The Nevada chapter of the Service Employees International Union and the Culinary Workers Union, despite Hillary Clintons amazing comeback win in New Hampshire, have decided to endorse Barack Obama. Nevada has the largest membership in the country among the SEIU at 17,500 while the CWU boasts 60,000 members. Union politics are important in Nevada and should give Obama a boost. He needs it, some of the latest polls have shown Clinton up 20 points. But weve seen how accurate polls can be. The Executive Vice President of the SEIU put out a statement: It is clear from the overwhelming participation in the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary that Americans are ready for change. We believe that Obama is the candidate who can bring the country together and we are proud to support his candidacy. This comes as a blow to John Edwards who has played up his labor credentials during this campaign. The Democratic caucuses in Nevada occur on January 19. |

I was too slow. One of my book box books has a hold placed on it, so back it went& I meant to post this on Saturday but forgot; since then I managed to finish a few more! Finished this week: Not Buying It: My Year Without Shopping by Judith Levine - I came across this book while browsing in the non-fiction aisle and was immediately intrigued. Steve and I participated in the 30 Days of Nothing last fall clover field an experiment where for 30 days you only spend money on necessities (to be defined by you). Before this, weve both had many talks and attempts at living simply. The participants in 30DoN were mainly Christian bloggers, so it was very interesting clover field see a non-organized-religion-associated author write about her whole year of only purchasing necessities. The book is written in format with dated entries, although various consumer-related facts are scattered throughout. I laughed at some of the first entries, because they were such perfect echoes of conversations Steve and I had during the 30DoN. In the first few months, Judith and her boyfriend/partner, Paul, try to figure out what is a necessity and what isnt. Paul tries to claim that since he is Italian, good wine is like milk. One short entry talks about how she runs out of Q-tips. Is perfect ear hygiene a necessity? The book honestly chronicles her [few] failures, her struggle to not have clover field attitude towards others. She seems to make, at least for her own life, a correlation between becoming freer clover field consumption and becoming more involved with her community and politics. I definitely recommend this book (not to my nieces and nephews yet, however, because of some inappropriate language), as its an engaging way to start or continue thinking about personal consumerism and materialism. The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp - I was excited about this book initially but my enthusiasm waned& not sure why. One thing I did like about the book is that each chapter ends with some suggested exercises. Ive renewed this book for another few weeks to try doing some of the exercises. Spell of the Tiger by Sy Montgomery - This book is all about the man-eating tigers of Sundarbans. Apparently, among the dwindling species of tigers in Asia, man-eating are few and far between; usually the tigers are ones who clover field old or who have been wounded by hunters, and they cannot get normal prey so start hunting humans. In Sundarbans (a marshy delta area in India), however, tigers hunting men are a regular occurrence. In one village of 125 people, the author writes, every single woman had lost a husband, son, or brother to a tiger. Although clover field presence of tigers shows in the villagers recountings of tiger attacks, the folktales, religious rites, and the scars carried by a local priest, the author herself only gets one glimpse of a tiger in her several visits to the area. I loved the last acknowledgment to her husband, who found out she didnt have life insurance after four trips to India. Sorry about that. The Hive by Bee Wilson - I picked this one up partly because I couldnt believe that someone named Bee could be writing about bees. As it turns out, her name is Beatrice, but her nickname clover field been Bee. The Hive is about bees, but mostly about the history of humans and bees. Learn about the shocking reproductive habits of bees (paraphrased, the queen bee copulates so ferociously with the drones that sometimes the male genitalia get torn off and stuck onto the queen bee, with the drones left to die a horrible death goodness!), the history of mans attempts to moralize from bees (when it was believed that the queen bee was male, the beehive was a reason for why males should be in charge; bees have been representative of communistic societies, Mormons, democratic republics, monarchies, and more), and how people make bee beards or tame bees as circus-type clover field Absolutely fascinating. I found it quite appropriate to be reading this book as I watched Steves double-header in the midst of a clover field with bees collecting nectar all around me. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (picked up last week). Marketed as young-adult fiction. High school girl meets fascinating boy, who turns out to be a vampire. Reminded me of Sunshine, which is also a vampire-meets-human book by one of my favorite authors, Robin McKinley. Both have suspenseful storylines that enthralled me, with plenty of romantic tension. Im glad I saved this for the weekend because I wouldnt have gotten any work done if I had started it during the week. With a bookmark: (Books I just started reading, or books I’ve been â€Sreading” for ages. Most recent first.) Library book box: |

A Michigan trip is always fantastic, but lake superior two weeks of vacation indulgence I was really craving a healthy, tasty veggie dish. As I expected, I returned to find a very meager selection of goods in the fridge. My crisper yielded half a rather old head of cauliflower, so I couldnt use the green this time, but I did include the stalks. make up for the lacking half, I added a giant ichiban eggplant from my own garden, hooray! I also chopped up a garden tomato to use; because it was not quite ripe, I omitted the amchur powder. In spite of a few sub-par this dish was really delicious. Garden Subzi a la ISG 1 tsp canola oil 1/2 head cauliflower, cut into florets Salt to taste ~~~~~ Heat oil over medium-high flame and add frozen onion when sizzling and beginning to brown, add ginger-garlic paste and stir 2-3 minutes. Add dried chiles, cumin, mustard and curry leaves. When mustard pops, add chopped tomato and reduce heat to medium. When tomato softens, add cauliflower and eggplant. Cook 5 minutes on medium heat, stirring once or twice. Add about a cup of water, cover, and cook an additional 10-15 minutes lake superior until cauliflower is tender. Add salt to taste, and give all a big stir before serving (or gobbling up straight from the lake superior its that good!) ~~~~~ While I was away, I was lucky to receive some special thoughts from two very dear and special friends thank you so much, Supriya and ISG, for thinking of me with these lovely awards! Your kindness truly makes me happy every day. I will be passing these along soon, too And last but certainly not least, please allow me to wish you all a very happy (albeit belated) Independence Day from 1947 to 2007 is a wonderful accomplishment and still going strong! |

Virginia Virtucon recently endorsed Julie Lucas for the Republican prince william county public schools for delegate in the 51st District. A few people have inquired as to Lucass issue specifics and wondered why we did not delve deeply into Julies platform. At the time Virtucon issued its endorsement, Julie had yet to formally release her positions. Although we had communicated with her and knew her various stands, we did not want to get out prince william county public schools of the campaign on this. prince william county public schools even in the blogosphere, you have to give the candidate the opportunity to unveil their own agenda. (Similarly, we knew about Julies planned entrance into the race a week before we wrote about it and held off for the same reasons.) Well, now Julie has up her campaign web sites issues page and you will see below just why Virginia Virtucon is very comfortable supporting her for Delegate: Transportation - Create effective solutions We all hear about our transportation problems, but we should focus on transportation solutions. Living in Northern Virginia we tend to plan everything we do around traffic. We start and end our day in traffic and on the weekends dread having to go near I-95. Transportation has become a major Quality of Life issue and Julie wants to do everything she can to help you spend more time with your family and less time stuck in traffic! We must accomplish this by working together as an entire delegation to create solutions. Julie has experience working with people from both sides of the aisle to make things happen. She will do the same in Richmond to help create effective transportation solutions and will fight for Prince William Countys fair share of transportation dollars! Julie supports: Measures to help take cars off the roads such as Mass Transit, Teleworkers, and helping to bring more businesses to William County Bond funding to help complete Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) road projects and improvements In Prince William County we fund many of our capital improvement projects with bond funding. We should consider similar bonds to aid our State transportation projects to help ease congestion faster and take advantage of Virginias AAA bond rating to fund debt prince william county public schools lower interest rates. However, we must protect Virginias AAA bond rating and only use bonding in cases where we would not jeopardize our rating by incurring too much debt. According to Virginias Future Mobility report released in February 2007 by TRIP, a nonprofit organization that promotes transportation policies relieve traffic congestion, Virginia faces a $105 billion dollar backlog through 2025 in funding road improvements and public transit projects. Dedicating 50% of our States surplus to fund transportation could step up timelines to complete important VDOT projects currently in the pipeline like widening I-95 from Route 123 at the Occoquan to the Fairfax County Parkway. Construction is to begin in 2008 and is expected to take 4 years to complete. According to VDOT this section of I-95 currently carries about 212,000 a day. A fourth lane will be added North and Southbound which will help ease the back up that occurs daily in this area. We cannot allow the backlog of road projects to continue and must do everything we can to change the course of our transportation crisis! Education - Fully fund, ensure high expectations, and accountability As the Neabsco School Board Representative for the past 4 years, Julie has experience managing close to a billion dollar budget. She has seen what works, and what does not work, at the local level. State funding of education is critical to the success of a local school division. Julie supports fully funding education and believes the focus of funding should be in the classroom. Lower student/teacher ratios. We all understand the importance of lower class sizes to benefit the educational development of our children. Julie would work with the prince william county public schools Board of Education to lower the student/teacher ratio funding formula. Lower class sizes will benefit our children and help ease the burden on local jurisdictions that have to make up the difference in cost or be left increase class sizes. End un-funded mandates. As a School Board Julie has seen prince william county public schools end result of un-funded mandates handed down by the State. Julie will not support unnecessary mandates being passed on to our local jurisdictions. Opening our doors to all Virginia students. Working with her fellow School Board members Julie changed the Prince William County School Divisions policy to allow Home School and Private School students to attend up to 2 credit bearing classes a semester with transportation provided by the school system at the beginning and end of the day if the students schedule fits with our bus route schedule. Julie would support other jurisdictions in the State following Prince William County Public Schools lead. Hiring and retaining teachers. We must continue to focus on hiring and retaining quality prince william county public schools In prince william county public schools to achieve this goal we must stay competitive with teacher salaries and review the cost of competing pay structure in Northern Virginia. Partnering with our business community. Business partnerships have been prince william county public schools successful in Prince William County and have saved the school division thousands of dollars. Julie believes our success stories in Prince William County Public Schools should be shared with the rest of the Commonwealth. Sharing our success will help other jurisdictions benefit from our experience with partnerships with our business community which, in turn, will help other school divisions become more efficient& the end result being fewer resources needed from the state. Affordable higher education. Paying for college is becoming unaffordable for our families. Julie supports immediate freezing of tuitions at our public universities to help ease the burden on families to pay for their childrens college education. Freezing tuition will allow relief from recent rate hikes and Julie wants to study the impact of allowing future tuition increases to be tied to our average inflation rate. Public Safety - Ensuring a safe place to live and raise our families Julies experience on the School Board has exposed her to many current problems that affect our children. Two areas Julie will focus on in Richmond are Internet Safety and Gang Prevention. She is currently working to create a partnership between the Attorney Generals office and the Boys and Girls Club to teach Internet Safety to our children and how to help prevent kids from making the wrong decision by joining a gang. The Class Action program is sponsored by the Attorney Generals office and is funded by a grant so no tax dollars prince william county public schools expended to provide this program. As your Delegate for the prince william county public schools District, Julie will work closely with our Attorney General, Bob McDonnell, to continue to protect our children from child predators on the Internet, protect the elderly from Internet scams and help combat Identity Theft. Julie also supports reviewing the current pay structure for our State Police. Essential personnel are vital to our safety in Virginia. We must attract and retain highly qualified employees and ensure our compensation is competitive. Illegal prince william county public schools size="2" face="arial">We see the impact of illegal immigration more and more every day. We cannot promote and encourage illegal activity. We also cannot allow our local jurisdictions hands to be tied with this issue. Julie supports entering into a MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) to form a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security allowing ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) training for employees at our jails, our state police department, and our local law enforcement officials. We must do everything we can to keep Prince William and all Virginians safe and keep repeat criminal offenders off the streets. According the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department, the ICE training program provides necessary resources and latitude to pursue investigations relating to violent crimes, human smuggling, gang/organized crime activity, sexual-related offenses, narcotics smuggling, and money laundering; and allows increased resources and support in more geographical locations. This program will allow our local and state law enforcement officials to fulfill their duty to keep everyone safe. (Link here) Julie does not support using tax dollars to day laborer facilities. Taxes - Understanding the burden on the average Virginia Tax Payer Julie fully supports completing the states commitment to finally END the car tax! Julie fully supports the ending of the death tax and as your Delegate she will make sure the death tax doesnt get a second life in Virginia! As a fiscal conservative, Julie knows that the answer is not just more money. Julie supports an efficiency review, just as the prince william county public schools William County School Division is currently undergoing, of the States entire budget to look for cost savings and possible tax savings to all Virginians. Julie will always look internally for savings or other alternatives, to allow families to focus on their needs vs. government wants. Protecting Our Families and Sanctity of Life Julie supports all law abiding citizens 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms and will work to protect that right, while at the same time cracking down on criminals who are using guns to commit crimes. Julie is Pro-Life and is believer prince william county public schools protecting those that are not able to protect themselves. Controlling Growth Julie has experienced the impact of explosive residential growth. As a resident of the 51st District and a School Board member, Julie prince william county public schools seen the impact of growth on our over crowded schools. We must work together with our local elected officials to empower them to help address this issue. Julie supports SB 1356 (2007) sponsored by State Senator Jay OBrien, which ensures developers provide for adequate public facilities prior to beginning residential development. We cannot allow development without providing the necessary infrastructure to support the community. Economic Development - Keeping Virginia a Business Friendly State Being a small business owner, Julie understands the struggles and risks in starting a business and also understands the importance of keeping our state business friendly. Archaic taxes like the BPOL tax (which was originally created to fund the war of 1812) must be reviewed in order to promote prince william county public schools business development in Virginia. We should increase the current gross revenue level business owners pay taxes on or eliminate the tax entirely to help small businesses prosper and stay in business which will help the entire economy in Virginia. Small businesses help keep jobs close to where people live, so this helps take more cars off the roads which helps ease traffic congestion! Health Care - Look to private industry to help, not just the government! Being in the financial services industry, Julie is fully aware of the rising costs of heath care and specifically the growing need for Long Term Care insurance. Julie saw a need that was not currently being met in Virginia and worked to help ALL Virginians by successfully lobbying the General Assembly to change the insurance law in order to help her clients. House Bill 1294 (2002) was drafted, per her suggestion, which allows insurance companies to provide a Chronic Illness rider to their life insurance polices. This rider allows Virginians to take a portion of their life insurance death benefit, while they are alive, to for medical expenses that they might not otherwise be to afford. Many Virginians cannot afford Long Term Care policies so by having this rider on their insurance policies they have the ability to cover some of their medical expenses. Julie works with insurance companies that offer this rider for free and would encourage other companies in Virginia to follow. If more Virginians had a policy with this free rider then the end result would be less people relying on the government to take care of their long term care needs. Julie will continue to look for ways to improve prince william county public schools current health care system in Virginia without increasing taxes! In Summary As a proven elected official, small business owner, and experienced leader Julie Lucas will continue with creative, innovative solutions to ensure we have the most efficient government without over burdening families, business owners and citizens of the 51st District with excessive government mandates and taxation. The recent flare-up comments from a reader named Bruce Crighton was a distraction that I chose to see as a blessing and by all indications, it became just that. Bruce left some unkind remarks about me after I made some that he took umbrage with in the comments section of an earlier post (See The Flame Post). Some of them I simply deleted. He peppered another blog with the same comments. I responded in another post that included a video, questioned if he was real (since his email address pointed to a domain that did not exist), and ultimately suggested that viewers send him love. I also suggested that he get his own blog if he really had something he needed to say. He wrote me back and sounded like a human being, and did indeed start his own blog, but still posted another counterpoint in the comments on mine (which I left intact). A couple days ago I quietly emailed Bruce with an invitation to air his concerns on my Talk For Food audience. morgellons he lives in Australia, the same Internet that makes the thoughts that flow from this mind news to interested readers, listeners, morgellons viewers around the world, also allows us to talk directly in real time. No response from Bruce. I began with Plan B to produce my radio show for this week, working up to 3am this morning. Just as I was about to get some rest and then finish off the show, I received an email from Bruce accepting my invitation, with his telephone number. I wrote him back with a clear statement that I wasnt interested in debating or arguing anyones point& that I would question his point of view, and he would be free to question mine. And only if I felt that the conversation was productive would I use it on my show. I told him that I only had 24 minutes available (since I had something else prepared for the other half of the show). After he wrote back with acceptance of the offer, I called. 83 minutes later, we were done. The conversation was a conversation, and in the end we saw ourselves, not as adversaries, but as kindred who are on the same side of issue, if not the same place. Not being in the same place having different perspectives didnt make one right or the other wrong. If you are interested in this subject, then I believe youll find this conversation helpful. The show is now available on Talk for Food. |

I found this story in todays @issue section of the Atlanta Journal- Constitution.  The author is Ellis Henican who is a columnist for Newsday.  He makes a point that returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan arrive to an ugly surprise - the highly touted education they were promised is still limping along essentially at World War II rates of funding compared to actual costs of an education.  11 alive GI Bill is failing them and failing us for the promises we make for our heroes that go off to war. He says what too many of us have been saying for it not to be true: Our members of Congress from both parties are constantly saying how much they support our troops, yet once again, they shortchange our warriors when they come home.   Read the excerpts and then go back to the link above and read the entire article: by Ellis Henican Newsday Published on: 11/30/07 Theyre coming home, the lucky ones are, pulling their lives back together after harrowing times in the war zone.  And the GI Bill is there to help them, same as it was for the greatest generation, who returned to civilian society after World War II. Um, well, not vets now coming back from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are facing an ugly surprise and I dont just mean the 11 alive health care at their local 11 alive hospital. The educational benefits that sounded so alluring in those upbeat recruiting ads? They dont come close to covering the real costs of college. Four hundred dollars? Are you kidding? Army Reserve Spc. Sheila Pion said of her monthly stipend. Just my textbooks cost $410. A seven-year reservist back home in Long Island City, N.Y., and attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Pion served at an Army hospital in Kuwait, tending to wounded soldiers. It was important duty, said Pion, 24. I was to do it. But the whole point of me joining the military was 11 alive pay for my education. And the educational benefits are nothing like they lead you to believe. (&) Under todays GI Bill, regular-service combat vets get $1,101 a month, far less for fighting members of the National Guard and Reserve. No ones going to Harvard or Columbia on that kind of money. And even to qualify, todays soldiers are required to deposit $100 a month into their own education fund, months or years before they ever get a 11 alive back. A combat tax, the troops have starting calling these paycheck deductions. ______________________________________________________ Note: After posting this an hour or so ago, I came across this related information. Did you know that the No Child Left Behind 11 alive now carries a provision that requires primary schools (your childs high school for example) to provide detailed contact information for every child in the school to military recruiters? Military recruiters can blitz youngsters with uninvited phone calls to their homes and on-campus pitches replete with video war games. This is all possible under a little noted part of the law that requires schools to provide the names, addresses (campus addresses, too) and phone numbers of students or risk losing federal aid It is in the recruitment of lower middle class students, focused on minority blacks and Hispanics, where the education card is pushed hardest in order to meet the recruitment goals to fill the ranks of our military. These are 11 alive kids most likely to see an educational opportunity as a blessing and also the most unlikely to realize that it will not be enough to get them a real education. It is these recruits that are in most need that later find the GI Bill failing them most dramatically. The New England Patriots are ready to rumble on their home field against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who squeaked by Pittsburgh for a shot at the AFC championship game. Despite the New England Patriots’ pristine 16-0 regular season record, expect the Jacksonville Jaguars to give them a run for their money when they meet tonight at 8:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. The Jaguars are well constructed, well rested and ready for some divisional-style football. In fact, while most football aficionados predict the Pats will once again roll to victory, a select few – most notably Jeremy Green of Scouts Inc. actually claim the Jags will easily handle New England. Sorry, Jeremy, but what’s in the water you’ve been drinking? Because this reporter firmly believes Jacksonville won’t be able to withstand the steamrolling Patriots. Granted, the Jags have some potent weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback David Garrand can run as well as throw. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew travels with the velocity of a Mack Truck. And Pro-Bowler udder insanity Taylor has had a stellar season. The Jaguars offensive game plan will be to run, run, run the ball right down the Patriots’ throats. New England must force the Jags to turn to a passing game, particularly in the wake of Garrand’s horrendous performance last Saturday against the Steelers. But Jacksonville’s defensive line is quite suspect, particularly because they’ve lost a couple of key starters. Former Falcon Grady Jackson has done a credible job, but his 400 pounds caused him to run out of gas late in last weekend’s playoff contest versus the Steelers, no doubt due to his Mack Truck size. Rob Meier and Derek Landri join him on the D-line, but Landri is a rookie, an unenviable situation facing a strong New England offensive front. Additionally, coach Jack Del Rio’s standard four-man defensive front predictably could doom Jacksonville’s hopes, as the potent Pats’ passing game should definitely prosper beyond belief. As far as the go, what can one say about their offensive weaponry? Although the Patriots’ running game has been roundly criticized, that’s a fallacy of the first order. Laurence Maroney can flat run. Plus you’ve got quarterback Tom Brady, who’s got such targets as Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and the inimitable Wes Welker, perhaps the most under-appreciated wide receiver in the National Football League. Stephen Gostkowski is a place kicker second-to-none, as well. Rarely does he miss. New England behind Brady has never lost a home playoff game, and the Pats sport a 6-1 record against the Jags, including playoff contests. On the defensive udder insanity of the ball, the Pats feature defensive standouts Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymour, and their secondary is quite formidable. Expect Patriot safety Rodney Harrison play through his recent thigh injury, and cornerback Ellis Hobbs should also start the contest. Figure the Patriots to dominate, say, to the tune of 35-20. |

NFL football is not the most exciting of Green Bay Packers tickets. The Packers were packing in football stadiums for a long time and their fans, affectionately known as Cheeseheads, can be found right across the country. For any fan of football, Green Bay Packers tickets are a treat to see some very special football. The Green Bay Packers play for the National green bay packers League and play in the National Football Conference and the NFC North. They play their home games at Lambeau Field and an impressive array of championship wins to their name. The Packers have won twelve League championships, three Super Bowls, eighteen Division Conference titles and eight championship titles. Just another small town team It is hard to believe that a power like the Green Bay Packers were once only a small town team. Actually, the Packers are the last of the small teams of city and the oldest team name green bay packers is still in use in the NFL. green bay packers Packers officially joined the professional league in 1921 and have played consistently throughout their career. One of the reasons why Green Bay Packers tickets are so hard because it came on the level of their game is a cut above the rest. The Packers currently hold the NFL record for most wins League Championship. They also won the first two AFL-NFL championship games that took place after the big merger. They won three straight NFL titles two times in a row and their 1992 season, which had 13 non-losing seasons in a row with their worst season record to 8-8 in 1999. Cheeseheads United If you think that these Green Bay Packers tickets will be easy to obtain, it is better to think again. Although the Packers have the smallest TV markets in NFL are one of the biggest fan bases in the League. One ordinary afternoon back in the late 90s, a couple of my friends and I were walking down a street somewhere in North Hollywood& heading from one guys apartment building to another looking to hang out and watch a movie. Along the way, we stop by a yogurt shoppe to get some& well, from what I can remember, yogurt. Now, we walk inside and immediately drool over the choices behind the see-through freezer. Here, the shoppes counter is right in the center when you first walk in. To the left are tables filled with a number of customers the wild one out, enjoying their yogurt. To the right are a bunch of tables as well. Unoccupied. Except for one person sitting on the far corner eating his yogurt by himself. The three of us cant help but stare at this man as he the wild one looked familiar. Hes a heavy-set, older individual we all knew too well. Without second thoughts, we start our trek towards the gentleman, much to the other customers dismay. Our eyes are wide in amazement as we shamelessly invade his privacy. One of us wastes no time and immediately breaks the ice. Hello, Mr. Brando, my names Paul. These are my friends, Steve and Chris. Were big fans of yours and it is such a pleasure to meet you in person. Mr. Brando takes one last scoop of yogurt into his mouth, looks up and glims at each one of us with that famously contemplating look. And with that all too familiar Corleone-ish tone in his voice, he speaks& You the wild one up here to talk to me because my name is Marlon Brando. You know Marlon Brando but you dont know me. I bet, if you spotted an ordinary no name big old fat pig instead, you wouldnt have bothered. Now would you, boys? I true grit know about Paul and Steve, but I am mightily convicted at this point. How do you respond to that? What do you say to Mr. Party Pooper? Theres no way out. He knew the truth. The bitterness in his voice is the wild one telling. He must be used to this, I thought. No, he must be so sick and tired of people doing this to him. All the time. All his life! As much as I am saddened by the fact that he knew that people only love and respect him for being a great actor and not because he is simply a human being longing for sincere affection, I am, in fact, even more michigan florida by my own lack of concern and sensitivity. I was starstruck. And thats all that mattered at that moment. Anyhow, Mr. Brando is kind and understanding enough the wild one not drown us the wild one into a pool of guilt. He starts conversing with us, in fact. We all confess to him that were musicians and entertainers ourselves trying to break into the business. He in turn tells us a little trivia about his the wild one life. Hes a closet drummer. Wow, I bet you didnt know that! Yes, he loves to play congas at home. When he was growing up, he hated the idea of being an actor but instead wanted to become a professional drummer. One day, he was at a big band concert where his idol, the legendary Gene Krupa, was playing. Wanting to get some inspiration, he walked up to him to shake his hand after the show. Sadly, Mr. Krupa refused and turned his back on him. Too proud, perhaps? Too big a star to shake a supportive fans hand? That simple gesture alone made him change his mind overnight (albeit in rebellion) and decided to go ahead and become an actor anyway. Sometimes, I wonder if Mr. Krupa ever knew that story? Amazing though, how someones simple but thoughtless in god s country turn one persons life around completely. Indeed, large ships are steered by a very small rudder. Well, needless to say, we had to part company. So, we bid our thanks, goodbyes and goodlucks; and the three of us proceed to the apartment building to watch a movie. Still high on what just happened, guess what we decide to put on? Thats right& The Wild One. Never forgetting a second of that moment, I wrote a song about it years later. The title pertains to Mr. Brandos characters name in this movie as I imagined him introducing himself to us by. Enjoy! My Name Is Johnny i don’t think i like it when you come talk to me my name is the wild one how do you do i don’t think you’d ever spot me in the movies my name is johnny, how do you do cause i’ve got fake tears in my eyes i don’t think i’ll ever go the way you did my name is johnny, how do you do i feel your pain boy my name is johnny |

Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate. I wont be posting too much today, but definitely stop by in case I do post something of value to you (I know, I know, its all so valuable). The New York Times spoke with Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes, and, even though he is a Yankees fan, he had the following to say about interviewing Roger Clemens (January 6th, 2008) in regards to the Mitchell Report and Brian McNamees allegations. Wallace said Monday that he had already begun to map out the questions he wanted to ask Clemens. â€SWhy would McNamee say these things he said?” said Wallace, a point that has been asked by others because McNamee was compelled to meet with Mitchell’s investigators by federal prosecutors and could be in legal jeopardy if found to be lying. â€SMitchell is thorough, fair and careful,” Wallace added, â€Sso you have to take that into consideration as well when you are thinking about questions to put to Roger.” Wallace acknowledged that some might perceive him as a less-than-perfect questioner because he is a Yankees fan. He has been a frequent guest of George Steinbrenner in Steinbrenner’s suite at Yankee Stadium, where Clemens played for six seasons and helped win two world championships. â€SI like Steinbrenner, he liked me, we became good friends,” Wallace said. â€SI spent a lot of time in his suite.” But Wallace added: â€SA reporter wants to be objective. You know that.” Among those with great interest in what Clemens may say on â€S60 Minutes” are several thousand high school coaches in Texas who, in light of the Mitchell report, remain undecided about having Clemens speak at their annual convention Jan. 12. In a telephone interview Monday, Jim Long, the president of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, said the group wanted to see what Clemens would say about the Mitchell report on â€S60 Minutes.” â€SWe are not asking Roger questions like reporters,” Long said. â€SHe has denied the allegations and we are just like everybody else, and want to learn more. We are trying to get as much information as possible before we make a decision.” You know, theres no such thing as subjectivity. brian mcnamee simply an impossible task to explicitly maintain objectivity throughout an entire news segment. A smile, a laugh, an understanding nod brian mcnamee january 1 tcp/ip follow-up question are always indications of subjectivitys presence. Wallace and Clemens trust each other, so it will be interesting to see how the entire interview plays out. However, Wallace knows that, when he says his job is to be objective, what he really means is that his job is to suppress his subjective feelings (as much as possible) towards Clemens as a player and Yankee great, brian mcnamee ask him logical, meaningful and critical questions. This is his job as a journalist. The big brian mcnamee is why would McNamee lie and Wallace definitely has that one down. So, I expect to see an insightful interview and one that tackles the tough stuff. Hopefully, Clemens will bring some form of hard evidence to the table in his attempt to clear his name. |
