One for the photo

One for the photo

Back at work in hot hot hot Switzerland (up to 36 degrees today!!) after 2 weeks in beautiful sunny and hot hot hot London and three days of showing some of Switzerland's fine scenery to a visiting friend from the US. I haven't yet had time to go through my pictures from London, haven't even downloaded all of them to my computer yet. So I still have to post some older shots, such as this one, which I wanted to post for quite some time now, but somehow never got round to do so.

In spring, I spent a long weekend in the mountain, in Davos, where I went to one of my most favourite cafes, "Kaffee Klatsch". I ordered my favourite coffee (Vanilla Hazelnut Latte) at the counter, chose a nice table and took some shots of the cafe's interieur. When the waitress brought me my coffee, I was just looking through the shots I had taken on the journey up on the camera display. When she saw my camera, she looked at the coffee and said "Oh, this one doesn't look good enough for a picture. I should make a better one" - apparently, they "pattern" on the coffee hadn't turned out nicely enough. A few minutes she appeared with another cup - "that one's now much better!" So I ended up with two most delicious coffees, one of them free "for the camera" :-).

The one thing I'm wondering about though is, how she knew that I was intending to take a picture of my coffee (which of course was exactly what I was intending to do). I can only surmise that she, like me, is one of those people who likes to take pictures of their coffees and teas in those special cafes where they really enjoy what they're doing and do it well and try to do something a bit special, and not just a simple cup of coffee :-).

I can highly recommend a visit to this lovely place to anyone visiting Davos (and I'm not just saying that because of the free coffee). It's a charming place, with delicious coffees, tasty food, friendly people, good service and a delightful atmosphere to drink coffee and read a book. Simply great :-)

We will wait at the Cafe Mozart

We will wait at the Cafe Mozart

It’s obvious that with such an evocative name as Mozart, getting a table here can be quite a challenge. That can also be down to the cafe’s prime location standing as it does right next to the Hotel Sacher and the state opera building. Graham Greene wrote the script for the classic movie ‘The Third Man’ here and even incorporated it into his story with a scene from the film ultimately being shot here. From the first glance, everything about the Cafe Mozart is evocative of ‘Old Vienna’; the classic Thonet chairs, the lacquered wood wall panelling, the polished mirrors behind the bar and the elegant wood partitions between the private booths. If that wasn’t enough to remind one of the timeless chic of former times, of course the coffee house is illuminated by glittering chandeliers. The overall effect is charming and welcoming and the fact that it’s also full adds a pleasant bustling energy to the place. The staff are polite and attentive, the menu is bursting with goodies with several dishes dedicated to the famous composer. You’ll also find a choice of around 15 different coffees to tempt your palette.
