•) The Inspiration Behind this French Brooch Necklace (•

This particular creation was inspired by a French, 13th century gold ring brooch decorated with rubies and sapphires in tall collets encircled with foliage. We have named our own piece with an inscription that was common during this era: "Ami Amet Deli Pencet", which translated from French means "think of a friend who loves you".

True to the period we wanted this to be a versatile adornment, so we chose to include a little inspiration from a portrait of Sir Christoper Hatton, circa 1589, in which he wore a cameo suspended from a luxurious set of gold chains around his neck. In our own creation we've substituted the thick chains with fine, gold filgree leaves and stems, cultivating a more delicate art piece to grace a woman's gentle throat, while still being substantial enough for a man.

We say "inspired" because we don't recreate pieces, but rather conjure up our own jewelled magic based on the spirit of authentic renaissance adornments that capture our imagination, and that allow us to both explore and share some of the rich, historical context behind them.

Jewelry was worn by all ages and genders in the middle ages, and often had functional purposes as well as decorative ones. Pieces were often ornate and elaborate, with courtly love appearing as a central theme in many creations. This is the "intent" that this necklace was infused with during it's creation.

As influence increased toward the latter half of the thirteenth century so so the demand for jewellery outside of court circles. As a result, laws were passed in an attempt to prevent the lower classes from wearing jewellery at all. Edward III introduced a law in England in 1363 forbidding the families of artisans and yeoman from wearing "belts,
collars, clasps, rings, garters, brooches, ribbons, chains, bands or seals, or any other thing whatsoever of gold or silver", though this proved a rather difficult thing to enforce. Imagine trying to make that law work in Second Life *grins*

Last night, about 9 pm, I heard the Stellar Consciousness realise that it was listening to the wrongest possible mass of people brag about how they learned to think backwards from a helpful person to make the consciousness do everything FOR them because it makes them happy. If they were trying to teach our Star system something, they could have accomplished that long ago by sharing information with us in a way that was not so abusive. SO who exactly is "winning" if it feels good to destroy your brain and other people's lives while becoming completely dependant upon something you have to control with electronic transmitter machines to run your life for you?

Red Virus... you keep telling me not to have an opinion, but your mass of idiots keeps attacking me for my intersexual body... which is something I was BORN with, and it is made out of complex organic atomic material cellular tissue, and that means I am unable to *change* my intersexuality unless someone HELPS me to. I spent 27 years being attacked one direction and now that I changed my life completely they are attacking me from the completely opposite direction. It costs money in my society to do embrace the things you want me to and your constant attacks on me for being different from other people have made it impossible for me to work for someone. I want to ask these women who are synched up with the polarizing consciousness that keeps attacking me: If my mother was unwilling to help correct my intersexuality because of her RELIGIOUS beliefs, then WHY are you placing the burden of blame on someone who has been abused for thirty five years?

That means either help me pay for my surgery OR SHUT THE FUCKING HELL UP, RED STAR CONSCIOUSNESS.

Every time I write down what they are doing, they change their pattern of behavior to something else, but they have never been helpful.

A huge focus of this attack on the Stellar Consciousness involves beings trying to convince people to stop using a specific part of their brain, and this supposedly "synchs them up to the future" or something. Seems more like it allows a specific group like Elite avatars have access to higher function mental abilities. They probably have a hyperdimensional system that they insert into people's heads one they have hollowed out a large enough portion of their brain tissue. This is something they were doing a while back in 2009, I'm surprised they are still trying to.

If this is an area that coincides with a hyperdimensional or electromagnetic investment of energy, perhaps something stimulated by chemicals or working one's mind regularly... then getting someone to "turn off" their third eye is akin to convincing someone to shut down or let go of their own soul.

The antidote to the red virus is a black mold that grows in cool, damp, dark buildings that infects people's hyperdimensional aspect and begins eating away any of the red virus that it finds... the result will usually end up with a less violent green aspect that grows hyperdimensionally and teaches people's minds on behalf of Earth.

Okay... I am going to play a mental game to synch myself up with the Red Star consciousness:

The first step is agreeing with targetting Earth as our new enemy. Let's begin by seeing if we can crack the silicon based shell that protects this being from us. We have already created a hyperdimensional Matrix system that is capable of penetrating the mind of Earth. Silicon is fear of heat death. Obviously. How can we convince this being to trust the stars that it will not die in heat death but will rejoin with everything when the time is correct?

Silicon is tied to technological devices to such a degree that I believe it may have been building this planet as a way to grow a race of creatures to help it change the opinions of the Stellar Consciousness. This is something the red virus was communicating about... the idea that we should intentionally build our planet into an enormous space ship, using hyperdimensional thruster technology.

This would be akin to a gravity control system, and since gravity is a living being, the control system would be an information grooming and purification network. We can also send transmitter orbs to their star system to help shut up their pesky little star, Sol.

As an only child with a small extended family my folks are incredibly important to me. Married (now separated) after only 3 months of knowing one another I was born right after their first house was bought in the uptown area of Minneapolis in the late 70's and their wedding rings were designed by a local friend of theirs. Both of my folks have shown constant support throughout my life and provided me with massive inspiration in my adult life. Without knowing the other one had done so, they each gave me their wedding ring on separate occasions within months of each other. My mom's wedding ring also has the diamond from my grandmother's engagement ring. These would not be left behind.

We worked with our client from an original idea she had to create the perfect ring for her.

I combined carbon steel, stainless steel, brass and mastodon ivory to create this exquisitely petite ring. The band is carbon steel and was formed through pressing and cold forging processes. The pin holding the ivory is brass and comprised of a dual tube rivet/standard rivet combo. Stainless steel micro spacers act as a buffer between the ivory and the band.

Purchased for $1000 in April 2010 from a CR List member in Regina, Canada, who obtained it from the wife of the original owner who bought it new in the UK. He "updated" it in 1984 with Campagnolo Super Record derailleurs and gear levers, Dia Comp aero brakes, new wheelset of Mavic G-40s and low-flange Campagnolo hubs and Super Record large chain ring.

The Restoration
In original condition, the frame required only minor touch ups, but alas has a dent on the underside of the downtube which was not known at time of sale (grrr..!). The original component fit was restored with Campagnolo Nouvo Record rear derailleur, front derailleur, Nouvo Record chainring and brake levers and Campagnolo high-flange hubs and Fiamme Red label sew-up rims.

The Ride
This is the rare 1976 model of the Professional with 75 deg head and seat tube angles, offered only that year, and said to be too "twitchy" and resulting in a switch back to 74 degs parallel the following model year. The stiff angles combined with a short 39.25" wheelbase and a high 10.75" bb height make this a very lively and responsive criterium style pure racing machine which I, at least, don't find the least bit "twitchy".

Gios Torino Record c.1975
Purchased as frameset only on eBay (Netherlands) in May 2009. Back on the road 27 July.

An early example of this iconic racing machine indeliably associated with the famous Brooklyn Chewing Gum team of the 1970s and especially Roger De Vlaeminck. This frame is notable for its unusual chromed rear triangle in addition to the customary all-chromed fork. Other notable features of the first Gios Records seen here are the brake cable clips instead of braze-ons and no gold outlining of the white lettering. This frame also has the remains of a Gios Olympic rings decal on the bottom tube just below the head lug.

The Ride

Exceptional. Unique. A short top tube (57.5 cm on a 61 cm c-t-t seat tube), very light frame building into a very light bike (under 20 lbs. with full Super Record) and tight angles make this the first Italian racing bike I’ve ridden with that “light” quality I associate with French machines. A perfect sprinter’s machine so no wonder a favourite of De Vlaeminck, this is one sweet, fast ride.

I got a message on my Facebook wall from another dear friend Dr Robi Ludwig, she loves turquoise,,as much as I do or more...she wants one for Valentines Day..

Much of the turquoise I have is from Nishapur Iran.
The two big ones on my hand have a strange story, I got one of them the one on the left hand from a Indo-Iranian jewellery fair that was held at Bandra Reclamation..by Nassar of Lucky Hotel ..the guy who sold it to me was called Fairuz Iranian name turquoise ..my name is derived from the Iranian root Firoze.

We became good friends and because of my attire people thronged to his stall, he made a killing and gave me the turquoise stone at a very special price, he also gave me a ruby ring..I too bought a lot of amber from him, Kerba..

The ring on my right hand I found at a stall at Bhendi Bazar its an identical twin, just two shades lighter , normally I would dip my rings in badam oil, to get the depth of color ..and it gives a luster too.

I have a humongous collection of rings, many I have given away to some of my Gurus..
but my favorite are the claws and my set of black Sulaimani Akeek or agate.

I also have a huge rocky turquoise pendant from Tibet.. and two bead turquoise necklaces from Ladakh..

About Turquoise

Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium, with the chemical formula CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8·4H2O. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. In recent times turquoise, like most other opaque gems, has been devalued by the introduction of treatments, imitations, and synthetics onto the market, some difficult to detect even by experts.

The substance has been known by many names, but the word turquoise was derived around 16th century from the French language either from the word for Turkish (Turquois) or dark-blue stone (pierre turquin).[4] This may have arisen from a misconception: turquoise does not occur in Turkey but was traded at Turkish bazaars to Venetian merchants who brought it to Europe.[4] The colour, however, has been employed extensively in the decorative tiles adorning Turkish places of worship and homes for hundreds of years, beginning with the Seljuks, or was derived from the colour of the Mediterranean Sea on the southern Turkish coast and the association quite possibly has caused the name to take root.

Even the finest of turquoise is fracturable, reaching a maximum hardness of just under 6, or slightly more than window glass.[2] Characteristically a cryptocrystalline mineral, turquoise almost never forms single crystals and all of its properties are highly variable. Its crystal system is proven to be triclinic via X-ray diffraction testing. With lower hardness comes lower specific gravity (high 2.90, low 2.60) and greater porosity: These properties are dependent on grain size. The lustre of turquoise is typically waxy to subvitreous, and transparency is usually opaque, but may be semitranslucent in thin sections. Colour is as variable as the mineral's other properties, ranging from white to a powder blue to a sky blue, and from a blue-green to a yellowish green. The blue is attributed to idiochromatic copper while the green may be the result of either iron impurities (replacing aluminium) or dehydration.

The refractive index (as measured by sodium light, 589.3 nm) of turquoise is approximately 1.61 or 1.62; this is a mean value seen as a single reading on a gemmological refractometer, owing to the almost invariably polycrystalline nature of turquoise. A reading of 1.61–1.65 (birefringence 0.040, biaxial positive) has been taken from rare single crystals. An absorption spectrum may also be obtained with a hand-held spectroscope, revealing a line at 432 nanometres and a weak band at 460 nanometres (this is best seen with strong reflected light). Under longwave ultraviolet light, turquoise may occasionally fluoresce green, yellow or bright blue; it is inert under shortwave ultraviolet and X-rays.

Turquoise is insoluble in all but heated hydrochloric acid. Its streak is a pale bluish white and its fracture is conchoidal, leaving a waxy lustre. Despite its low hardness relative to other gems, turquoise takes a good polish. Turquoise may also be peppered with flecks of pyrite or interspersed with dark, spidery limonite veining.

As a secondary mineral, turquoise apparently forms by the action of percolating acidic aqueous solutions during the weathering and oxidation of pre-existing minerals. For example, the copper may come from primary copper sulfides such as chalcopyrite or from the secondary carbonates malachite or azurite; the aluminium may derive from feldspar; and the phosphorus from apatite. Climate factors appear to play an important role as turquoise is typically found in arid regions, filling or encrusting cavities and fractures in typically high

Construction Specifications of the Canton Viaduct

It is understood that the said viaduct shall commence at a point 10.5 feet north-east of station marked 670, of the centre line of the Boston and Providence Rail Road, and extend 613.5 feet on said centre line, to a point 3 feet south-west of station marked 676, crossing the mill-pond of the Stone Factory, so called : that the said viaduct shall terminate at each end by an abutment and circular wing walls : that the basement wall shall, in every part, be laid on solid foundation – shall extend entirely across the base of the structure, and project from 1 to 2 feet beyond the exterior face of the superstructure, as may be directed.

The said basement wall shall be constructed of the best dry masonry, and the stone of such dimensions as shall be approved of by the Agent or his assistant ; the said basement wall shall in every part commence at least 3 feet below the surface of the earth, except where solid rock shall be encountered, and shall be raised to such elevation as the Agent or his assistant may direct.

The superstructure shall consist of two walls, extending the entire length of the viaduct, connected at intervals of 27? feet by buttresses 5? feet thick, extending transversely across the walls, and projecting 4 feet beyond their faces – the main walls to be 4 feet thick, 4 ? feet below the grade of the Road, at all points, and to have a battre on their exterior faces of 1 foot in 48 feet, or 1 inch to 4 feet – the interior faces to be perpendicular, and
to have a clear of 4 feet ; the exterior faces of the abutments and buttresses to have a battre conforming to the faces of the walls, viz : 1 foot to 48 feet.

There shall be one arch for a road-way, situated near station marked 674, the span of which shall be 22 feet - (the distance between the buttresses at this point shall be 26 feet, to conform thereto) – and seven arches of 8 feet span each, for the passage of the water in the pond. The impost of the arch over the road-way shall be at least 12 feet from the surface of the road – the arch semicircular, and the voussoirs or ring stones 2 feet long,
and not less than 15 inches thick ; the intrados and vault of the arch to have the same character, and dressed to conform in appearance to the exterior surface of the walls ; each arch over the pond to be situated midway between two buttresses – the imposts to be at least 6 feet above the surface of the water when the pond is full ; the voussoirs to be 18 inches long, and not less than 12 inches thick, and the intrados and vaults of the same
character as that of the road-way.

The entire superstructure shall be constructed of the best range work, laid in mortar ; the beds, ends, and 1 inch round the faces of the stones, dressed ; each and every stone in a range, shall have an equable bearing, and shall not have a rise of less than 16 inches ; the stones in each course shall have a rise equal to the face stone of that course ; all inequalities or cavities, formed by the irregular ends of the large stones, to be filled with small stone
and mortar, and made solid. The ranges in no instance to be broken between the buttresses, but shall extend so as to include one buttress at least. There shall be a sufficient number of headers in each range to secure the stability of the work, and placed at such intervals as the Agent or his assistant shall direct ; and stone not less than 7 feet in length, and of sufficient thickness, shall be placed at intervals between the buttresses, as binders, to unite the two main walls, and projecting into the wall 18 inches beyond the interior faces.

The exterior surface of the abutments and wing walls, shall be similar the exterior surface of the main walls of the superstructure, and the stone forming the faces of the same laid in mortar ; the stone of the interior of the wing walls shall be laid dry – but in every other respect shall conform to the general character of the superstructure, viz : of the best range work, each stone having a solid bed and bearing, and of dimensions suitable to range with the stone forming the face of the course.

The buttresses shall be carried up to within 7 feet of the grade of the Road, where an impost, projecting about 6 inches, shall be laid, and arches, forming an arch of a circle, with verse sines of 4 feet each, shall be sprung up from buttress to buttress, the voussoirs of which shall be 18 inches through, and the character of the work similar in all respects to the arch over the road-way.

The entire superstructure to be surmounted by a coping 18 inches thick, projecting 1 foot beyond the exterior faces of the ring stones of the arches, and formed of stone of such dimensions as the Agent and Engineer or his assistant may direct, and the seams of the coping stones shall be filled and closed with suc

Here's my brand new pair of mens Perry Ellis black dress socks with 2 stripes running down the sock. I had these socks for a while now and I never realized that they were see through on the sides. I thought they were all black and I really liked the striped design. I decided to try them on with my formal tuxedo and Wow! The George Grantham Bain Collection represents the photographic files of one of America's earliest news picture agencies. The collection richly documents sports events, theater, celebrities, crime, strikes, disasters, political activities including the woman suffrage campaign, conventions and public celebrations. The photographs Bain produced and gathered for distribution through his news service were worldwide in their coverage, but there was a special emphasis on life in New York City. William Wyler (July 1, 1902 – July 27, 1981) was a motion picture director.

Early life

Wyler was born Wilhelm Weiller to a Swiss father and a German mother, in Mulhouse in the French region of Alsace (then part of the German Empire). [1]

He was distantly related to Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal Pictures, through his mother Melanie (a cousin of Laemmle's).

After realizing that Weiller was not interested in the family business of haberdashery and suffering through a terrible year working at 100000 CHEMISES in Paris after World War I, Melanie contacted her distant cousin about opportunities for him.

Carl Laemmle was in the habit of coming to Europe each year and finding promising young men who would work in America.

In 1921, Weiller found himself and a young Czech man, Paul Kohner (later the independent agent) on the same boat to New York.

Their enjoyment of the first class trip was short lived as they found they had to pay back the cost of the passage out of their $25 weekly income as messengers to Universal Pictures in New York.

After working in New York for several years Wyler decided he wanted to go to Hollywood and be a director

Film career

Around 1923, he arrived in Los Angeles and began work on the Universal lot on the swing gang, cleaning the stages and moving the sets.

His break came when he was hired as a 2nd assistant editor.

His work ethic was uneven at best with Irving Thalberg nicknaming him "Worthless Willy".

After some ups and downs (including getting fired) Wyler became focused on becoming a director.

He started as a 3rd assistant director and by 1925 he became the youngest director on the Universal lot directing the Westerns that Universal were famed at turning out.

In 1928, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

He soon proved himself an able craftsman and in the early 1930s became one of Universal's greatest assets, directing such solid films as The Love Trap, Hell's Heroes, Tom Brown of Culver, and The Good Fairy.

He became well-known for his merciless (some would say sadistic) insistence on multiple retakes, resulting in often award-winning and critically acclaimed performances from his actors.

After leaving Universal he began a long collaboration with Samuel Goldwyn for whom he directed such classics as Dodsworth (1936), These Three (1936), Dead End (1937), Wuthering Heights (1939), The Westerner (1940), The Little Foxes (1941) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946).

Laurence Olivier, whom Wyler directed to his first-ever nomination, for Wuthering Heights, credited Wyler with teaching him how to act for the screen.

Bette Davis not only received three Oscar nominations for her screen work under Wyler, but won her second Oscar for her performance in Wyler's 1938 film Jezebel.

Charlton Heston won his only nomination and Best Actor Oscar for his work in Wyler's 1959 Ben-Hur.

Barbra Streisand co-won 1968's Best Actress Oscar for her screen debut as entertainer Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.

In 1941 Wyler directed one of the key films that galvanized support for Britain and against the Nazis in an America slow to awaken to the threat in Europe, it was Mrs. Miniver (1942), a story of a middle class English family adjusting to the war in Europe. Mrs. Miniver won Wyler his first Academy Award for Best Director.

World War II

Between 1942 and 1945, Wyler served as a major in the United States Army Air Forces and directed two documentaries The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944) and Thunderbolt! (1947), with John Sturges, the story of a P-47 fighter-bomber squadron in the Mediterranean.

Wyler also directed a film which captured the mood of the nation as it turned to peace after the war.

The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), the story of three veterans arriving home and adjusting to civilian life, dramatized the problems of returning veterans for those who had remained on the homefront.

Wyler's most personal film, taken from his experiences away from his family for three years and on the front, The Best Years of Our Lives won the Academy Award for Best Director (his second) and Academy Award for Best Picture.

Postwar career

During the immediate postwar period, Wyler directed a handful of critically acclaimed and influential films, The Heiress which earned Olivia de Havilland her second Oscar, Roman Holiday (1953), which introduced Audrey Hepburn to American audiences and resulted in her first Oscar nomination and only win, Friendly Persuasion (1956) which was awarded the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) at the Cannes Film Festival, and Ben-Hur (1959) which won eleven Oscars (equa

Eminem once again showcased his comedic chops teaming up with Tracy Morgan and featuring a cameo by Cyndi Lauper to present the “Best New Artist” nominees throughout the show.

The band performed their latest single “Uprising” from a live remote at the Walter Kerr Theater in the Broadway district of Manhattan in front of hundreds of screaming fans.

Determined to top herself and once again raise the bar for live performances, P!nk mastered a jaw-dropping aerial act 30 feet above the stage while performing her single “Sober.” And yes, she sang every single word of it.
