Emerald Necklace Bike Path
The Emerald Necklace consists of an chain of parks linked by parkways and waterways in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts.
Large natural and semi-natural patches (emeralds) connected by green corridors (necklaces). The connections are for the movement of people, wildlife and water.
A path or road for bicycles and not motor vehicles
Completed in 1995, formerly an old railroad route between Elyria and Kipton, Ohio, that is popular with Oberlin’s cyclists, joggers, and dog walkers. Stretches 3.2 miles and was incorporated into the Lorain County Metro Park System as part of the North Coast Inland Trail bike path.
Segregated cycle facilities are roads, tracks, paths or marked lanes designated for use by cyclists from which motorised traffic is generally excluded.
A path segregated from motorized traffic for the use of bikes, sometimes shared with pedestrians.
Emerald Necklace Signage – Jamaica Pond
I think the Emerald Necklace signage is a missed opportunity. The signs satisfy the "historical" context, but lack information and are uninviting. The physical shapes of the signs are nice and combining that with some wayfinding graphics could preserve the historical feel, while adding greater functionality and readability. Note the multiple type treatments without real hierarchy – all caps, small caps, oldstyle, and italics. View large size to read it all...
The Emerald Necklace in Non-Emerald Colors
A string of streams, ponds, wooded areas, and greenery, lined with a bike path that I use to ride to campus. Turns absolutely gorgeous twice a year; during spring/early summer, and autumn. Caught a bit of that here with the almighty Velvia 50.
