I had a Takamine classical guitar a few years usps holiday hours and it was one of the worst sounding classical guitars I've ever owned.
The tone was just dull.

Takamines aren't anywhere near the best quality, but for the price they're not badplus, their more expensive models are quite nice

I've never seen one that played poorly.
I've never been partial to their tone though.

Ah, I see you have not experienced the split-wood feature on the Tak EG-230 that my daughter owns.Thankfully hers is ok.
Several others at the store where we bought hers were not as the backs were all seperating themselves from the sides in several places.

The taks are good guitars.
I never tried one when i was looking....
I ended up with a yamaha LL16.
Now that is a very nice guitar for the money.
All solid, rosewood back and sides, scalloped bracing, ebony board, bound neck solid spruce top.
3 ply neck. sounds awesome christmas at belmont plays easily.
If the taks are as good, then i would say go for them....

Mine's fairly bright as well (maple sides and back) but I still love it.
