fresh bread
You know you want some.
3 cups all-purpose or bread flour, more for dusting
? teaspoon instant yeast
2-3 teaspoons kosher salt (less if using table salt)
1. In a large bowl combine flour, yeast and salt. Add 1 5/8 cups water, and stir until blended; dough will be shaggy and sticky. Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let dough rest for 12-18 hours at warm room temperature, about 70 degrees.
2. Dough is ready when its surface is dotted with bubbles. Lightly flour a work surface and place dough on it; sprinkle it with a little more flour and fold it over on itself once or twice. Gently and quickly shape dough into a ball. Place ball on a floured surface, cover with a cotton towel and let rise for about 2 hours. When it is ready, dough will be more than double in size and will not readily spring back when poked with a finger.
3. At least a half-hour before dough is ready, preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put a 6- to 8-quart heavy covered pot (cast iron, enamel, Pyrex or ceramic) in oven as it preheats. When dough is ready, carefully remove pot from oven. Turn dough over into the pot, seam side up; it may look like a mess, but that is O.K. Shake pan once or twice if dough is unevenly distributed; it will straighten out as it bakes. Cover with lid and bake 30 minutes, then remove lid and bake another 10-15 minutes, until loaf is beautifully browned. Cool on a rack.
Yield: One 1?-pound loaf.

Obama 'Tour'
Geoff and Jeremy mentioned that some guy is charging $50/person for an on-island Barack Obama tour. Seriously, dude? We do it for free. Stops included the President's grandma's apartment building, where he lived during high school, shown here, complete with Geoff and Todd being geeks (while Jeremy and I sit in the car). We also drove by Baskin Robbins on Beretania (where he once worked), Punahou School (where he graduated), Kapi‘olani Medical Center (where he was born, as was I) and the University of Hawai‘i (where his parents met). We also dined two tables away from his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng -- bet you don't get THAT with the $50 tour!
Jungle Room -Dans favorite!
This room was added on and there are windows here. But the room is clearly jungle and they say it reminded him of the tropics where he loved it.
I notice the coffee table is similar to the dining room table I had. All that is missing is a bears rug! The brick wall is a waterfall. Lisa Maries favorite chair is the half circle one with the teddy bear.

Suzanne Fry at the Farm to Fork Events dinner
The first Farm to Fork dinner of 2011 was served up Saturday under welcoming skies at a spot that may sound familiar: Fry Family Farm, the source of those hardy veggie starters sold around the Rogue Valley.
As Farm to Fork Events did last year, organizers are putting on a series of dinners from June through October at different farms, orchards and ranches. Ingredients for each dinner are unique, dependent on what mother nature and caring producers and growers are able to make ripe and ready that day.
The intention, beyond reuniting people with the source of their food, is to spotlight local food producers, chefs and winemakers, and remind us that, like a big family, we’re dependent on each other. Strangers gather, spend the evening sharing a meal at communal tables and leave feeling reassured that there are others who believe in the locavore philosophy.
Like every part of this genuine experience, Fry Family Farm is not an invented name; there is a real family. Steven, Suzanne, their five daughters and other Fry family members greeted the 135 Farm to Fork supporters at their Medford farm. “You are part of our family now,” said Suzanne Fry, her arms open wide.
At the beginning of the event, guests gathered near greenhouses filled with basil and kale, and tasted fresh asparagus and crostini topped with duck confit and sorrel pesto. With glasses of 2010 Abacela Albarino in hand, Steven took everyone on a tour of the fields. He stood in front of tidy rows of tomatoes and explained how much he appreciated being treated like a “rock star”: “I’ve been waiting 30 years for this,” he said, cracking up the crowd for the first of uncountable times throughout the evening.
Later, Rogue Valley Brambles’ owners Ken and Susan Muller confessed that it took an hour to pluck each duck for the evening’s entree. They also introduced their newborn son, Oren, and said they will be hosting a Farm to Fork dinner July 30 at their Talent farm.
Other speakers were Chef Braden Hitt of Smithfields in Ashland; Abacela winemaker Andrew Wenzl and vineyard manager Alex Cabrera; and Tracy Harding of the Rogue Valley Farm to School program, the recipient of the evening’s donations.
At the end of the evening, Farm to Fork’s service manager, the beautiful Erin Daugherty, surprised founder Matthew Domingo with a strawberry birthday cake. Everyone sang “happy birthday” to the 34-year-old chef, just like…family.

Story Bridge, Brisbane Qld, Australia
The Story Bridge was opened in 1939. It was named after John Douglas Story, because he was the main advocator for the bridge to be built. The bridge is an icon, and tourist attraction.
In 2005, Bridge Walks started, and they are very popular with the tourists. I have heard it is a fantastic view all over the city from the top of the bridge. I am going to do the walk when the weather gets cooler.
I caught the Brisbane CityCat river ferry into Riverside place, at 4.00pm. It was a very hot day here today, temps up around 34 degree Celsius. By late afternoon the air was bearable, just.
I sat at the Boardwalk bar and bistro, with a cup of coffee, and sketched. I was there, until 6.30pm. I had the pleasure of seeing the workers hurrying to the ferry for their journey home, and the stragglers claiming tables with a cold drink and discussing their work day at leisure. I sat there amongst the chatter and clinking of glasses, and watched the bridge for some time.
I tuned it all out, and started to sketch. The time flew by. By the time I had finished it was dusk, the lights were glittering in the skyscrapers, the sun was sinking, the Flying Foxes were coming out to forage. I packed up, and hurried back to the ferry terminal. I got there just in time to catch the ferry home. I stood on the stern, hair blowing in the wind, watching the the sparkling city lights recede, and the Flying Foxes over head. It was a wonderful couple of hours!

The Reason for Our Trip
I guess this place was featured on Man vs Food (which is an amusing show if you've nothing better to do) at some point. We figured we'd try it out. They have something called The Kitchen Sink (which is a giant, ungodly amount of icecream served to you literally in a bowl that looks like a kitchen sink). The table next to us got one. It took about ten little kids to polish it off but they did it. I guess only two people in the history have been able to eat it all by themselves. Gross. Anyways, it was pretty good. It's in Walnut Creek, which is a very nice and quiet part of CA.

Secret Mission on The Death Star
The time has finally come for Boba Fett to complete his Secret Mission. With the help of a few friends, the finishing touches are being completed under Fett's strict command.
Boba Fett: That's it Chewie, make sure it's good and secure. The last thing we want is for all this to come crashing down before STB's squad returns from their mission.
TK-432: Dude, didja stop going to the gym, or what? You must weigh a ton! I think you're actually crushing my armour!
Fett: TK's! As your Fearless leader says - I find your lack of concentration disturbing! Stop goofing off and straighten up that plant. I can't believe how sloppy you guys are!
TK-1011: Well, you try securing all this stuff with malfunctioning antigrav tools, while standing on the shoulders of Gungan reject who can't stand still!
Fett: Um... I don't hear Chewie complaining.
Chewie: Dgreeold cfkhoofpeje wfjfiepsdndt?
TK-432: Oh, no? Then what was that?
Fett: Obviouisly your universal translator is also malfunctioning. He asked if you want some cheese with that whine?
TK-1110: You're lucky I'm up here and you're do --owww! Vader's Dogs! I just fused my helmet to the ceiling!
Chewie: Krtirelll thjemen imbekfrifdsdsls!
Fett: It's OK, Chewie, they're just Clones. They can't help it. I'm sure when we see the look on STB's face when he returns, it'll all be worth it. Just hope that spycam I installed doesn't short out before he gets back.
Bunny - The Original Good O'le Boy - Authographed Picture
Bunny was my dog during the 1980's he was a good ol'e boy. My roommate decided he wanted a dog, I really didn't want one so he told me that he would be responsible for it. The first night, I g threw an old bathrobe in a corner under an end table he could use for his bed and thought no more of it. Not too long after I went to bed I heard "scratch scratch" then silence and again "scratch scratch" and silence. I got out of bed and there with this hound moving his bed closer and closer to my room. I picked the rag up and brought it into my room and from that day on Bunny was really my dog, he liked my roommate Jim too but he looked at me more as his master...there are a lot of funny Bunny stories, like I said, he was a Good O'le boy!

One for the photo
Back at work in hot hot hot Switzerland (up to 36 degrees today!!) after 2 weeks in beautiful sunny and hot hot hot London and three days of showing some of Switzerland's fine scenery to a visiting friend from the US. I haven't yet had time to go through my pictures from London, haven't even downloaded all of them to my computer yet. So I still have to post some older shots, such as this one, which I wanted to post for quite some time now, but somehow never got round to do so.
In spring, I spent a long weekend in the mountain, in Davos, where I went to one of my most favourite cafes, "Kaffee Klatsch". I ordered my favourite coffee (Vanilla Hazelnut Latte) at the counter, chose a nice table and took some shots of the cafe's interieur. When the waitress brought me my coffee, I was just looking through the shots I had taken on the journey up on the camera display. When she saw my camera, she looked at the coffee and said "Oh, this one doesn't look good enough for a picture. I should make a better one" - apparently, they "pattern" on the coffee hadn't turned out nicely enough. A few minutes she appeared with another cup - "that one's now much better!" So I ended up with two most delicious coffees, one of them free "for the camera" :-).
The one thing I'm wondering about though is, how she knew that I was intending to take a picture of my coffee (which of course was exactly what I was intending to do). I can only surmise that she, like me, is one of those people who likes to take pictures of their coffees and teas in those special cafes where they really enjoy what they're doing and do it well and try to do something a bit special, and not just a simple cup of coffee :-).
I can highly recommend a visit to this lovely place to anyone visiting Davos (and I'm not just saying that because of the free coffee). It's a charming place, with delicious coffees, tasty food, friendly people, good service and a delightful atmosphere to drink coffee and read a book. Simply great :-)
We will wait at the Cafe Mozart
It’s obvious that with such an evocative name as Mozart, getting a table here can be quite a challenge. That can also be down to the cafe’s prime location standing as it does right next to the Hotel Sacher and the state opera building. Graham Greene wrote the script for the classic movie ‘The Third Man’ here and even incorporated it into his story with a scene from the film ultimately being shot here. From the first glance, everything about the Cafe Mozart is evocative of ‘Old Vienna’; the classic Thonet chairs, the lacquered wood wall panelling, the polished mirrors behind the bar and the elegant wood partitions between the private booths. If that wasn’t enough to remind one of the timeless chic of former times, of course the coffee house is illuminated by glittering chandeliers. The overall effect is charming and welcoming and the fact that it’s also full adds a pleasant bustling energy to the place. The staff are polite and attentive, the menu is bursting with goodies with several dishes dedicated to the famous composer. You’ll also find a choice of around 15 different coffees to tempt your palette.

Inspecting the party table
That spot in the middle is for the cake -- which is on a pedestal thingy, of course. Otherwise the spread would have no height. Which would be unacceptable.

Teak Furniture...
I had to go to our mail house this morning to grab a few items from our travel cases since we are going into our travel season. In our main warehouse I stumbled over a shipment of teak furniture.
There are some really interesting pieces here. A few coffee table looking things and several outdoor seating pieces. I truly wouldn't mind having some of this stuff out on my patio, if I had a patio.
Maybe after Meg and I move out of the apartment when we buy a house next year.
