Kad farizeji doznaše da je ušutkao saduceje, okupiše se te ga jedan od njih, učitelj Zakona, upita s nakanom da ga kuša: 'Učitelju, koja je najveća zapovijed u Zakonu?' On mu odgovori :'Ljubi Gospodina Boga svoga svim srcem svojim, svom dušom svojom i svom pameti svojom! To je najveća i prva zapovijed. DRUGA JE TOJ JEDNAKA;'Ljubi bližnjega svoga kao samog sebe!' O tim dvjema zapovijedima ovisi sav Zakon i Proroci.'

One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
