Hah

Hah!It was like trying to see Snuffleupagus. I was trying to open my apartment door every time I smelled smoke in the hallway, to see if I could observe the smoker in the act of smoking. I was just missing the person each time. (there is no smoking in public buildings in my area)Today: caught in the act! I opened my door just as he did, and he saw me see him with the lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth.I have spoken to the super, and she's spoken to him, and she said the next step is for the corp. to write a letter to him asking him to stop. As if that will work. This guy will likely have a smoke in his hand on his deathbed.

so... this is the start of my week off. I ahve a week of vacation to burn still, so I booked it... and it's this coming week.Hopefully I don't squander it surfing the internet till 2pm every day!!!!!!!!! :D XD ;)There were some doctor's appts and other things I had wanted all arranged by now, to take advantage of it, but the only thing solid is an Hour taping on Wed. *squee* But I think if I call them Mon., I can get appts. for Friday etc etc etc.I will have to actually make a list to make sure I get shit done. (sewing, cleaning up, shopping, making a portfolio for continuing ed. art classes)Case in point, today: 10am went to church 11:00 went grocery shopping 2pm went back to bed5pm on the internet, downloading French CBC podcastsso yeah.

LOL I'm having fun practicing reading French here... the FAQ section of the Tout Le Monde En Parle website. It's a TV show in Quebec that has caught my eye from time to time... I only understand snippets of what they say, but the energy of the hosts and guests is entertaining nonetheless, and sometimes I recognize some of the guests.Here's a sample letter from the section where the host answers audience letters:7 novembre 2006SUJET DU MESSAGE : Plus d'artistes connusJe pense que vous n'invitez pas assez dartistes connus.ric BrassardJe pense que vous ne connaissez pas assez dartistes.Andr D.OMFG. well I heard from the vet

well I heard from the vet.It's not thyroid, it's not kidney trouble, it's not diabetes.So now what? He wants to xray or ultrasound the intestines to see if there's something blocking there.Not to sound like a bad cat owner, but it's expensive already. I talked to a person at work, he said that he draws the line at a certain point money-wise, and also at any procedure that is invasive, that is likely to stress the animal out more than it adds to quality of life. I agree. He gave me some good ground to stand on, regarding when to say "no" to the vet people. So I think I will say yes to the ultrasound, but no to anything surgery. But then what's the point? If the exams show she's clearly gotta be in some pain, then I guess we can put her down, and if she doesn't seem to be in pain, then I guess let her be, and try to make her comfortable.I feel terrible for her because there's nothing to do for her yet. I tried feeding her, putting canned food in her mouth, but she's not so enthusiastic about that, and I feel pretty futile. I'll try again tonight but meh.It feels weird to have Heidi under the bed, and Deena snuggled up to me ON it. I miss having 2 kitties on the bed. :(

well kitty went to the vet

well kitty went to the vet... and got some expensive tests. O.o Basically they think it's one of 3 "old-cat" diseases and they'll figure out if it's one of them. Kidney failure, diabetes, and I forget what else. She also lost a pound since last year, so she's definitely going downhill in some way or other. Deena seems like such a fat bastard example of good health, in comparison.I don't want to see her in distress, but I kind of don't want to know just how MUCH distress she's in, all the same.I warmed some wet cat food for her, and put some on her paw... hasn't eaten too much, but she's grooming herself, which seems like an improvement.I have to go to work, so hopefully Deena doesn't snarfle down her food while I'm gone.

aww

aww... my one cat, the older one, isn't herself. I have gotten used to the jingle of her bell at my door, when I unlock it when I come home.Tonight she wasn't there, she didn't jump out for food like they both usually do. She was laying on my bed, kind of weak-ish, and I brought her to the dry food, she didn't eat any. I opened a can of wet food which they usually go nuts for, and she didn't take any of that either.My first thought was OMG she's dying - she's 15. But now I wonder if she doesn't just have a cold, she's been sneezing a bit. She's due for a vet visit anyhow... not having a car makes going to the vet a pain in the ass. Unfortunately I think I'll have to go tomorrow or the next day and just squeeze it in around work, which is tricky. O.o I just hope she isn't suffering in silence, like pets tend to do.

so it's municipal election day today

so it's municipal election day today. I fully expect chaos at work. That is all.well not really... I went to Michaels, after realizing there isn't really anywhere near the Eaton Centre to buy yarn, and I'm making a baby carriage cover thing for my cousin, who is going to have a baby soon.I have to start doing some art soon if I'm going to get a portfolio re-vamp for applying for this course I want to apply for. *sigh*and I watched Tout Le Monde En Parle, and understood about 17% of what they said. Boy has my french gotten shitty over the years. sigh Anyhow they interviewed this funny... uhh.. comedians? Animators? ??? http://www.tetesaclaques.tv/ OMG doesn't matter if you understand french, hilarity just the facial expressions. The site has video.

LOL Note, on his website, the extensive use of Times Roman and underlined text that is not a link. hmph!I am really liking ohnotheydidnt these days.I heard my high school... uhh... buddy on the ham radio. I don't want to really talk to him, yet I heard a whole conversation, after which I was 100% sure it was him. LMAOI also saw a friend of a friend on lavalife... blocked him before he sees me! LMAO again.what a weird day.

Several thoughts

Several thoughts:How do I get a .jar file to run? I was mystified, as to how to get Java to see it, as double-clicking works for RSSOwl, but not Ashpool. I read the Help site for Ashpool, but... when I used the DOS prompt command line whatever, it gave me errors but I could see it was making an honest effort to run it.See Ashpool is a database thingy that works with XML databases... and I need (well "need" is a strong word for it) something to make a simple database with, and it seemed liek just the thing. Being that I'm already somewhat familiar with XML from making my own RSS feed files (same difficulty level as editing HTML, I find) I'm still drooling at the idea of working with database files at such a low level, as well as using something that might somehow have a real world application some day.I loved Hypercard, but it doesn't run on a PC. I might get Metacard still but I was intrigued by java and xml. Filemaker Pro would be pricey, and hey, it would be just the thing, but it's not as fun as hypercard (it handled the year 2000 not to my liking) and it... dunno, now I want to learn about other databases.I went to fix my window... so I walked, as I figured bringing the frame with jutting broken glass on the bus was a bad idea, as the bus pitches us around a bit as it stops and turns... didn't want anyone to be impaled. I had encased it in cardboard, but the last thing I wanted was a lawsuit. Too bad it took me 45 min to walk - I had thought, hey, today, I have that kind of time, but I assumed it would take a half hour - too cheap for a taxi. This window was broken... by well-meaning friends... attempting to put an air conditioner in. It's four windows, that slide, comprising 2 layers of glass. In the past, in every house I have ever lived in, similar windows were all exactly the same height, and they just lift in - you shove the top part up into the frame, and there's enough give that you can slide the bottom part in. Easy peasy. However these BRAND NEW windows have a slightly different design. The outer ones seem to be just a wee bit smaller than the inner ones, and they all had to go in exactly the same way they came out. The fellow busted one trying to get it to fit into the place it was too small for, by just millimetres. Also, it doesn't just kind of slide in - it's some safety thing that you have to wrench it to get it in, it's some weird new thing. That's why he thought he just needed to give it some elbow grease to get it in, meanwhile it actually wasn't fitting properly. I am not putting it back, I am going to get the super to do that. :D It's too bad, I used to clean windows like this all the time when I was a kid, but these are now a pain in the ass to remove and put back. So to go to this window fixing place with no car was a major pain in the ass so I am glad I got it done today. I'm just glad it's under way before it gets really cold.But on the way home, I walked past several stores I would have normally have used to drive past. (I am likely not getting back my car, it would appear, due to multiple things wrong with it, plus its age) So I went to a computer store, and bought some little multimedia speakers, and rearranged the ones I already have. The plan was for me to a) hear my ham radio scanner in more than one location in my apartment, and for me to b) hear my computer through the stereo. Mission accomplished! I listened to the ham radio dudes in my kitchen. I solved some issues, and though I have more elaborate plans, it's great for the time being.

The fire alarm went off in my building last night

The fire alarm went off in my building last night. I tried taking a cat with me, but to no avail... I didn't make a really good effort, because last time, the alarm was triggered by a problem with water in the elevator, so I figured chances were fairly low that it was a real fire.I was right. On my way down, I saw indications that the alarm was pulled as part of someone's domestic dispute. I have heard that women, in reaction to being abused, will do something that ends with themselves getting arrested. I don't know what the end result was, the fireman eventually shooed us back upstairs. I listened on my scanner, but I didn't hear anything.
