Ali nije li u biti svaki predputopis samo amalgam postojećih putopisa? :P Osim ako bi bio isključivo o nagađanjima i ne baziran na realnosti (opisanoj putopisima) kao ovi običaji...

    /devil's advocate

Hey, thanks for faxing me the copies of passports as promised!
By the way, you guys did great with the application forms, no need to worry. And whoever said that she had got from us an original handwritten visa "na golo telo" is lying. maybe some other embassy.....

PS: in Azerbaijan - drink away all you want; blowing your nose in restaurants will simply cause a few turning heads and probably just as many rolled eyes; toothpicks are widely used; not sure what you meant by pointing of feet; i wouldn't use hardcore cuss words in azerbaijani or russian in public - the turning heads could speak up and ask you to tone it down a notch; smiling is increasingly ok, except in some cases people could get an impression that you are hitting on them and may try to reciprocate in a way, which, frankly, you may find harassing. in fact, doing all of these is ok if you get drunk enough....which, as i mentioned, is allowed. you might not remember anything anyway, but that's only bad for your travelogue :)))
things rarely turn out to be the way we picture them and often not the way others describe. and not even us natives can get it exactly right. each experience is unique and depends as much on one's predisposition and state of mind, as on the environment.
    Enjoy your cultural research!

Wow! Great to hear from you :D. The story about the visa ”na golo tijelo” was a silly joke, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or offensive - of course it isn't true. My writing style, as you can see from other posts on this blog, uses a lot of hyperbole and other rhetorical devices. Most of what is here uses some factual basis to create a narrative which is fictional, thus visa "na golo tijelo". I do hope somebody translated this blog post for you, because if you used google translate all sorts of weird things might have come up. The point of this blog post was really that I am highly suspicious of the narrative format of travel guides (wiki travel in this case) because they are brimming with prejeudice. This is why I am writing this prior to my trip, as a way of questioning the discourses that circulate around travelling to Azerbaijan. But thanks for clarifying about drinking :D (although this was also a joke - I did realize already when I started preparing for the trip that this won't be a problem - this joke is rather about us and our drinking habits than it is about your country). In any case, thanks so much for leaving this comment, it really pleasantly surprised me! All the best
