This blog, the Collective and its successor, Blue Eye, and Don't Ask Me I don't know form the quartet of blues blogs to which I owe my knowledge of contemporary and early blues and pre-blues music. There is a dearth of radio stations playing blues in this are nowadays, so I rely on these blogs to educate myself more and discover new artists. Through your blog, I discovered Eric Bibbs Hans Theessink, Guy Davis, and so many other contemporary bluesmen and blueswomen.

If any record company moguls are reading this, they should know that their coffers have been enriched in a very small way because of my purchasing music by artists about whom I first learned through these blogs. Moreover, I discovered the fantastic work that Document Records is doing through this blog's predecessor and the Collective and bought Document's series of the complete recordings of Victoria Spivey, the early recordings of Sippie Wallace, and many others. So seek to extinguish these blogs at your peril because, absent reading Gerard Herzhaft's Encyclopedia, there are all too few places available from which I can learn about artists in whom I am interested. It's this simple in my home, no knowledge, no purchases, no profits for your company and your artists.

Lastly, a heartfelt thanks for the free, yet extensive, education in the blues and earlier recorded African American music that your blog has provided. The blues echoes from my speakers much of the day and vies with jazz for my primary attention. To learn of artists like Theessink from outside of my country who are so intrigued by the music that they devote their careers to it is encouraging and exciting. Enough said, I bought my first blues record by Little Walter when I was fifteen, forty three years ago, and was fortunate enough to see Muddy Waters in a small club. The blues ain't' nothing but the joys and sorrows of living celebrated through music and will always love it. Thanks again to you and all of the other contributors for the effort you expend in celebrating the music..
