Poster filma "Nausikaja" iz 1984.Izraz za svaki animirani film ili seriju iz Japana. Često prepoznatljiv stil animacije likova s velikim očima i povremeno ozbiljnijeg i ambicioznijeg sadžaja za odrasle. Mnogi anime uratci su adaptacije tzv. Manga. Anime ostvarenja se objavljuju u kinu, na televiziji ili na videu i DVD tržištu ( tzv. OVA anime = Only Video Animation ) i danas su po svijetu već stekla veliku slavu. HIM, an alternative rock band from Finland, was formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Hermanni Valo, along with Mikko Viljami "Linde" Lindström and Mikko Heinrik Julius "Migč" Paananen. The band started as a Black Sabbath cover band, and the name HIM originally stood for His Infernal Majesty; Ville Valo denies any Satanic intent. After many lineup changes, the band now consists of Valo, Linde, Migé, their 3rd Keyboardist Janne Johannes "Burton" Purttinen, and their 2nd drummer Mika Kirstian "Gas" Karppinen. The band is also widely recognizable by their heartagram design. It consists of a heart and a pentagram, which symbolizes the contrast between life and death or love and hate or even love and death together. Ville has also said that "the heartagram stands for HIM as a band, as an entity, and for 'love metal' in general." Despite a common misconception perpetuated by their sign, HIM is not a satanic band. Valo claims the band is a "gothic love metal band." Biography Early years (1996-1999) The bands EP titled 666 Ways to Love: Prologue was released in 1996 in Scandinavia. The album features the only publically known picture of vocalist Ville Valo's mother Anita. The cover of the Chris Isaak song "Wicked Game" sparked their popularity in Finland. The band performed in English, which was quite different than most bands in the area. HIM's first full length album, Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666 was released in 1997 and gave the band significant exposure in the Scandinavian and German regions. The album included hit tracks such as "Wicked Game" (Chris Isaak Cover) and "When Love And Death Embrace". Sanna-June Hyde (Linde's girlfriend) and Asta Hannula provided guest vocals on the songs "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and "For You". The album was recorded at Finnovox, MD and Peacemakers in Helsinki, Finland. Hilli Hilliesmaa, the producer of their EP 666 Ways to Love: Prologue returned to produce this album as well. A special edition German package included the song "Stigmata Diaboli" taken from their EP. Rise to fame (2000-2003) The groups second album, Razorblade Romance was released on January 24, 2000. This album is what made HIM huge in Europe, especially Germany. The song and later-to-be single "Join Me in Death" is indirectly responsible for much of the attention. The song was featured in the sci-fi movie The Thirteenth Floor and reached #1 on the German sales charts. The now-platinum song is currently the biggest selling single in Finnish music history. The album was released in the US under the name of HER, by Jimmy Franks Recording Company (owned by Bloodhound Gang's Jimmy Pop). The name "HER" was used, because of a Jazz band in Chicago named H.i.M. that was not willing to give up the rights to their name. But eventually, HIM bought the rights and are now allowed to use their name in the United States and can release albums under it. The United States "HER" versions were released in the Boston area. Once the rights were bought the current copies were pulled and the re-released copies of Razorblade Romance were released nationwide under Universal Records. Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights, the band's third studio album, was released on August 27, 2001. This was the first album to feature the new keyboarder Burton. Initially the album was greeted with strong criticism of the songs' being "too American", though the band members have denounced these attacks. The special Digipak version includes two bonus tracks, "You Are The One" and "In Love and Lonely". The Christmas edition of the album was released with the three bonus tracks "Again", "In Joy And Sorrow (String Version)" and "Pretending (Cosmic Pope Jam Version)". Breaking the US market While the group's second and third albums were released in the US, the band didn't get a huge following until the release of their fourth studio album, Love Metal. The album, which was released on April 14, 2003, was well received by the media and further popularized by the Jackass stuntman Bam Margera who publicly displayed obsession with the band. This is the first album that does not feature Ville Valo on the cover; instead, the band's logo, the Heartagram, is displayed. The regular edition of the album was not released in the US until February 1, 2005 under Universal Records, licensed by Jimmy Franks Recording Company. The band's fifth album, Dark Light, was released on September 26, 2005 internationally and on September 27, 2005 in the United States. A new producer, Andy Wallace, was originally supposed to mix and produce the album. However, vocalist Ville Valo stated that Wallace made the band sound too "American" and fired him. A new producer, Tim Palmer, was hired. Palmer had previously worked with the band on 'Love Metal' and 'And Love Said No'. "Rip Out The Wings of a Butterfly" was released as a single. The album reached #18 in both the US and the UK. In Germany "Dark Light" reached #4. In an interview on the HIM video collection, Valo confesses the band does stand for His Infernal Majesty. The name was taken from a horror theme, much like one of the band's main influences, Black Sabbath. Genre Controversy The US Media in particular has frequently labeled the band as being part of the Gothic Rock subgenre. This is primarily due to the popularity of the band amongst Gothic teenagers and social groups. Valo himself has denied this statement and classifies the group as being "Love Metal". Valo has also been known to classify it as Scandinavian Blues. Most respectable critics like to classify the group as being Alternative Rock/Alternative Metal. Detractors of the group often label them as emo due much to their emotional based lyrics and generally softer music. Fans of the band usually argue that this is a misconception. Trivia The band's manager, Seppo Vesterinen, is also the manager of The Rasmus and has worked with Hanoi Rocks, a 1980s (though still going strong) glam rock band that was for a long time the most internationally successful Finnish band. HIM is the favorite band of professional skateboarder Bam Margera and fellow Singaporean Elfie Sain. Bam’s house is decorated with a huge heartagram and he has the same tattoos on his lower stomach, arm and wrist as Ville Valo. HIM has appeared several times on his TV show, Viva La Bam and in his movies, CKY. Hence, HIM is associated with "skate-music" in the States. Thus HIM is believed to have suffered over-exposure. Juliette Lewis (Actress and singer for Juliette and the Licks) appeared in the video for "Buried Alive by Love", which was directed by Bam Margera. Though he tries to hide his real identity by using Pus Sypope as pseudonym, band's drummer Gas (Mika Karppinen) is actually the masked blast-beating percussionist of the gore-inspired Finnish extreme metal band To Separate The Flesh From The Bones. The band HIM is also really close to another goth rock band The 69 Eyes and Ville Valo is also seen providing vocals on some of their songs. Lordi is a melodic theatrical heavy-rock band from Finland. They are mostly known for their unusual monster costumes and lyrical themes. The monster costumes are such an integral part of Lordi's publicity image that they refuse to be photographed or even interviewed without them. Cradle of Filth is an English band formed in 1991. The subject of their particular subgenre has engendered much discussion and they have been embraced and disowned with equal fervour by various metal communities, although recent consensus seems to have settled on symphonic black metal with a strong gothic metal influence. Their sound has gradually evolved from raw, traditional black metal, to a cleaner and more "produced" symphonic tone, and this increased accessibility has brought them coverage by Kerrang! and MTV and in turn, a more commercial image. After the band's formation came a period of rapid line-up fluctuation (which has continued ever since) as four demos were recorded. They eventually signed to Cacophonous and released The Principle of Evil Made Flesh in 1994. Their relationship with the label was acrimonious and the band signed to Music For Nations in 1996 after only one more contractually obligated Cacophonous release: the hastily written and recorded EP Vempire… or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein. Dusk and Her Embrace followed the same year: a critically acclaimed album that greatly expanded the band's fan-base throughout Europe and the rest of the world. As the band became known for increasingly theatrical stage shows, Cruelty and the Beast - a concept album based on the legend of the "Blood Countess" Elizabeth Bathory - was released to even greater acclaim, though sales were poor. The following year the band continued primarily to tour, but did put out a video, PanDaemonAeon, and an accompanying EP, From the Cradle to Enslave, featuring the music from the production. The title track of the EP remains one of the band's best-known songs. The band produced their fourth full-length studio album the following year. Midian was based around the Clive Barker novel Cabal and its subsequent film adaptation Nightbreed, and was fittingly released on Hallowe'en night 2000. Their most accessible album to date, it saw Paul Allender joining the lineup on guitars, but was still by no means mainstream, featuring titles such as "Lord Abortion" and another cult favourite, "Her Ghost in the Fog", which found its way onto the soundtrack of the movie Ginger Snaps. Their sound at this point remained uncompromising but was becoming increasingly melodic, complemented as always by Dani’s verbose lyrics. Following the moderate success of Midian Cradle released a "transition mini-album" (as lead singer and front man Dani Filth later referred to it) Bitter Suites to Succubi, which included "Born in A Burial Gown". The album was released on the band’s own ‘’Abracadaver’’ label, and was a mixture of four new songs, re-recordings of three songs from The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, two instrumental tracks, and a cover of The Sisters of Mercy's "No Time To Cry." Whilst stylistically similar to Midian the album is regarded as a failure by most critics, though it remains a favourite among fans. In 2003 they signed with Sony Music and produced their fifth full-length studio album, Damnation and a Day; major label funding finally allowing a real orchestra into the studio (The 80-strong Budapest Film Orchestra and Choir) and thus Cradle's belated gestation into full-blown symphonic metal. Though it disappointed some fans, this concept album - showing the events of the Bible through the eyes of Lucifer and inspired by John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost - featured the band’s most complex compositions to date, and also produced at least two videos on MTV2 - videos and MTV appearances being a rarity for the band ("From the Cradle to Enslave" had been banned from daytime MTV). Cradle's many detractors claim that they are no longer playing "true" black metal music. The band, however, who left Sony for Roadrunner Records near the beginning of 2004, claim their most recent album Nymphetamine (released summer 2004) as their return to actual black metal. Dani Filth says that it is stylistically half-way between Cruelty and the Beast and their previous full length album Damnation and a Day. While many view the subject as an irrelevance, Cradle of Filth’s "true" black metal status has been in hot debate since near the time they became popular. Their format differs somewhat from most Norwegian black metal - which has led to them being deemed melodic black metal - and the Norwegian black metal community generally shuns them along with bands such as Dimmu Borgir, whose pseudo-mainstream success followed in Cradle’s wake. Some critics have labelled them and similar bands "extreme gothic metal" (although the term is not widely accepted) as their music draws inspiration from gothic metal, gothic rock and deathrock. However the band's willingness to push the genre envelope means they continue to resist definitive categorisation. They are audibly influenced by Iron Maiden, have collaborated on projects like Christian Death's Born Again Anti-Christian album (on the track "Peek-A-Boo"), and have even dabbled outside of metal music with their controversial dance remixes ("Twisting Further Nails", "Pervert's Church" etc), although these have fallen by the wayside in recent years. Cradle’s drummer Adrian Erlandsson disagrees with the black metal categorization and describes Cradle of Filth as extreme metal, due to the fact they sound nothing like bands such as Darkthrone, Immortal, Bathory, etc. Dani Filth’s position on the band’s genre is that "Cradle of Filth is Cradle of Filth."   |

Tales of the dead craving blood are ancient in nearly every culture around the world. Vampire-like spirits called the Lilu are mentioned in early Babylonian demonology, and the bloodsucking Akhkharu even earlier in the Sumerian mythology. These female demons were said to roam during the hours of darkness, hunting and killing newborn babies and pregnant women. One of these demons, named Lilitu, was later adapted into Jewish demonology as Lilith. Lilitu/Lilith is sometimes called the mother of all vampires. The Ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet in one myth became full of blood lust after slaughtering humans and was only sated after drinking alcohol colored as blood. In Homer's Odyssey, the shades that Odysseus meets on his journey to the underworld are lured to the blood of freshly sacrificed rams, a fact that Odysseus uses to his advantage to summon the shade of Tiresias. Roman tales describe the strix, a nocturnal bird that fed on human flesh and blood. The Roman strix is the source of the Romanian vampire, the Strigoi and the Albanian Shtriga, which also show Slavic influence [citation needed]. In early Slavic folklore, a vampire drank blood, was afraid of (but could not be killed by) silver and could be destroyed by cutting off its head and putting it between the corpse's legs or by putting a wooden stake into its heart. Medieval historians and chroniclers Walter Map and William of Newburgh recorded the earliest English stories of vampires in the 12th century. Many vampire legends also bear similarities to legends regarding succubi or incubi. When the coffin of an alleged vampire was opened, people sometimes found the cadaver in a relatively undecomposed state, which could have been interpreted as the corpse being the equivalent of a well-fed vampire. Another reason to believe that a body is a vampire that has fed on the living is the strange illusion that the hair, nails, and teeth have grown [5]. It is a well known phenomenon that after death the skin and gums lose fluids and contract, exposing the roots of the hair, nails, and teeth, even teeth that were concealed in the jaw. [6] Folkloric accounts almost universally represent the alleged vampire as having ruddy or dark skin, not the pale skin of vampires in literature and film. In the past, people were often malnourished and therefore thin in life, which could account for the pale skin often referred to. Corpses swell as gases from decomposition accumulate in the torso and blood tries to escape the body. During decomposition blood can often be seen emanating from nose and mouth, which could give the impression that the corpse was a vampire who had been drinking blood. Natural processes of decomposition, absent embalming, tend to darken the skin of a corpse — hence the black, blue, or red complexion of the folkloric vampire. Decomposition also contorts the body into positions other than that which it was laid to rest, adding to the illusion that the corpse has been active after death. Elizabeth Báthory (married Elizabeth Nádasdy, Alžbeta Bátoriová-Nádašdy in Slovak, Báthory Erzsébet in Hungarian, August 7?, 1560 - August 21, 1614), the Bloody Lady of Čachtice, was a Slovak countess. She lived in Čachtice (Csejte in Hungarian) castle near Trenčín, in present-day Slovakia. She is considered the most famous serial killer in Slovak and Hungarian history. She spent most of her life at the Čachtice Castle. She and her alleged four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing numerous girls and young women (20 - 2000 victims, depending on the source. It is rumoured that she documented each death in her diary, totalling to 612 entries)[citation needed]. In 1610, she was imprisoned in solitary confinement, where she stayed until her death four years later. Her nobility permitted her to avoid an immediate execution. However, her alleged collaborators were executed. Various legends about her life, including the idea that she bathed in or drank the blood of servant girls, are thought by some to have been the origin of numerous vampire myths, the Dracula story, and the trope of the sexually sadistic vampiress in particular. She has a few historical nicknames, "The Blood Countess" and "Countess Dracula" because she was a possible model for Bram Stoker's vampire character. Historical legends describe a wide variety of methods for becoming a werewolf. One of the simplest was the removal of clothing and putting on a belt made of wolf skin, probably a substitute for the assumption of an entire animal skin which also is frequently described. In other cases the body is rubbed with a magic salve. To drink water out of the footprint of the animal in question or to drink from certain enchanted streams were also considered effectual modes of accomplishing metamorphosis. Olaus Magnus says that the Livonian werwolves were initiated by draining a cup of specially prepared beer and repeating a set formula. Ralston in his Songs of the Russian People gives the form of incantation still familiar in Russia. It is also said that the seventh son of the seventh son will become werewolf. Another is to be directly bitten by a werewolf, where the saliva enters the blood stream. In Galician, Portuguese and Brazilian folklore, it is the seventh of the sons (but sometimes the seventh child, a boy, after a line of six daughters). This belief was so extended in Northern Argentina, that seventh sons were abandoned, ceded in adoption or killed. A law from 1920 decreed that the President of Argentina is the godfather of every seventh son. Thus, the State gives him a gold medal in his baptism and a scholarship until his 21st year. This ended the abandonments, but it is still traditional that the President godfathers seventh sons. Various methods also existed for removing the beast-shape. The simplest was the act of the enchanter (operating either on himself or on a victim), and another was the removal of the animal belt or skin. To kneel in one spot for a hundred years, to be reproached with being a werewolf, to be saluted with the sign of the cross, or addressed thrice by baptismal name, to be struck three blows on the forehead with a knife, or to have at least three drops of blood drawn have also been mentioned as possible cures. Many European folk tales include throwing an iron object over or at the werewolf, to make it reveal its human form. In other cases the transformation was supposed to be accomplished by Satanic agency voluntarily submitted to, and that for the most loathsome ends, in particular for the gratification of a craving for human flesh. "The werwolves," writes Richard Verstegan (Restitution of Decayed Intelligence, 1628), "are certayne sorcerers, who having annoynted their bodies with an oyntment which they make by the instinct of the devil, and putting on a certayne inchaunted girdle, doe not onely unto the view of others seeme as wolves, but to their owne thinking have both the shape and nature of wolves, so long as they weare the said girdle. And they do dispose themselves as very wolves, in wourrying and killing, and most of humane creatures." Such were the views about lycanthropy current throughout the continent of Europe when Verstegan wrote. The ointments and salves in question may have contained hallucinogenic agents. WEREWOLFS Becoming a werewolf simply by being bitten by another werewolf as a form of contagion is common in modern fiction, but rare in legend, in which werewolf attacks seldom left the victim alive to transform. |
