    Brown was unique for having an interracial band and some of his music reflects the influence of minstrel shows and popular entertainment in its lyrics. As such, some of the lyrics may be offensive nowadays but they provide insight into the racial attitudes prevalent especially in the Jim Crow south but also found elsewhere in the United States at the time. Still, the music is great and at a minimum the lyrics reflect another time in the history of the United States that cannot be forgotten.

    Thanks for posting this and so many other Document recordings. Document is doing an incredible job in preserving early blues, rags, and other African American music. I'll take the occasional scratches that may bother audiophiles because where else can one find this music so easily accessible?
