Many years ago, while working as a volunteer at a hospital, I met a girl named Liza, who was suffering from a rare disease.
It turned out that the only way for her to recover was to transfuse her blood of her five-year-old brother, who in some inexplicable way managed to survive the same disease, so that antibodies were created in his body that could overcome this vicious disease.
The doctor explained to her little brother what the situation was and asked him if he wanted to donate blood for his sister. After just one moment, the boy sighed deeply and said:
- Okay, I'm ready if that saves Lisa.
As they performed the transfusion, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled. The others smiled as they watched the color return to the girl's cheeks.
Then his face turned pale and the smile disappeared from him. He looked at the doctor and asked in a trembling voice:
- And will I start dying right away?
Since he was little, the boy misunderstood the doctor, he thought he would give his sister all his blood…
That’s when I learned what courage is.
