The Fundamentals of Electronics (Mathematics and Schematics) Electronics fundamentals is a book about the fundamentals of electronics troubleshooting from a students perspective. The book was created by detailed notes taken by the author while he attended Penn Technical Institute lectures, labs, and classroom studies. (14) VHF Airband Receiver - Schematics WARNING: Ditch the part marked on the schematic as "optional" and use something else if need amplified audio. This pictured single transistor is a bad design and will cause circuit instability! This is the Airband Receiver Schematic. It is basically an tweaked version of Richard Anderson's Superregen Receiver (thanks for all the tips and comments, Richard!). See the remarks below the hand drawing. The circuit is broadband by its nature, but if tuned well enough to the ACARS frequency (131.725) it will allow decoding of the messages even if the voice transmissions will be heard in the background. WARNING- someone acquainted with electronics might notice that the circuit can be as well built without the front end transistor Q1, by feeding the antenna input directly into the collector of the Q2 transistor. Don't get tempted. THE Q1 IS THERE FOR PURPOSE. Without this stage the receiver *WILL* radiate RF noise back to the antenna, screwing up the radio and tv reception in the area and possibly disrupting aircraft communication !!! This is illegal and very dangerous so please keep the front part of the circuit as it is. I am not responsible for any consequences of using this or similar circuit. Schematic of stand growth pattern This schematic illustrates the logistic growth function that characterizes most forest stands. Early in life, stand-level growth is fast. The growth rate slows as the growing space is occupied and trees become more and more crowded and have to compete more intensely for resources. This general pattern of growth, combined with higher carbon emissions associated with mortality in the reserve stand, largely explains the almost four-fold difference in the rate of (net) carbon accumulation between the young aspen-spruce stand and the reserved stand across the road.
