In addition to observing cell colonies, scientists have studied the effect Tet1 in "real life", to trace the development of mouse embryos lacking this protein. They found that if Tet1 removed from one cell two-cell embryo, the cells developed from deprived Tet1 cells exhibit a tendency to become cells of the trophoblast, but not the inner cell mass, from which develop pluripotent stem cells.
