GRAND BUFFET

Now, this was an experience. I know I'm always amazed by the Grand Buffet, but this time it was different. This time our bakeshop was in charge for all the desserts that had to be on the Buffet. Of course, we didn't make them all, we just had to bring them to our bakeshop and present them. And the ones we did, were great! We did the friut tartlets, chocolate dipped strawberries, ice creams, sorbets, mini eclairs, cream puffs....
After I was done with my dinner I switched with Stacey and took over the Ice-creams! It was so nice to serve people; since I came here I was always looking at students who were doing that and there I was..doing exactly that...amazing.
It made me so sad in a way to leave Pastry techniques and Chef Schorner. I wanted to stay with him forever! I became very close to him by doing some xtra work and having our little chats about Europe and its delights. He gave me as a present a 1kg block of best chocolate (he says in the world!), AMADEI, which is Italian (Tuscany). I didn't know what to say..70% cocoa solids..mmmm
I aslo stayed the other night and helped Chef make the dessert for the school president, Tim Ryan, so that was a great thing for me as well. I was very excited about taht. I attached a pic of the dessert we did. And I made the sugar bow!! :))
I'm enjoying my 4 day weekend and it's like our spring break. Oh..yesterday...was above 30 degrees! Stacey and I met with my friend Chikara, who's a photographer, and we did an amazing photoshoot!! You'll see the pics, they're stunning.
In an hour I'm meeting with my friend Kendra who helped me along, before I even applied to the CIA. She is amazing and I'm so happy to go our with her; I suggested to go to Rhinebeck, a little town in this area. I've never been there so it should be interesting. Later tonight I think I'll meet up with my new roomie! She's here with her mum, but she can't move in before Monday, but she invited me to have dinner or lunch with them. How nice is that! I can't wait to meet them! I bought her a little pack of Lindor Truffels yesterday as a welcome :))
Ok, gotta get ready now...and I forgot to say that on Thursday night Stacey and I HAD to go to the grocerie store and noone could take us! And then at like 11pm we started talking to our Friend James, who just came back from the cinema, and he said he'll take us! And so we went to Hanaford (the best store!) which is opened 24/7, and were alone in the store for like an hour and a half. We came back from shopping at like 1 30 am! That was crazy, I never did that before! He he.

Grand Buffet, koja ludnica. Iako se uvijek iznova oduševljavam Grand Buffetom, ovaj put je bilo posebno. Ovaj put smo mi bili zaslužni za sve deserte! Naravno, nismo mi napravili sve, već smo ih morali donijet u naš bakeshop i prezentirat ih na Buffetu. I moram reć da one koje smo napravili su ispali fantastično! Imali smo voćne košarice, male eklere i nešto kao naše princes krafne, jagode umočene u čokoladu u obliku odijela, sladoled, sorbete....vidi se sve na slikama. Nakon što sam večerala, zamijenila sam se sa prethodnom grupom i napokon dobila priliku bit na sladoled postaji! :))
whohooo!! To je bilo super. Uvijek sam gledala i divila se studentima koji su to radili i onda..nakon 6 mjeseci...evo mene, stojim tu.
Bilo mi je baš žao izić iz Bakeshopa 1 i napustit Chefa Schornera. Ma naravno da će on uvijek bit tamo, stalno ćemo se mi viđat, ali bila bi ja još ostala 3 tjedna na njegovoj nastavi! Ali nas dvoje smo se baš zbližili; često sam ostajala pričat s njim poslije nastave i sudjelovala u extra projektima. Neki dan sam mu pomogla dovršit desert za predsjednika škole, Tima Ryana. Wow, to je bio osjećaj. stavila sam sliku, vidit će te...Ja sam savila šećernu mašnu!! :)) E da, dao mi je prošli tjedan 1kg komad najbolje Talijanske čokolade (AMADEI, 70%). To je bilo..wow..
I eto, započeo je mi je 4-dnevni vikend, što me veseli. U četvrtak navečer je Stacey i mene odveo naš prijatelj James u dućan jer stvarno nismo imale ništa u sobi! I zamisli...išli smi u ovaj fantastičan dućan Hanaford koji je otvoren 24/7. Krenuli smo oko 11 ipo i vratili se u 1 ipo (ujutro!). Bilo je super, nikoga u dućanu! Nisam to zaista nikad doživila.
Jučer smo nas dvije imale lunch; ja sam kuhala blitvu i samo malo popržila piletinu na tavi. mmmmmmmm Stacey obožava kad ja kuham što me veseli. Rekla je da bi blitvu svaki dan!Kasnije smo se, iako je bilo preko 30 stupnjeva, našli s ovim mojim prijateljem Chikarom koji je fotograf i opalili dosta slika! Super su!!! Večeras ću otić do njega da mi ih prebaci na usb stick. Poslije smo otišle do shopping centra kupit par sitnica i onda završile dan gledajući ''My big fat greek wedding''. Super je film, baš sam se nasmijala.
Evo me sad sjedim na krevetu i žurim jer se moram nać s mojom prijom Kendrom i onda kasnije vjerojatno s mojom novom cimericom Anom i njenom mamom!
Čujemo se!!

Some of my work

Here's some of my work that I did during the last couple of days. Today I had a pretty exciting day; I got up at 6 and I had to go to bakeshop 5 to work. I was helping out my Chef because he had a Saturday class - he was actually replacing another Chef (Chef Dubenard) who went on a trip. That was a ''Baking at home'' course, so hosewives were mostly there and two guys ;) It was fun, I really felt experienced, you know, when people ask you how to do this or that...ANd tomorrow I'm doing the AIDS walk in the City. There are going to be lots of people even though I don't think we'll have nice weather..oh well..

Ok, gotta go to bed now, I have to get up bright early! You'll get the reviews ;)


Eto ti na, već 23:10. Na nogama sam od 6 ipo jutros. Radila sam od 7 pa do 15 sa mojim Chefom i još jednom učenicom. To je bio kurs za domaćice u biti, tako da je za mene kao profesionalca u razvoju to bilo sasvim jednostavno :)) Super osjećaj kad te pitaju za savjet...Uglavnom, da skratim jer je kasno...Sutra ujutro u 6:45 krećemo busom za NYC, Stacey i ja te još dosta nama poznatih ljudi, na ''AIDS Walk''. Pogledajte malo online, vidit ćete da je to velik događaj, mislim da će bit interesantno; 2-3 sata hodanja, ništa strašno. Jedva čekam! :))

Domaći rad / Homework

I just wanted to share with you my piping homework! I think I did pretty well on this one and it's just fun to have homework like this, not math questions..he he.

Evo samo da vidite što imam svakodnevno za domaći rad. Joj, ovo je sto puta bolje nego zadaci iz matematike ili ''bubanje'' napamet :)) Ne kažem da je lako; ispočetka je poprilično zeznuto. Kad sam telk počela, nisam mogla naparavit neke najjednostavnije poteze. Vježbom do savršenstva! ;)

I love Pastry Techniques

I really love it. I know I keep saying that each time, but I absolutely enjoy it! This is a pic of my first cake. The basket was made out of marcipan and then it was slightly coloured with a torch. Just to let you know, the cake doesn't taste as nice, but it looks good :)) It's just spnoge cake soaked in black currant syrup and then filled with buttercream which is Italian Meringue and butter.
I have to announce that I passed my writing examination. Uh. I was pretty nervous, cause some of people from my class failed...We basically had to write an essay based on two topics we could choose. It seems easy, but it's easy to make a mistake wether in grammar, organization, etc.
And the weather was beautiful and extremly warm till this afternoon when it started raining. I had to come back to my room and I was comepletly wet! And 5 mins later it stopped, of course.
Ok, now I have to go back to class! We did some amazing mousse cakes!! I'm making those when I come home, 4 sure! ;)


Evo moja prva torta. Moram priznat da sam zaista ponosna, jer sam je dobro naparavila. Košarica je od marcipana, ali se malo pređe plamenikom pa onda dobije smeđkastu nijansu. Što se tiče okusa, nije nešto. Napravljena je od običnog biskvita natopljenog šećernim sirupom i pireom od crnog ribizla i onda filovano ''buttercream''-om. To je talijanska meringa sa maslom s malo arome vanilije. Tako da nema tu nešto specijalno. Zato smo danas naparavili fantastične mousee torte. Jedan dio razreda je radio sa vanilijom , a drugi s čokoladom. Vidit ćete slike, izgleda fantastično! Sad sam jela sveži sladoled od jagode/vanilije, mmmm. Prava stvar.
I da, prije nego što odem, moram se pohvalit da sam prošla writing examination. Uh, koje olakšanje. Ima ih iz mog razreda koji nisu prošli. Trebali smo napisat esej, i imali smo 2 teme za birat. Iako zvuči jednostavno, ipak moraš pazit na dosta sitnica...Glavno da sam ja prošla, 83 boda! :)) Kad već pričamo o prolaženju, moja prija Darija je u velikom iščekivanju...Pisala je prijemni i sada čeka rezultate. Nije baš jednostavno pisat prijemni na jeziku (Češkom) nakon niti godine dana učenja jezika, ali može ona to. Držimo joj fige! Ako mi uspije moj externship u Beču, napokon ćemo se vidjet, a i ja bi opet mogla pričat njemački i bit okružena ljudima koji ne podriguju. Znam da zvuči grozno, ali njima je to ovdje normalno. Fuj.

Driving....at last!!

Yes, today it was the day. Brittany and I had a lovely day today; we went to the Mall, a really nice grocerie store - Adams, rented out some movies, had a awesome lunch at Coyote Grill and then she aked me, ''are you ready?''. I was. I guess I was.
Just remember the first day you sat in the car and took the wheel in your hands. Wow, what a feeling. I have to say, I did pretty good :)) We were at the parking lot, and I drove around a bit. I'm so happy!!! Thank God the car is automatic.
We took lots of pics, so I'll post them eventually...

Da, napokon je došao i taj dan. Osim fantastičnog dana provedenog u jutarnjom trčanju oko kampusa, zatim odlaskom s Brittany u shopping, odličnog ručka u Coyote Grillu, gledanju filma, Tea je napokon sjela za volan. Da, da. Na parkiralištu smo stali, i Brittany me pitala ''jesi spremna?''. Iako me nervoza hvatala, jesam, bila sam spremna! Wow, koji je to bio osjećaj. Veliki je to događaj i doživljaj bio za mene! Sva sreća da je automatic, inače bi sigurno imala poteškoća, jer je ovako sve prošlo bez problema :)) Tako sam sretna, sada ćemo na parkiralište kad god stignemo!
Imam dosta novih slika, objavit ću ih, samo moram vidit koje...
I da, napravila sam Tiramisu, i to kakav. Eno ga u frižideru, ladi se ladi! :)) Maloprije smo Brittany i ja samo zagrabile malo iz kuta, he he...To me podsjetilo na mamu, ona uvijek to radi :)

Creme Brulee!

Well, here's me making the Creme Brulee, finally! It was fun! I like the torch :))
And then there's Pot de Creme (like a chocolate pudding) and the other two photos is Chef making the pulled sugar bow. AMAZING, absolutely stunning. By the way, it was so hot today, almost 30 degrees and our bakeshop was the only one that felt like a sauna. I don't really know why, but we should be getting air condition like in other bakeshops...

Da, da, napokon sam napravila slavnu Creme Brulee!! Ispala je bez greške. Onda je tu i Pot de Creme, po okusu je kao čokoladni puding, ali puno bogatiji što se tiče sastojaka i samog okusa. MMM.
I to je moj Chef, koji nam uvijek pokaže nešto novo, vučeni šećer i jednu od bezbroj mogućnosti s njim. Zaista me oduševilo kako se može od običnog šećera napravit tako što. vidit ćete u skoroj budućnosti što ćemo sve radit.
Inače, danas je bilo poprilično toplo. Pravi ljetno dan, skoro 30. U našem bakeshopu je bilo iznimno toplo, ne znam kako, jer je svugdje drugdje radila klima..hm..

Yep! My first roses! What do you think?
It's sooo much fun, that's all I can say. Chef is amazing, I enjoy coming to class every single day :))


Satovi su nam fantastični. Chef je toliki izvor informacija da jedva uspijem sve zapisat na papir! Evo pogled na moje prve ruže s kojima nisam imala većih problema ;)
Šte se vama čini? Ja sam zadovoljna :)

New Start

Yes, it's a start of a new block! - Pastry Techniques - Chef Schorner is amazing. He's the person that brought Creme brulee to the US and he knows so much. He even worked for the White house! I'm so honored to have him as a instructor. Just check out his brief biography:

And I also attached some photos from the Baking techniques, so you can see how the classroom looked like. Nothing new about my externship yet. I'm focusing mostly on Vienna now - I'm gonna wait a little bit longer for people there to contact me, if not, I'm phoning.

This weekend was nice; On Saturday I finally worked again!! Actually Stacey and I did. It was nice to be a part of the team again! And I went to Barnes and Noble which is like a big bookstore (it's all around the US) and I bought one book. Cookbook, of course from Nigella Lawson - How to be a domestic goddess. Amazing book! My suggestion. I always wanted something from her and this one is baking only :)
Sunday we went to the Woodbury Outlet! It's, you know, like a small shopping city in the middle of nowhere, but great prices. I bought couple a things, but I still didn't get a dress for the Swan Lake evening. Oh well, I still have plenty of time.

And weather...it's beautiful!!! They grew flowers everywhere and almost all the trees are green! Ahh, how nice. And it's pretty warm too.
I gotta go to bed now..it's getting late...

Dok si rekao keks završio je još jedan blok! Sada sam u Pastry Techniques. Chef mi je Dieter Schorner i evo možete pogledat njegovu biografiju: http://www.ciachef.edu/admissions/spotlight/spotlight.asp?iSpotID=341. Slika mu je iz mlađih dana, jer je poprilično star čokac, ali nema što ne zna. Još uvijek vozi punom parom! Tako sam sretna što ga imam za instruktora; neki mogu samo sanjat o tome. On je prvi upoznao Ameriku sa Creme Brulee, i među ostalom, radio je i u Bijeloj kući. Toliko ćemo naučit u ovom bloku, baš sam sretna.
Još ne znam ništa za externship...Sada mi je Beč broj jedan(www.demel.at) . Trebali bi mi se javit, ako ne, moram nazvat, jer će se otegnut.
U subotu smo Stacey i ja napokon počele radit!! Super je osjećaj bit ponovo dio tima :)) A u nedjelju smo Stacey, Brittany i ova njena prija Emily (koja je kasnila pola sata, bila sam ljuta ko pas) išli u obližnji outlet. To je zapravo, mali shopping gradić ako ga tako mogu nazvat, i Outleti su zapravo svugdje po svijetu. Većinom su tu dućani s ''imenom'', ali po puno povoljnijim cijenama. Nisam kupila puno, onako par stvarčica. Planirala sam kupit haljinu za kazalište kad Brittany i ja budemo išle gledat Labuđe Jezero. Uh, što se veselim tome.
A u subotu sam napokon kupila knjigu Nigelle Lawson - How to be a Domestic Goddess. Fantastčna kniga, tj. kuharica i uglavnom su slastice :)) Baš sam zadovoljna, i svima je preporučam.

A vrijeme nam je prekrasno. Toplo, sve miriše na tek posađeno cvijeće, stabla se zelene, toplo je, i što je najbolje, još uvijek je dan kad iziđemo iz bakeshopa! Ljeto nam se vratilo uououo....
Evo, već mi je kasno, moram u krpe..I zamisli, 3 večeri nisam mogla spavat jer su ljudi vani u hodniku bili glasni i morala sam izić vani i reć im da umuknu, a večeras, kad ne idem na vrijeme spavat, takva je tišina da je to za nevjerovat. Eh...idem onda...zzz...zz.....z...zz.......

Ludilo

Iako iznenenadno, ali ne i nepromišeljeno, Stacey i ja smo provele nedjelju u NYC. Ja sam zapravo želila otić u Cafe Sabarsky i Bouley bakery kako bi obišla potencijalna mjesta za externship. Cafe Sabarsky je oličenje elegancije i upravo ono gdje se vidim. To je zapravo dio Njemačko-Austrijske galerije i skroz je uređeno u Austrijskom stilu, od interijera, glazbe do deserata. Stacey i ja smo probale Sacher tortu i Apfelstrudel, uz pratnju vruće čokolade i crnog čaja. Samo da znate da smo bili u velikom iščekivanju, jer smo čekali u redu za sjest. Nismo se razočarali, bilo nam je iznad očekivanja.
Ostatak dana smo provele šetajući gradom, dosta smo se zadržale u Whole Foods Store-u. Taj dućan je naprosto raj na Zemlji za nas, ma općenito za bilo koga tko voli hranu. Većina namirnica su organic i nema što nema. Sve je maksimalno organizirno, prostrano, pregledno i prodavači su ljubazni, ne mrzovoljni kao kod nas. Našla sam čak našu Janu! A koliko je tek sira bilo..uh
U svakom slučaju, Whole Foods na 95 Houston St. (Downtown) morate pogledat ako ikad dođete u NYC.

Jučer nam je bio Career Fair i dogovorila sam intervju sa jednim resortom - Sea Island. Mjesto izgleda fantastično i nalazi se na jugu, u Georgiji. Intervju mi je zapola sata pa ćemo vidit...Nas 4 iz razreda ima s njma intervju! He, he.. U međuvremenu sam poslala moj resume i cover letter na jedno fantastično mjestu u Beču (www.demel.at), tako da bi to trebali dobit ovaj tjedan. Još sam poslala e-mail glavnom chefu koji vodi Cafe Sabarsky i još dva restorana, pa sam u iščekivanju i što se tiče toga.
Ovo u Austriji bi mi bilo najdraže, moram priznat.

Vjerovali ili ne, imam još 2 dana, i gotov blok. Gotovo sa Baking Techniques! :( Ne mogu vjerovat. Stvarno mi je super na nastavi, a Chef Welker je the best.
