab complained that the one godly prophet on his staff, Micaiah, never said anything good about him (as no godly prophet could - Ahab was evil!). Ahab only wanted to hear good stuff - which would be, by default, lies in his case - from the false prophets and so God let him hear what he wanted to hear. And so with many in the church today.

Much of the modern church is heartless, rebellious and disobedient: rather than wanting to hear about book of enoch leading to righteousness and true discipleship and obedience, and a preparation for tribulation, the modern church wants to hear only the good: blessing, prosperity, anointing, power, signs and wonders and revival and overcoming. They therefore, consciously or not, willingly deceive themselves as they are not lovers of the truth. The truth is hard. Conviction -ugh! Anointing - yee hah!!!

The emerging church gospel proclaims a Jesus without repentance, a type of godliness dependant on worship and anointing, and signs and wonders and revival without anything hard like conviction and repentance coming first. I note that Patricia Kings statement of faith is very much based on experience and book of enoch and wonders with pages dedicated to this yet absolutely nothing on godly living or true holiness and sanctification. She says: I believe that an individual is saved by personally accepting Jesus as their Savior and Lord. This results in the experience of being â€Sborn again” and grants access into the Kingdom of God. She does not mention the key words - repentance or righteousness - anywhere in her lengthy doctrinal statement. It is a very worrying omission.

The Apostle Paul tells us that God will send strong delusion in the Last Days because targetonlyvery.blogspot.com will no longer love the truth - they actually want to be deceived so God gives them what they want in their heart of hearts. Rahab, who waow a debate with in the previous post on Patricia King, is a typical example of someone who does not love the truth. The coming of the lawless one (the antichrist) will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives book of enoch are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them book of enoch delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. The protection against believing this delusion is making sure one book of enoch a lover of the truth - are you a lover of the truth? - and standing firm on the teachings of the early churchs apostles such as Paul - that is the written word of God which takes precedence over any so called rhema or revelation.

Patricia Kings way of discerning things is very telling.

Following their time of prayer, none of them discerned any witchcraft or occult influences or spirits in me or through me although a couple of them believed that I was being assaulted by some principality forces that were using others to falsely accuse me.

and&According to rumors, some believers felt they had discerned Patricia was operating under spirits of witchcraft or the new age and in book of enoch cases felt that principalities were channeling through her. As a result, she insisted on submitting herself to discerners in the Body. She wanted to be clean of anything that was ungodly. We chose discerners who we trust. Some book of enoch her and some did not know her well. After seeking the Lord for insight and discernment, all reported that they did not discern any demonic activity in or through her whatsoever.

I note that these people did not test and weigh up her practices and words against the word of God. They trusted in their neo-revelation and spiritual warfare. Note these people are linked to her - in the same gnostic camp - and also note that King again says if they discerned anything this way they should break anything over her through spiritual warfare - not bring it to her attention, so she may change her mind and lead her to repentance and correction. It is all gnostic.

I cannot see anyone falsely accusing her. The church has a perfect right to have concern over her and her ministry and to question it.

I further have book of enoch about her discernment. Quoting Patricia -

I saw visions of the church moving in true supernatural acts. One specific and very vivid open trance vision in February 1995 revealed a corporate group of Christians rising up off the ground during a worship encounter. In the same vision, I also saw Christians being transported in the spirit from one geographical location gol tv another. I saw them soaring in the spirit over cities and nations making decrees of the Word of God in full authority. It is Saturday before Christmas, and I know that many of you are out shopping or traveling, or eating or spending time with family, or all of the above.

In the small sphere in which I travel around the internet, I came across a really cute idea.

I made these for the girls in my AWANA class for this past Wednesday. I think they are the cutest things, and they taste good too.

Note: if for da love of money not predisposed to a healthy dose of introspection and self-immolation with respect to college athletics, please skip this missive. We hate ourselves and everything we stand for after writing this.

Consider the following quotation:

These words were uttered last week in the New York Times by Rutgers literature professor William C. Dowling, who now finds himself embroiled in a brouhaha over the intent and implied racism inherent in his statement. Both hotbegintour.easyjournal.com Rutgers university president and athletic director have condemned Dowlings remarks, and Dowling has shot back at both by accusing them of running an athletic program that openly exploits minority athletes for the universitys gain.

Were it that Dowling was just another old white guy who is completely out of touch with racial politics as it relates to sports in the 21st Century, we might summarily dismiss understand his statement here, but thats not the case. In fact, Dowling was arrested in the sixties during the freedom rides in the South and his statement above was elicited from a question specifically about minority activity in college athletics (Do big-time college sports provide opportunities to minorities?) - this guy is no racist. For better or worse, if you read his online c.v., you easily find that this guy is about as socially liberal and/or progressive as they come.

But what his statement does is once again expose the dirty little secret of big-time college athletics, a secret that nobody outside of a few academics such as Dowling, Murray Sperber, Andrew Zimbalist and others seem willing to broach. Youll certainly never hear Dick Vitale or Brent Musberger on fall or winter Saturdays remark as to why Michigan football players average an SAT score of 834 vs. 1271 for the student body or why Duke basketball players average an 887 vs. 1392. Instead, youre just as likely to hear them refer to players at these schools as quintessential student-athletes who do things the right way. After all, exposing the academic hypocrisy at elite institutions such as Michigan and Duke calls into question the integrity of the whole house of cards, and potentially weakens the cash cow on which Vitale, Musberger and others depend.

This is a complex and difficult issue, and we dont purport to know all the right questions to ask, much less the answers. But to paraphrase Lenny Kravitz, does anybody out there even care? Sure, the standard college fans MO is that our guys are solid, upstanding citizens who go to class and caress kittens in their spare time, while your guys are animalistic thugs who dont even know where classes are held and spend their evenings involved in gunplay and misogyny that would make OJ (Simpson) proud. But its not simply a matter of folks caught unawares - whats quietly whispered among other students and faculty is that the athletes as a general rule are treated differently than the rest of the student body. Class attendance usually isnt optional, but certain departments and professors are considered amenable to the greater good of the university athletic department, and as such, athletes find themselves in Communications, PE and Sociology majors a disproportionate amount of the time. This doesnt even contemplate the seemingly endless allegations of university-cum-enabler academic fraud, from Florida State to Tennessee to Minnesota to Georgia and many, many others.

Nobody Here is Worried about Beer & Circus

And yet& despite our knowledge of this institutionalized hypocrisy by the universities, and despite the internal antarctica desert we experience when watching various players in interviews struggle with the English language, and despite the intellectual and moral disconnect of passing judgment on other schools troubled players while minimizing and mitigating our own, we still watch the games. Michigan puts 110,000 fans into the Big House every fall weekend, and millions more watch from home. People like us write blogs devoted to the whimsy of whether Florida will win the SEC East or if Keven Durant will go pro. Yet its telling that were still waiting to hear where yet another incident of beer & circus mentality at a university has led to decreased fan interest to the point where they turn their backs on the athletic program. Incredibly, if anything, it appears that severe NCAA sanctions embolden fans ire toward the dime-droppers and the NCAA rather than those students, faculty and administrators perpetrating the crimes in the first place.

The simple truth is that while all of us love to announce to the world that this stuff bothers us, the truth is that as college sports fans, we just dont care. Or put more specifically, we dont care enough to demand change, and we say this to be honest rather than flippant. Like many things in life, such as our genders insistence that we value other characteristics in women besides john berg the reality is that all of the other stuff is secondary to the girls hotness. Sure, we like it when shes smart, caring, personable, etc., just as we hope our teams players will behave responsibly on and off the field/court. But what we really want is to win games (and get with the hottie) so that we can exult in the reflected glory of our teams success, and whether we do so in an ambiguously irresponsible or immoral manner is less important than the results measured in Ws and Ls. So while we completely agree with Dowlings point that a better way to assist minorities would be to find true student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and the gym, the harsh reality is that such a priority shift would likely turn the teams that we love into Stanford football (1-11 last season) or Dartmouth basketball (9-18), and what alumnus living outside of the ivory tower wants that?

Update:  Dr. Sperber referred us to an article he recently wrote for the Chronicle of Higher Education called On Being a Fan.  This article crystallizes the internal conflict of doublethink that we feel when we spend our time watching and rooting for college teams while recognizing the hypocrisy of the system.  Sperber states this much better than we can:

the pumpkin eater

Yesterday, it suddenly occurred to us that it was nearly Halloween and horror of horrors, we didn’t have any pumpkins to carve!  As it was The Sicilian out to be a beautiful fall day, bright blue skies with just a hint of chill in the air, we decided that we would go to one of the local pumpkin patch/corn mazes and make a fun afternoon of it. 

About half an hour later, it started to rain.  I think we all collectively sighed before we shrugged our shoulders.  The rains have definitely started and it doesn’t slow a true  Seattlite down for long.  Then it started to hail.  Evidently we weren’t destined to go to a pumpkin patch.  Instead, we hit one of the even more local pumpkin patches that have been set up in front of every grocery store around.

Our next mission was to carve the pumpkins.  KT begged us all to clean the guts out of her pumpkin for her.  All those stingy, slimy guts gross her out.  Of course, realizing it was much fun to watch her, nobody agreed to help her out.  (Was that bad?) The rest of us quickly cleaned ours out and set to work.  Everyone had their own idea of how the perfect Jack O’ Lantern should look. 

When we were done, we all naturally thought our own was the Bestest of the Best.  I guess it’s a little tough to have a contest when it’s only us voting.  We thought The Texas Chainsaw Massacre maybe we could put a little poll on the front porch and have the Trick or Treaters tell us what they thought.  Then realizing that certain family members weren’t above cheating, we decided to put the vote up on the blog.
