bewitching blythe

I went to the Singapore Toys Games and Comics Convention on Sunday. And what was the booth I targetted the first? Blythe... of course.

I didn't take many photos, most of them were on my lomo, and the film has yet to be developed.

This was one of the customs on display, she was done really well (and she had a small black cat as a familiar... instant winner for me). Although I couldn't find her customiser's details displayed anywhere... If anyone was there and saw it please add it in the comments.

I'm in Vietnam, and we're affected by Taiwan's internet failure. I can only say I'm glad everything's working for now, I couldn't get on MSN at all yesterday.

Instant Mee Poh

My favourite Singaporean hawker dish is mee poh. I found the instant-noodle style version in Singapore and promptly brought a 5-pack to try. Very nice! (although taste nothing like the real hawker mee poh.

Marziya has come back and has taken my camera to shoot my friends and the streets ..

Advocate Ashish Shelar who builds a replica of the Temples of Maharashtra as his Ganpati Pandal is one of the finest human beings of our area.

Helping everyone in our time of need including me and he has always stood by me and my family and so I dont miss an opportunity to show you his mission of Peace Hope and Humanity.

He is veyr fond of Marziya as I am of his son Omkar a budding sportsman.

But his wife who I call Bhabiji too is a helping hand to the needy and poor of our area...the poor women some victims of domestic violence always find in her a person to fight for their human rights and she is always there for them like her husband leading from the front.

The Shelars are a very low profile couple down to earth have seen life at grass root level and dont play caste politics.

That is why kids in our area chant whenever there is social cause base morcha Desh Ka Neta Kaisa Ho Ashish Shelar Jaisa Ho ..

I am a totally apolitical man anything human touches me and the good of my city my state my country is the core essence of my photo blogs.

The final revelry

"Ganpati Visarjan",.... the final revelry when the Ganpati idol after a preset number of days of worship and celebration is immersed into a water body.

In my mind,... Mumbai has changed this ceremony from a simple act of lowering a Ganpati idol made of clay into a well near the house,.... to,.... a show of pomp and grandeur.

A few score-bunch of pics later, I chose to post this one where the drummers were merrily beating away to keep every one dancing. This was my most favourite as one can't imagine a revelry without these guys making all that din which was most of the time,.... rhythmic :)

Dutch-born actor Roland Varno (1908-1996) is best known for his role as one of the schoolboys in Der blaue Engel. He appeared in more German and Dutch films of the early 1930’s and he also worked in Hollywood as a character actor, mainly in B-pictures.

Roland (sometimes Rolant) Varno was born in Utrecht. At the end of the 1920’s he went to Berlin to work in the film industry and soon he won leading parts in the films Zwischen vierzehn und siebzehn - Sexualnot der Jugend (1929, E.W. Emo) and Jugendtragodie (1929, Alfred Trotz). His next role was in the German classic Der Blaue Engel (1930, Josef van Sternberg), which made Marlene Dietrich an international star. He played one of the pupils of Emil Jannings who secretly frequent Dietrich’s sleazy shows in The Blue Angel. Varno had next another supporting role in the popular Heinz Ruhmann comedy Der Mann, der seinen Morder sucht (1931, Robert Siodmak). In the Paramount studio in Joinville in France he played in De sensatie der toekomst (1931, Victor Buchowetzki, Jack Salvatori) a Dutch version of the French production Magie Moderne (1931, Dimitri Buchowetzki). He starred with Lien Deyers and Dolly Bouwmeester in this SF detective film about the new phenomenon television - the 'sensation of the future'. Roland Varno returned to Hollywood but for years he only found bit roles, often uncredited. He played a spy in s short film by Fred Zinnemann, While America Sleeps (1939). More supporting roles followed in the Nelson Eddy musical Balalaika (1939, Reinhold Schunzel), the war drama Mystery Sea Raider (1940, Edward Dmytryk), another war drama Underground (1941, Vincent Sherman) and the western Valley of Hunted Men (1942, John English). He had his first major screen credit in The Return of the Vampire (1944, Lew Landers), starring Bela Lugosi and Nina Foch. Varno was fluent in several languages and during WW II, he was placed in the Office of Strategic Services and appeared in several propaganda movies, including The Unwritten Code (1944, Herman Rotsten). In this offbeat, better-than-average war drama Ann Savage and Tom Neal were top-billed, but Varno was the central character. Wireless Bliss.

This is my new computer setup, and I must say I quite like it. See the next photo for an explanation of what's there. One of the things I like most is the lack of wires. With wireless internet, printing, iTunes over AirTunes, bluetooth keyboard and mouse and bluetooth phone/pda synchronization I rarely have to touch a cable other than the macbook's power cable. It all just works so well. Thanks Apple!

Canada’s answer to the ‘Madchester’ scene of the early 1990s, Sloan, played the pop game with gusto. In the photo shoot for the feature, it was pants down and prayer hands to an unseen religious icon.

In 1994 a huge schism had grown in Canada between youth and the wider media. Young people were not reflected anywhere and their views were ignored. That is, until Watch Magazine exploded onto the streets of Toronto and into the halls of the city’s high schools. I was hired by Youth Culture to be the Editor-in-Chief for this unique business: a magazine staffed by high school students but covering the wider worlds of pop music, culture, fashion, politics and the arts.

Another from a series I took one fabulous day and night at the beach at Torrey Pines Park. Instead of fog which often happens there were high soft cirrus clouds to diffuse the light into a rainbow of red, gold, purple and blue shades on the quiet Pacific. It was one of those dream sunset moments that is like having a drink of fine wine or kissing your lover the first time. You savor every moment and save it in your soul. California has its up and down moments with earthquakes, traffice, fire and more but then we have those perfect days that remind us why we came to stay or visit.

52 Inspirations, Week-17 - Me, Myself & I

Week 17 of 2011, and the theme for the 52 Inspirations kit was Me, Myself, and I. This photo -- one of the few which I have of myself -- was taken in 2007 and I have already scrapped it for "my most unfavorite thing".

I decided to purchase the 52 Inspirations subscription from Oscraps.com since the kits come with their own weekly suggestions for a scrapbook topic. They definitely seem to be lending themselves to an "All About Me" album, so I think I'll be taking that approach. I didn't discover 52 Inspirations until recently, so I'm getting a late start. I figured I'd just plunge right it at the current week and keep up as the year goes on. As I have time, I'll go back and work on pages for weeks 1-16.

Journaling reads:
"I don't like to have my picture taken. For a long time, I have laughingly said that one reason why I spend so much money on cameras is so that I can stand behind them instead of in front of them.

"As I have begun scrapping more of the family photos, I've become so aware of the fact that I'm not in very many of them -- and if I want my grandchildren and great-grandchildren to know more about me, I need to leave all kinds of memories, including photographs of me.

"This picture was taken about 5 years ago when a new manager asked each employee to send a photograph so that he would be able to recognize us if we ever met in person."

Lionfish
So beautiful and yet poisonous.

I really like this photo of this Lionfish. I took it at The Aquarium at Moody Gardens, Galveston, TX. I really like it because it turned out pretty good for the conditions. You cannot use flash at The Aquarium, and through glass many of my photos don't turn out like I want them to. The background of the photo turned out black, which I thought gave it a dramatic effect. And the Lionfish turned out in focus, somewhat difficult with no flash. In the immortal words of Bob Ross, some things are "happy accidents".

Journaling reads:
The Lionfish, also known as the Turkey, Dragon and Scorpion Fish, is famous for its stunning fins and spines. These spines are poisonous, and thus the fish must be handled with respect and care. The body is crossed vertically with dark brick red bands. The eye is hidden by the color pattern beneath a pair of hornlink growths. The first spines of the dorsal fin are patterned with light and dark markings.
