Ancient Roman Glass....

An authentic iridescent ocean blue Roman glass chip, (from the Roman Period, approx 2000 years old) is wrapped in fired copper.

Combined with natural aquamarine and blue flashing labradorate, sterling silver beads and a swirling sterling silver toggle clasp.

The measures of the glass chip are:
1-7/8inch x 1-1/8inch (47mm x 30mm)

The necklace is 42cm (16-1/4inch)

I used 0.4mm solid copper sheet to wrap the Roman glass. The beautiful patina is achieved by fire. No chemicals were used. I burnished the copper to a nice shine. The copper is left untreated, and will continue to develop it's own warm patina trough aging.

Built in the old classical style in 1721 by Maharaja Malhar Rao, the Nazar Bagh Palace is a three storey building with arcaded verandahs. It was used on ceremonial occasions by the ruling Gaekwads. The palace houses the heirlooms of the royal family including a solid gold and solid silver gun, the former weighs over 127kg (180lbs) and is drawn by a team of white bullocks on ceremonial occasions.
