Mr. Gurpal Singh was an early migrant who came to join his father Mr. Balvan Singh (who came to Britain in 1932) in 1949 at the age of fourteen. Went to school in Hull for six months and then came to settle in Manchester, to continue his family occupation of peddling Mr. Gurpal was born in Amritsar, North India, where his father owned some property. Mr. Gurpal's own working life has been of a varied nature. Although he started his working life as a peddler he did some years ago have his own coal business.
