Well, to clarify its been back and forth between military authoritarianism and democracy...minus the coup in 1999 when Musharraf took power.
Its so screwed up over there that the issues with our politicians seem trifle in comparison...

The US is clearly backing up a corrupt regime in the case of Benazir Bhutto.
The public support is NOT with Musharraf anymore (although I think he is good for the job) and the situation in Pakistan is getting worse based on some of his strategies.
Being from the region and knowing people that are there right now I know first hand that by supporting this US is making bigfoot sightings enemies in the general public of Pakistan.I bhutto assassination pictures by supporting Benazir now a short term advantage will be achieved but in the long term this can turn kennedy honors contrary to popular belief the population is not going to elect a radical Right wing leader in Pakistan if Musharraf / Benazir is gone.
