Shade gardens are gardens planted and grown in areas with little or no direct sunlight during the day, either under trees or on the shady sides of buildings. Shade gardening presents certain challenges, in part because only certain plants are able to grow in shady conditions.

2008-08-30 green glow
One of my favorite elements of this zone of the garden is the fresh green glow when plants are backlit. Lower RHS: dicentra spectabilis alba, white bleeding heart. Yep. Stayed healthy in that location all through the summer and into early autumn. Guess it just needs shade and to be protected against extremely dry soil.
Foreground: the white "shooting star" effect of Nicotiana Sylvestris alba (flowering tobacco), native to zone 10 or 11 Argentina. Fabulous annual here, in zone 4b. Deliciously fragrant.
