Concrete Floor Radiant Heat
- We use 3500 psi concrete with fibermesh reinforcement, vapor barrier, and expansion joints. We also offer aprons, sidewalks, and other concrete you need poured while the truck is there.
- Thermal radiation is electromagnetic radiation emitted from a material which is due to the heat of the material, the characteristics of which depend on its temperature. An example of thermal radiation is the infrared radiation emitted by a common household radiator or electric heater.

Ground floor
This is the old barn floor where the 8 animal stalls were. The concrete floor has water based radiant heat in it. The ceder posts and the pine beams are original. The ceiling down here is the old barn floor from above.

Although my friend David Buten wanted a a townhouse in the center of Philadelphia’s Center City, he did not have enough money.
He found a ‘trinity’ property (3 floors 15 ft x 15 ft with a 15 ft back yard).
I convinced him to buy it along with the property behind it facing another street.
I told him I would design his house and a separate unit in the rear property so that it’s rent would pay his mortgage.
My design for his house excavated under both houses to add another floor and added an extension into the back yards.
David’s house occupies 4 floors on the north side and the basement floor under both buildings with a courtyard between
What It's Like at My House During Balloon Fiesta
When we chose the floor plan for our new house five years ago, my husband and I were most taken with the walk-in closet off the master bathroom. After living for nearly 15 yrs in a house with virtually NO closets, we were delighted with one that was so huge. Not only would it hold all our clothes (and neither of us are clothes horses), but I could put a hamper in it and still have room for a chair under the narrow window high in the wall. Neighbors can't look in, and it lets in lots of natural light so I can dress in the morning . . .
UNTIL Balloon Fiesta time. There have been mornings where I've either given some balloonist a thrill--or made him toss up his breakfast burrito (probably the latter).

Urban Dance Floor Guerillas
In terms of pure collective talent, Urban Dancefloor Guerillas, the 1983 debut recording of the P-Funk All-Stars, ranks amongst the most impressive album rosters ever assembled. True to their name, the All-Stars were comprised mainly of alumni from George Clinton's two legendary groups, Parliament and Funkadelic, including Bootsy Collins, Garry Shider, Eddie Hazel and Walter June Morrison. Along with them, Clinton recruited the likes of Sly Stone, Bobby Womack, Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley for this sprawling, ambitious excursion into post-70s funk. "Copy Cat" serves as a worthy counterpart to Atomic Dog, with the familiar thick, drooping bass and layered orchestration, but Clinton and his crew also explore different musical territory, as heard on the subterranean groove of "Hydraulic Pump" and funky doo-wop sway of One of Those Summers. Despite the large collection of musicians, the album plays with a cohesiveness and contagious energy indicative of a group that's been together for years, and can be considered a true classic of the genre. In continuing their ongoing series of high quality reissues, Get On Down is proud to present the definitive reissue of P-Funk All-Stars debut Urban Dancefloor Guerillas, with a new audio transfer from the original master tapes and packaged in a six-panel digipak. Such a lovely lovely day. Because the loveliest days are spent with Sam and Sarah. I drove out to get Sarah from her college, and drove her back home. We met Sam for lunch, only to be stopped by a parade of dogs marching through the city. We finally found parking, I parallel parked like a boss, and we went to lunch. I adore Jimmy John's for their good food and inability to kick us out after several hours. Then we walked around the Saturday Market for a bit. And went and climbed the parking garage to the top floor. Then wandered in Urban Outfitters and then went to Tully's for a bit. Then we went into a hotel and went to the top floor, then realized there were four more floors above it (to make up for the lack of a fifth floor maybe?), entered a hotel room, ran from the cleaning lady, and left. I had shot a roll of film, so I convinced them to go to Costco. We waited an hour for the prints to be developed, but they wouldn't sell them to me. Stupid. I'll pick them up on Sunday then, I guess. We went and picked up my car, then went to Sarah's house. There we tumblr stalked people, played Indian poker (which sounds quite racist now), made frozen pizza, failed at CoD MoD (did I say that right Sam?), and just hung out. It's days like these I want to remember forever.
Today I was smart and took my picture before leaving.
Shiny nylon raincoat
I went past a small block of flats and decided to walk past the garages at the rear where the bins are stored. I've found many items here in the past. There were 2 very attractive girls in their 20's loading their car with suitcases and household items from one of the garages. I heared one of them mention a bag of old clothes she sorted out to go to the charity shop. The other girl asked with interest if she could look through the bag. One by one the contents were examined and thrown onto the floor. She laughed and described this raincoat as a shiny flashers mac. They then went back into the garage so I couldn't hear them. A few minutes later, they emerged, the owner then picked up all the clothes and the bin liner they were in and threw the lot in a bin. These are the items I rescued.

2002 - 24' Carson FunRunner Toy Hauler
I ordered this 24 foot Toy Box custom-made locally by Carson Trailer Inc. to be used as a mobile photography studio.
It’s only been taken out short distances within San Diego County a few times and has never left the pavement or city streets.
It doesn’t look more than a year old and is completely self-contained with 4K Generator & extra large 32 Gallon Fuel Tank.
It does not have any furniture such as dinettes or beds so it would be excellent for hauling oversized vehicles inside or creating your own floor plan. Dinettes/beds can be added very easily and aren’t that expensive but I preferred to put down a comfortable airbed and set up tables & chairs where I wanted them whenever I spent the night in the trailer.
Early Studio Adventures
Every weekend for the past month I've been doing something towards re-insulating the loft at home. Taking many car loads of stuff to Big Yellow storage, ripping up the loft floor or clearing dust, dirt, broken slates and all manor of junk, some left by the previous owners. At times I've felt like an archaeologist in my own home, uncovering gems from the past.
Photography's taken a back seat, with only planning for a number of SP's going on in my head while getting the job done.
This was from a shoot over twenty years back that I'd totally forgotten about, one of many prints, negs and slides hidden away in a storage box.

Llewellins & James Castle Green BS1

At the beginning ot the eighteenth century a small group ot foundrymen and machinists started a business in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, and in 1735 they moved to 81 Temple Street. By 1832, ownership transferred to Peter Llewellin and in 1846 the business moved to Castle Green. In the mid-1850s, the name of the business became Llewellins & James. Following a severe fire in 1875, the Georgian Castle Green premises were extensively rebuilt within two years in the Bristol Byzantine style. By 1889 the company was the largest brass foundry in Bristol and in 1906 it became a limited company.
By the 1930s the workforce was approximately 200 (in 1940, there were only two female employees, both teenage typists) and the company was involved in a varied type of work. At their own premises this included the manufacture of beer pumps, hose fittings, taps, copper milk-condensing tanks (6ft diameter, 8ft high thick), hemispherical copper double-skinned pans used in jam-making, tar and bitumen spraying machines used for road maintenance, tanks called 'mash tuns' used in sauce-making and vats for breweries (at one time the company had a vat department at 41 City Road).
During their quiet periods employees made 'foreigners', such as candlesticks, brass ornaments and jewellery' for their own use. As well as work at the premises, the company was involved in a considerable amount of work away: maintenance work at breweries, pubs, dairies and ships (at Bristol and Swansea docks).
During the Depression of the 1930s, employees only worked two days one week, one day the next. Employees were not paid for holidays or when the premises were closed for its annual shutdown (usually the first week in August). Pay days were on Fridays when the money was issued in a round tin (3in in diameter), with the employee's clock number on the lid.
The names of some of the staff in the 1930s included Henry Wethered (Director, brother of Judge Wethered), Charles Palmer (Director), Norman Driver (Salesman), Charlie Candlin (Coppersmith), Bill Kease (Furnaceman), R. Green-Armitage (Director), Doris Johnson (Typist), Myra Luton (Typist), Len Hawkes (Warehouseman), Ken Pettier (Apprentice Draughtsman), William Caple and the brothers Bill and Jim McKeown.
Work undertaken by Llewellins & James of particular local interest was the repair (or possible recast) of one of the nails outside the Corn Exchange in Corn Street and the casting of replacement quarterjacks which flank the clock on Christ Church in Broad Street.
Llewellins & James operated an unusual form of employment - when the company was asked to quote a price for a job, the Director responsible would ask particular senior employees to give their price and the job was awarded to the successful senior employee, who then 'employed' the relevant staff to do the job.
Within the Castle Green premises there was living accommodation for the caretaker, who at the time of the blitz in November 1940 was Charlie Lovell (his brother, Tom, and two sons, Gordon and Douglas, also worked for Llewellins & James). This was above the haulingway off Cock and Bottle Lane (opposite the Star pub), the entrance being through a separate door next to a double-wooden door entrance to the foundry. Beyond this door was a hallway with stairs which led to the accommodation (three bedrooms, lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom) on the first and second floors.
From here there was the access to the whole roof area of the main building and you could overlook Castle Street. It was provided rent free, gas and electricity also being included free of charge.
Like many buildings in Castle Green the outside of the premises of Llewellins & James never appears to have been photographed, only tantalising glimpses of parts appearing in pictures of other buildings. From these glimpses, old plans and the recollections of former employees, it has been possible to piece together orthographic elevations which represent, as accurately as possible, the building in 1940 — In 1940, each floor of the premises was occupied as follows:
Basement — This contained the foundry, a large steam-driven engine (which drove machinery on the floor above) and a stockroom. Two wells, which originally belonged to Bristol Castle, supplied water used for cooling the molten metal. The ceiling was just above ground floor level and there were small windows (above 1ft high) which, outside the building, were at pavement level, enabling people to look into the basement (they were protected by metal grilles or bars). Rats were plentiful in the basement and it was not unusual for staff to encourage them into the molten metal!
Ground - The main entrance was in Castle Green, two large sliding doors allowing vehicle access. All staff entered here, the clocking-in machine being near the sales office on the left. There was also an entrance in Coc

This last takes place in the open air, on the roof where a banked reinforced concrete racetrack has been provided, on an area measuring 1680 feet by 260 feet. At the ends the banking to this track rises some 15 feet in 55 feet and this activation of the roof, together with its highly sculptural form was to inspire Le Corbusier’s conception of the roofscape for his Unite apartment block built at Marseilles in 1952.”

[My grandfather had been one of the few that succeeded in returning home by foot from Russia, after the defeat in WWII... 100000 others died during that walk. Before and after the war he worked here, at the presses, in a work environment that now would be considered homicidal. He died of throat cancer just before my birth... as many others that worked in such an environment.
His wife, my grandmother, was working at the fourth floor, sewing upholsteries...
It is a bit strange for me to see this structure converted in a shopping center, although full of historical references and art... but the world must go on...]

New house!
So we're obviously not moved into our new house yet. Eventually there will be a couch instead of a bike. But check out my new floor! When we looked at the house it was old, nasty carpeting. My landlord pulled up all the carpet and refinished the hardwood and I couldn't be more happy! Isn't it gorgeous? <3

Italy's rubber-faced funnyman Roberto Benigni accomplishes the impossible in his World War II comedy Life Is Beautiful: he shapes a simultaneously hilarious and haunting comedy out of the tragedy of the Holocaust. An international sensation and the most successful foreign language film in U.S. history, the picture also earned director-cowriter-star Benigni Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor. He plays the Jewish country boy Guido, a madcap romantic in Mussolini's Italy who wins the heart of his sweetheart (Benigni's real-life sweetie, Nicoletta Braschi) and raises a darling son (the adorable Giorgio Cantarini) in the shadow of fascism. When the Nazis ship the men off to a concentration camp in the waning days of the war, Guido is determined to shelter his son from the evils around them and convinces him they're in an elaborate contest to win (of all things) a tank. Guido tirelessly maintains the ruse with comic ingenuity, even as the horrors escalate and the camp's population continues to dwindle--all the more impetus to keep his son safe, secure, and, most of all, hidden. Benigni walks a fine line mining comedy from tragedy and his efforts are pure fantasy--he accomplishes feats no man could realistically pull off--both of which have drawn fire from a few critics. My cousin Joe Fourdyce married Tana Trapp 5/17/08 at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque, IA. My parents shot some using my old camera and Amy grabbed my camera several times throughout the day so I could be in some of the pics too. All told, we shot around 800 frames that weekend. Which may have been more frames than their hired photographer did. :-)

This barracuda was hanging out under the boat. It made it very difficult to take a pic because of the lack of sunlight. I had to modify the white balance and colors just to get this pic to show up. But I think it turned out nice. I also got to see this one teleport from under the boat to the sea floor after a fish. He missed though.
