I wanted to write this post in Croatian, but somehow it just didn't flow right, so I decided to keep it in its original form - in english. World works in perfect balance. In the mist of rights and wrongs, there are nights that are erased by sunrises, death that is drowned in tears of new birth and hate that is smittened by love. Have you ever woken up wondering how did you get to be so lucky, but suddenly the phone rings and the deafening silence of somebodies life getting shattered puts you back into your place - place of nothing good or bad, just endless road of inbetweens. Some call this karma, some don't believe it exists but I think it is just balance that is here to sustain order in the universe. I used to take a religion class while in elementary school in Croatia, and number one question that never got the proper answer was : " Why do children die?" The teacher would bite her lip knowing she already lost the battle, but still she would serve us with " Children are the purest beings therefor sometimes they have a chance to join God sooner". That answer always bugged me the most. I found life to be the best thing that ever happened to me - even when I hated myself and wanted to die, in my teenage drama queen way, but in the end I would still tell myself - I am so lucky to be me.I wondered - why would anybody want to go to heaven when earth is so much more fun. One day, in the religion class, a girl asked the same question once again but to a new substitute. The substitute said only one word - balance. I didn't expect the ripple in the daily religious routine, but suddenly I was interested. What did she mean - balance? She reasoned : " Children sometimes die because world requires balance. Equal chance for good and evil. If life was only a one way street, then what would be the point of living? We live to die and that is the only thing that is certain with every human being - one promise we will all fulfill. I never paid attention in religion class, that was the last time I checked in. So is life just our try in the game of "making it great". Is it like a carneval game where you get 3 balls to knock the cans for a big stuffed prize, but instead we only get one ball? What if you get a GAME OVER, do you get another try? What is the balance within life, between love-money-family-friends. Do we win if we pick the correct path, or if we manage to keep it all together? How many times have you heard someone say " Oh man if I had as much success in love as I had in my workplace, oh where only could I be". But as soon as one area picks up - the other crashes. BALANCE. How long was the period in your life where you were COMPLETELY happy...maybe for 2 min....and then? Shit happens? No, balance happens. I think it really changes how you view life once you see that no matter how much bad stuff happens to you - some good is bound to follow - eventually... With a lot of changes in the air lately, beginnings and ends , I find myself thinking - maybe it is time to make some difference...maybe it is time to disturb the balance, and maybe then we can win the game and get our prize of "stuffed" immortality... But seriously, who would ever want that... |
