Can you please explain what "BLOCK THE HOSTS FILE" means? I understand that having the custom hosts file stops Adobe products from phoning home. I have successfully installed CS4 suite many times using your Hosts fiole but updating ALWAYS breaks the licensing. A sneaky Windows Update broke it last time. I think you may need to do more testing as I would still recommend not updating at all.

Block the hosts file means what you already did - immunize it with Adobe values etc.

You should never, ever use Windows Update. There is not a SINGLE update you can install that makes your PC safer than it was before. NOT A SINGLE ONE. Regardless what security sites tell you, regardless of what microsoft tells you, there is not a single useful update that isn't sneakily engineered to fuck you up because you have an illegal version of windows. Not a single one, trust me on that.

I don't know if you killed Adobe Updater or not, I still don't recommend using it. But we tested the updates from the link I mentioned in the last post and those work 100% without breaking the license a single time. All you have to do is have ZA installed and proper lines blocked as described in previous posts, and the hosts file fixed. And of course, Adobe Updater killed. That's it basically. Did you do all that? Because every single one of the testers, including my own 10 installations, came through perfectly without a hitch.

Cool. I don't have an illegal version of Windows but I will follow your advise and turn off all Windows updates. I don't think your post is clear enough though. You say it is possible to update Adobe products through the Help > Updates menu but you also say not to use Adobe Updater.

I must be missing something because Help > Updates actually starts Adobe Updater. I guess the safest method is to update via the download site provided. Thanks for all the hard work. Much appreciated!

Ahh, sorry about that! I'll correct it once I find some time, I didn't realize I wrote it like that, just skimmed through.

Yeah, I suggest using the site, that's the only 100% safe way that I can personally guarantee works.
I'll make some sort of update hopefully soon, cheers and good luck!

Hey thanks for all the posts.
I have Windows 7 Build 7100 64-bit installed on my computer and I followed all your instructions. Here are some snags I fell apon on the way, but in the end, I think it worked out alright.

    1. Before knowing about this site, I installed it on my XP and Vista (piece of crap) PCs no problem, on Win 7 though, it didn't work. So I did the steps in cleaning my registry with the program you listed. That went well as well, but then I was stupid enough to DEFRAG my registry which managed to FUCK my system up. Because I had a dynamic drive, system restore was disabled, and my computer restarted and gave me the blue screen of death after "Starting Windows" logo came up. It was some sort of physical memory dump. Anyways after a few formatts (luckily my computer was empty anyway and CS4 was the first program I wanted to install), I came back to finish the job, this time making sure System restore was on and enable on the right drive!

    2. Zonealarm as you probably know doesn't work on Win 7, so I used COMODO since you reccomennded it. It's a pretty strong program, but the bad thing is it doesn't give you a list of the things blocked and enabled for you to work from. So I'm constantly checking the incoming/outgoing traffic to see if Adobe sneaked its way in. All-in-all, it did the job, at least for today.

    3. Before turning my internet back on, I tested Photoshop and AE maybe 6 or 7 times and disabled adobe updater and enabled the license checker as my programs would close if I didn't. (Like you said it would.) I only installed it an hour ago, and even after turning my internet back on, it seems it has done the job...for now.

If any problems or other snags come along the way, I'll make sure to post here so anyone with similar problems will know what to do or if they can help. In a few days if everything is still working fine, I'll try and make a post here as well.

Anyways good luck to anyone else hoping to install CS4, it REALLY is a useful program. And thanks again for this awesome blog. Keep up the work.

It's Croatian, the first blog that fell into my lap. I figured it's be somewhat difficult for people to get around so I made the other version too, on blogspot.

If you sent me an email regarding your problem, I'll likely check it out when I get back to my home town.

Oh I see, I'll email and post my problems so people can read this blog and see if it helps them as well.

After 3 days of having CS4 here are some problems I ran into.

    1. Every time I open any CS4 application, the splash screen comes on for a second (if not at all), and then this error message pops up...

    http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/2913/cs4error.png

Saying that my license has stopped working for this product. The programs were working yesterday, but today I got a pop-up from COMODO saying that rundll32.exe wants access to quicktimesomethingsomething.exe and I denied it. A few hours later when I went to go on Photoshop I got this error. It says restart and try again, which I hvn't yet, but I got this message once before (right when I first installed the program), but even without a restart it went away. Obviously the first thing after I post this is to restart and try again.
Anyways, as you can see, my first problem is that CS4 has stopped working.

    2. WHEN CS4 WAS working, I don't think it recognized my graphics card. I have recently bought a new computer FOR graphics and 3D-animation (I can't afford CS4 obviously), with an ATI Radeon Sapphire 4870 HD 1GB video card. I have installed all the nessecary drivers for it, but when I go to the AE preferences, it says it doesn't support Open GL 2.0 and above.

The thing is, before I installed CS4 on my newly formatted Windows 7, I installed it on my computer BEFORE I formatted, and again, it was on windows 7 build 7100 (it was the same computer, same windows 7 CD, everything). I hadn't followed the instructions on THIS site when I installed it back then, rather the instructions on my torrent. But for the first few minutes that CS4 worked, I went into AE and it could read my graphics card and Open GL was enabled.

I THINK it has something to do with disabling the GPUSniffer.exe in your instructions, but I can't be sure. Either way, it's not working at full capacity, and my computer would sit by and idle.

    3. Last (and the least), is a problem I had with AE and other 3D software like Cinema 4D, I doubt you can help me with this one, but I think it might be related to my computer not reading my video card, anyways in SOME boxes/windows in the program, if I click and drag an object, the places where my pointer/mouse WAS is left with a trailing image of what USED to be there. It's a little confusing to explain, and since I can't go into AE anymore, I'll have to screenshot it from C4D, but it looks the exact same.

    http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/8240/trailingmouse.png

There's the screenshot of the trailing mouse problem.

Anyways I hope there is a fix to this, because my life revolves around graphics. Hope you can help! Thanks in advance.

Ok, I did a little digging and this is what I found.

    http://www.megaleecher.net/Flexnet_Licensing_Service

    Fixing Adobe CS2/CS3 Licensing Issue:

Goto Start -> Run, type in services.msc in Run box and press Enter.
Navigate to FLEXnet Licensing Service and enable it as shown below:

    -----------------

Since I disabled FLEXnet Licensing Service this morning, this is 99% the problem. I will re-enable the service, restart, and try again. I have high hopes. :D

Sorry for the massive number of posts, if this can be merged or something I'd appreciate it, BUT, even without a restart, as soon as I activated FLEXnet Licensing Service Photoshop run up and worked like a charm.

Hello, I installed that zone alarm 8, and my vista ultimate sp1 without the infamous update did not shutdown, even not restarted... I had to go to restore point, because it told me that there was a problem with the domain too... what a mess... ! I'm trying v7 now...

Ok It's been about 2-3 weeks I think, and so far no major issues, but I can't seem to get Premier Pro open. The first time I tried to open it, I accidently denied a program that was apprently vital to it running, and now I can't find it anywhere. It's called "ImporterProcessServer". It says restarting your computer may fix this but of course it doesn't.
I want to re-enable this process from my firewall and defender in COMODO, I just don't know how.

The problem might not even be that, I have no clue.
Anyways I havn't tried any other programs yet. Will update soon.

    Thanks
