It can also be plugged onto the spark plug and wire too if you desire. No faulty pick up from other wires this way. Try placing your inductive pick up in different places along the wire. If you can actually see a 2 deg. Resistance doesn't timing down electricity it reduces it. Electricity will travel one mile in. It can also pickup from the other wires. I never thought of that. I'm off to go re-check my timing light.

The best answer I can give you is that it depends. I'm pretty sure I clamped the spark plug lead and grounded the other end, but I do remember how weak the light was and weak red, not white. Adjustable anilog total timing model or the basic non adjustable one. In that case you need to check for fuel pressure. There should be an indicator on the clip informing you which side faces the plug. Gone are the 5-10 degrees of tick marks on a timing cover. When in doubt, total timing should be somewhere between 34 and 36 degrees. Make sure you put the inductive pickup at the spark plug and not at the distributor. What do you do?
