    Fast twitch fibers are needed for powerful athletic movements such as running, but they tire quickly, as eating from the limited stocks of primary fuels - glycogen. Their more diminutive counterparts slow twitch, slowly burning its fuel, is crucial for fine movements, such as sewing or painting, as well as to fine-tune the more powerful moves. Activity, based mostly on small slow twitch fibers, may continue for long periods, while more prone to fatigue fast twitch fibers are reserved by the body for a powerful short bursts of activity.
