Dimmu Borgir (pronounced "Di-moo bore-gear") is a symphonic black metal band from Norway. "Dimmu Borgir" means "Dark Castles" or "Dark Fortresses" in Icelandic. The name itself is derived from volcanic formations found on Iceland: "The Dimmuborgir."
Dimmu Borgir was originally founded as a black metal band in1993 by Shagrath, Silenoz, and Tjodalv. The band released an EP entitled Inn I Evighetens Mřrke (1994) translated to English the title means "Into The Darkness of Eternity." This short EP sold out within weeks, and the band followed up with the full length album For All Tid (1994). This album featured musical contributions by members of Dřdheimsgard and Ved Buens Ende. Interestingly enough, Shagrath played drums with Tjodalv on guitar and Erkekjetter (translating "arch heretic") Silenoz covering vocals. This lineup changed before the release of Stormblĺst (translates to "Storm Blown") on Cacophonous Records in 1996. Stormblĺst received high praise from many melodic black metal fans, and is often regarded as a highlight of the band's career. It is also the last album which features all lyrics written and sung in Norwegian.
After Stormblĺst, Dimmu Borgir's career took a sharp turn. Keyboardist Stian Aarstad left the band due to his obligation to serve in the Norwegian army, thus he was not able to participate in the recording of Devil's Path (1996). That period was also marked by the leave of their bassist Brynjard Tristan and the arrival of Nagash. Stian Aarstad returned for the recording of Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (1997). On the tour to support the album he had trouble attending rehearsals and tour dates, and he was fired from the band. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was a huge success for the band, and it was their first release signed to the famous German record label Nuclear Blast. It was recorded in the Abyss Studios, owned by Hypocrisy's mainman Peter Tägtgren.
After the tour for Enthrone Darkness Triumphant the band recruited new members Mustis on keyboards and Astennu on second guitar so that Shagrath could concentrate on vocals.
Dimmu Borgir's following full-length albums Spiritual Black Dimensions, the first album with clean vocals from vortex, and the last album with Nagash (bass), (1999) and Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001) both met critical acclaim. Some fans accused the band of "selling out" due to the mass audiences which the albums reached.
Despite regular video play on MTV2 and Fuse TV that their follow-up album would receive, the band has stated that they are not "commercially-oriented," and instead, they simply wish to spread their message to more people. In 2003, Dimmu Borgir used their major record label financial leverage to create a monumental album titled Death Cult Armageddon. Sections of the album were recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra to enhance the classical arrangements which have always augmented the band's style.
In 2005, the band did a complete re-recording of the Stormblĺst album, featuring Hellhammer of Mayhem fame as the session drummer.
Silenoz has revealed on the Dimmu Borgir website that their new album, In Sorte Diaboli, is mixed and ready for mastering. According to a recent myspace bulletin posted by the official Dimmu Borgir myspace crew, the album will be released April 24, 2007. There will also be a special edition version of the album in a boxed case with dvd, with backwards lyrics and a mirror included. The album artwork was released on February 14, 2007 on a promotional webpage for the album.
Dimmu Borgir will be playing the 2007 Download Festival on June 8.

Blind Guardian je power metal bend osnovan 1985. u Krefeldu, Njemačka. U razdoblju od 1986.-1987. izdaju dva demo albuma pod imenom Lucifer's Heritage. Od osnivanja njihovi tekstovi bili su inspirirani imaginarnim svijetom J. R. R. Tolkiena i drugih autora fantastične proze, te legendama i mitovima.
Na njihovom debitantskom albumu Battalions Of Fear i drugom Follow The Blind, na kojem je prvi put gostovao Kai Hansen, prevladava utjecaj speed metala, mnogo više nego na Blind Guardianovim budućim albumima. Već na sljedećem uratku Tales From The Twilight World, Blind Guardian poprima moderniji zvuk, te češće koristi zborove uz pomoć orkestra. Time je Blind Guardian stvorio svoj danas prepoznatljiv epičan stil. Sljedećih godina izdaju još dva albuma, Somewhere Far Beyond i svoje prvo live izdanje Tokyo Tales. Bend dostiže svoj vrhunac albumima Imaginations From The Other Side i Nightfall In Middle-Earth, koji je baziran na knjizi Silmarillion, autora J. R. R. Tolkiena. Uslijedila je stanka tijekom koji Hansi Kürsch surađuje s osnivačem Iced Eartha Jonom Schafferom, što rezultira izdavanjem albuma novog benda nazvanog Demons & Wizards. Popularnost Blind Guardiana je rasla i 2002. bend pušta u prodaju A Night at the Opera, na kojem dolazi do malene promjene stila te se osjeća utjecaj progresivnog power metala.
2005. bend nakon dvadeset godina napušta bubnjar Thomen Stauch i osniva Savage Circus. Zamijenio ga Frederik Ehmke. Novi studijski album A Twist In The Myth, izašao je u rujnu 2006. godine.

Satyricon (pronounced: suh-Teer-I-con) is a Norwegian black metal band. The band credits their first album, Dark Medieval Times, with starting a black metal sub-genre dubbed "medieval metal." The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with the raw black metal with blastbeats produced by Frost mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On the next album The Shadowthrone this medieval spirit was preserved.
Regarding one of their latest albums, Volcano, the frontman of the band, Satyr, stated in a press release/biography, published on their homepage, that "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy." It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".
They have many famous fans: Phil Anselmo, James Hetfield, Joey Jordison, Bjřrn Einar Romřren, and many more.
They have toured with Pantera, among others.
Most recently, the band released a new studio album, Now, Diabolical. The album is generating a great degree of controversy in the black-metal underground, due to its straightforward, "radio-friendly" take on the genre. The album is selling extraordinarily well, however, even outside of black-metal circles.

DEATH IS ALL AROUND US..............
IN FLAMESje švedski melodic death metal bend osnovan 1990. godine u Gothenburgu. Najpoznatiji je po albumima The Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony i Clayman.
Bila je 1990. godina kada je Jesper Strömblad odlučo napustiti bend Ceremonial Oath u kojem je do tada svirao zajedno s Andersom Fridenomi IAndersom Iwersom. Htio je napraviti glazbu drugačijeg usmjerenja, stoga se odlučio udružiti sa Johanom Larssonom i Glennom Ljingstromom i oformio In Flames.
Bend je napravio demo snimku i poslao ga izdavačkoj kući Wrong Again Records u nadi da će sklopiti ugovor o suradnji što su i postigli. Sljedećeg dana prionuli su na snimanje albuma Lunar Strain koji je i izdat, te je postigao ogroman underground uspijeh. In Flames je imao i neke privremene članove koje su posudili iz različitih bendova kao što su Dark Tranquillity, Tiamat, Dawn, Eucharist, Arch Enemy i jos neki bendovi. Iste godine nakon izdavanja albuma Lunar Strain izdali su i mini cd Subterranean koji je bio odskočna daska za In Flames i koji im je omogućio da se otisnu sa underground scene i sklope ugovor sa velikim njemačkim izdavačem Nuclear Blastom za sljedeći album i od tada su pod pokroviteljstvom te kuće. Poslije nekog vremena, momci su se umorili od konstantnog posuđivanja članova drugih bendova pa su predložili Andersu Fridenu i Björnu Gelotteu da se pridruže bendu na vokalnim dionicama odnosno za bubnjevima i oni su pristali. In Flames se tada prvi put okupio sa stalnom postavom. 1995. snimaju i izdaju svoj sledeći album The Jester Race koji je širom svijeta postigao ogroman uspijeh i In Flamesi su počeli privlačiti veliku pažnju širom Europe i Japanu. Uslijedila je koncertna turneja na koju su otišli sa bendovima Samael, Grip inc. i Kreator. Ovo je bila prva velika stvar koja im se dogodila, ali nikako ne i posljednja. Neke svirke sledeće godine natjerale su Johana i Glena da se odluče koji bendovi su njihovi prioriteti, te su odabrali odlazak iz In Flamesa. Odluku da napuštaju bend su neočekivano su donjeli poslije snimanja albuma Whoracle, tako da su Bjern, Dzeper i Anders ostali sa završenim albumom i polovicom benda. Na njihovi sreću uskočili su njihovi dobri prijatelji Peter Iwers i Niklas Engelin koji su popunili praznine na basu i gitari na kraju snimanja albuma i na mini turneji sa grupom Dimmu Borgir. Suradnja se pokazala vrlo dobrom tako da je obojici ponuđen ostanak u bendu, što su i prihvatiti.
Grupa je nastavila sa uspijesnom turnejom po Europi i fantastičim tjednom u Japanu gdje su održali dva koncerta.
Japanci su bili oduševljeni švedskim bendom tako da je In Flames pridobio ogromno iskustvo. Po povratku u Švedsku Niklas napušta bend zbog nesuglasica u mišljenjima i zbog toga što se želio posvetiti svom drugom bendu Gardenian. Najveća prekretnica za In Flames bila je odluka da bubnjara Bjerna postave na poziciju gitarista, budući da i počeo karijeru kao gitarist, i postave Daniel Svenson,Daniela Svensona za bubnjara. Rezultat je bio najvjerojatan i rodio se album Colony, koji je postigao najveći uspjeh do sada. Tokom dva mjeseca na svakom koncertu odaziv publike bi bio fantastičan. U kolovozu 2000., poslije višemjesečne uspješne turneje i tri mjeseca rada u studiju, zaživio je album Clayman. Album je dobio odlične kritike i svojom prodajom vec za nekoliko mjeseci prošao ukupnu prodaju svog prethodnika. Poslije koncerata na kojima su svirali sa grupama Dream Theater, Slipknot, Testament, Methods of Mayhem i drugima, očekivala ih je svjetska turneja. Pored dvije američke turneje, dogodio se i ponovni odlazak u Japan, gdje je Jesper dobio nagradu časopisa BURNN! za tekstopisca godine.
Koncerti su opet bili veoma uspješni, što je rezultiralo snimanjem albuma The Tokyo Showdown sa njihovih live nastupa u zemlji izlazeceg sunca. 2000. godine izveli su ukupno 150 koncerata što dovoljno govori o njihovoj globalnoj popularnosti. Album Reroute to Remain izlazi 2002. godine i to je bio prvi album koji nije sniman u Studiu Fredman. 2004. u prodaju je pušten sedmi album Soundtrack To Your Escape. 2005. izdaju dvostruko DVD izdanje Used and Abused... In Live We Trust. U to vrijeme In Flames još nastupa na Ozzfestu, te kao podrška bendu Motörhead. To tada u svijetu je prodano više od milijun snimaka, te bend izdaje album Come Clarity i to im je najuspješniji album do sada.

Wintersun je osnovao bivši frontman grupe Ensiferum Jari Mäenpää, finski viking/melodic death metal band, u kojem se također prepoznaje utjecaj folk i power metala. Snimanje njihovog prvog albuma bilo je zakazano u isto vrijeme kada i turneja Ensiferuma, tako da je Jari Mäenpää bio primoran birati između dvije grupe, te je izabaro Wintersun i napustio Ensiferum. Bend iz Helsinkija prvi album nazvan jednostavno Wintersun, pod okriljem Nuclear Blast Recordsa izdao je 13. rujna 2004. godine. Tematika njihovih tekstova uglavnom je život, zima, emocije, halucinacije i snovi. Wintersunov novi studijski album Time počeo se snimati u svibnju 2006. Točan datum izlaska albuma nije poznat.
Alexi „Wildchild“ Laiho (rođen Aleksi Laiho) je glavni gitarista bendova Children of Bodom, Sinergy i Kylähullut, te bivši gitarista bendova Thy Serpent i Impaled Nazarene. Premda je svirao i pjevao u mnogim bendovima najveću slavu je ipak stekao u finskom bendu Children of Bodom.Alexi Laiho je rođen 8. aprila 1979. godine u gradu Espoo (nedaleko od glavnog grada Helsinkija) u Finskoj. Njegov prvi muzički instrument je bila violina koju je počeo svirati sa 5 godina sve do 11-te godine kad ga je heavy metal muzika koju je slušala njegova sestra nagnala na to da prestane svirati violinu i počne svirati ono u čemu se pokazalo da ima najviše talenta - gitaru. Možda najveći poticaj da počne svirati gitaru je bila pjesma Stevea Vaia „For the Love of God“ (sa albuma Passion and Warfare). Počeo je uzimati časove sviranja gitare na Finskom Pop & Jazz Konzervatoriju gdje je također svirao i klavir. Na njegov stil je najviše utjecao Roope Latvala iz Stonea (poslije je došao u Sinergy sa Alexiem a nedugo zatim i u Children of Bodom). Phil Anselmo (iz Pentere) te Mille Petroza (iz Kreatora) su imali najveći uticaj na njegove vokalne sposobnosti.
Prvi bend u kojem je svirao nakon pokusnog benda T.O.L.K. je bio black/neo-classical metal bend Inearthed (poslije je preimenovan u Children of Bodom) u kojem su bili bubnjar Jaska Raatikainen te basista Samuli Miettinen. Sa 16 godina, Alexi je prekinuo školu kako bi se u potpunosti mogao posvetiti bendu CoB. 1997 godine je na neko vrijeme svirao u bendu Thy Serpent ali nije dočekao izdavanje albuma. Izdavanjem prvog albuma Something Wild bend je svirao u Rusiji sa drugim black metal bendom Impaled Nazarene. Nedugo nakon koncerta bend ga je pozvao da im se priključi kao vodeći gitarista. Alexi se priključio te ostao u bendu sve do 2001. godine.
Godinu dana nakon izdavanja albuma Something Wild, sa 19 godina, Alexi je doživio nervni slom. Čak se probao ubiti popivši 30 tableta za spavanje koje je zalio viskijem. Brzo je pao u nesvijest. Ubrzo ga je jedan prijatelj našao i odvezao u bolnicu. Nakon oporavka Alexi je muziku stavio u prvi plan te se u potpunosti posvetio usavršavanju svog stila. Već u novijim albumima se mogla uočiti bitna promjena i savršenstvo.1999. godine Kimberly Goss ga je pozvala u bend Sinergy kao glavnog gitaristu. 2001. godine u bend je došao Roope Latvala pa je započela „borba“ između „učitelja i učenika“ u nekoliko solo pjesama. Tijekom 2001. i 2002. godine gostovao je singlu benda To/Die/For („In the Heat of the Night“) te u par pjesama benda Norther.
U septembru 2002. godine nepoznati lopov je ukrao sve Alexieve Jackson gitare. Alexi je u to vrijeme spavao sa prijateljima nakon velike zabave održane povodom uspješnog koncerta. Alexiu su hitno trebale nove gitare no kompanija Jackson je tada već bila rasprodala svu svoju robu. Alexi je prihvatio ponudu kompanije ESP Guitars koja je mogla isporučiti gitare za kratko vrijeme za razliku od Jacksona koji su mogli tek za godinu dana. 2004. godine Alexi se priključio punk rock bendu Kylähullut (na finskom 'seoski idioti') zajedno sa Tommijem Lillmanom (Sinergy) te Vesom Jokinen (Klamydia). Bend je stvoren samo za zabavu muzičara i ima bezbrižan pristup njihovoj muzici.
Alexiev život je posvećen prvobitno muzici, a kad nije na nekoj turneji sa nekim bendom onda vrijeme provodi igrajući video igre, opijajući se te vježbajući na gitari. Omiljeni hobi su mu auti; otac ga je naučio voziti auto sa 10 godina. Sam posjeduje Pontiac Firebird, 1974 Dodge Monaco te Buick. U februaru 2002. godine vjenčao se sa Kimberly Goss, vokalisticom benda Sinergy tokom privatne ceremonije. Prije toga su bili zajedno preko 4 godine. Rastali su se 2004. godine.
Više puta Alexi je govorio o drugim članovima benda kao „vjerovatno jedinim, pravim prijateljima koje je ikad imao“. Ima istetovirana slova „COBHC“ (Children of Bodom Hate Crew) na rukama kao izraz poštovanja prema Ozzyu Osbourneu koji ima sličnu tetovažu. Dosta fanova u svijetu je to takođe učinilo; neki su pak vatreni fanovi otišli u krajnost da su noževima i britvama urezivali slova direktno u kožu. Alexi se pojavljivao nekoliko puta na naslovnici „Young guitar magazinea“ kao i na naslovnici „Guitar Worlda“ zajedno sa majstorima Steveom Vaiem i Zakkom Wyldeom. Nadimak „Wildchild“ je nadimak iz pjesme benda W.A.S.P. Prva gitara mu je bila Tokai Stratocaster.

Amon Amarth is a viking-themed melodic death metal band from Sweden founded in 1992[1] in Tumba, named after a location in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. The name means "Mount Doom" in Sindarin.
The five Swedish musicians are known for their songs based on Norse Mythology. This is an element that originally emerged as a sub-genre of black metal known as viking metal in the early 1990s, made popular by such bands as Enslaved, although the band themselves do not actually exemplify the genre's sound.
Formed under the name Scum, they switched to the name Amon Amarth in 1992 and released a demo recording, The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter, in 1994, selling all 1000 demo discs in less than 12 hours. This demo brought them to sign at Pulverised Records on which they released in 1996 their first MCD "Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds" from which they sold 6000 copies (6000 copies in 4 different versions, this info is directly provided from Pulverised). This release brought them to Metal Blade Records. With the release of the album Once Sent from the Golden Hall in 1998 their popularity rose on an international level and since has brought forth multiple U.S. tours, four music videos and appearances in over 100 metal magazines.
Their latest album, With Oden on our Side was released in 2006 on September 22nd (Germany/Austria/Switzerland) / September 25th (Europe) / October 5th (Canada).
