We got some garlic scapes in our CSA (community-supported agriculture) package last week. The internet told us that they're the green shoots of a young garlic plant; you can only get them in season (June), which is why you probably haven't seen them in your local run-of-the-mill supermarket.

It was time to trim the scapes off my 123 garlic plants. I just love how they curl!

I cook them and add them to any dish that would enjoy garlic but this year I discovered that you could make GARLIC SCAPE PESTO! I've made basil and even parsley pesto but I'm excited to try scapes.
