Maybe. At least in Iowa. And maybe in New Hampshire and nationally, too& well crunch some more numbers and get back to you.

Earlier this week, Dr. Philip Klinkner, a Professor of Political Science at Hamilton College, in his analysis of the county-level vote in Iowa, found that Huckabee did worse in counties with more Catholics. Individual-level data would be nice here, if only to avoid any problems with any ecological fallacies that can be encountered in quantitative methodology.

Fortunately, we have the New Hampshire exit polling data:

So, does Klinkner have a point? Yep. Huckabee did do worse domino s pizza Catholics than among other religious groups in New Hampshire. Huckabee did better among Protestants (12% of whom voted for him) and â€Sother Christian” (26%) than among Catholics (7%). Catholic support was evenly split between Romney and McCain (38-38%).

But& Klinkners analysis brings up a common problem that we discuss in both our Statistics for Political Science course and our Political Science Research Methodology course: Does correlation imply causation? Usually the answer is no. One can conclude that correlation might imply causation only when the data from which the correlation was computed were obtained by experimental means with appropriate care domino s pizza avoid threats to the internal validity of the experiment. domino s pizza research/opinion polling is quasi-experimental, not experimental attempts to uncover a causal relationship, knowing that you cant control for every single factor that might affect (confound) the

The jury is still out on a Huckabee â€SCatholic gap.” Is it big enough to be a problem? Probably not, simply because we believe that he just doesnt have long-term longevity in the GOP race anyway. At issue domino s pizza whether McCain, Giuliani, and/or Romney can appeal to Catholic voters in future Republican caucuses and primaries. For example, in Michigan, McCain might have the upper-hand among Catholic voters versus Romney, matter what Domino’s Pizza founder and Catholic philanthropist Tom Monaghan might say about it&
