The one who betrays, that is he... (Reflection on Holy Saturday)
On Saturday before Easter Judas Iscariot is always mentioned. Always with delicacy, almost sentimentally Krlezian, in the spirit of the polychrome sky in a holy ikon. It is just a few years since they recalled him out of the corner, then promoted what was found in the gospels associated with his name. Hallo! A man could play a more ungrateful role in his twelve chosen. It would not surprise me if it is just he who is his favourite disciple. He performs a crucial role, that is to say, the Golgotha mystery would fail to operate in the most delicate place without that particular kiss.
Would you be willing to betray for a greater cause? The role is realistic, “cross my heart” it is not just play-acting treason. Nobody would, but somebody had to. In theory we are all strong, but every day somewhere someone betrays. Betrayal is foul, but that man is a hero, who acts alone among all traitors. One in twelve could. He did not retreat. Heroes are usually those who in front of the biggest boss say: and well, somebody had to, I was…
You always remember Judas tenderly, and he will give all your small, private and intimate betrayals a comradely flavour, a comrade in battle.
