seth tobias Vikram Seth - Digital Spy Forums Anybody read his books mainly - Suitable Boy and Equal Music???Was thinking of getting it I've read Suitable Boy and I adored it.
It's not a hard read but all enveloping and really interesting and page turning.
I keep meaning to read it again.
I loved Equal Music and cried at various points through it.
It was beautifully written and I recommended it to anyone in listening distance for weeks after I read it!
I saw Equal Music for about ÂŁ2:49 in Oxfam shop, a good bargain - gonna buy it I took Suitable Boy on holiday thinking I'd never read it.
But it's one of the easiest & most enjoyable books that I've ever read.
I didn't even notice the length & didn't want it to stop.
There are chapters with politics in which personally I found fascinating & not at all hard going.
But if that isn't your bag, then you can skip them without losing the plot.People I know who've read both say Suitable Boy is much more fun, but don't let that put you off Equal Music as he's certainly a fantastic writer & really I could read anything by him.
In fact you've inspired me to go & read SB again.
Loved, loved, loved A Suitable Boy.
I've not read Equal Music but I feel a visit to Amazon coming on now.
I know someone who's writng the screen adaptation of An Equal Music.
It's always harder to adapt books than people think.
Particularly when the book is a classic.
I liked 'A Suitable Boy' too - despite it being so long, I felt I could have kept reading about the (many) characters.
I have 'An Equal Music' on the shelf but haven't got round to reading it yet.
I'm another one who loved A Suitable Boy.
I've got An Equal Music on my tbr bookcase.
A Suitable Boy was an excellent read, a bit tedious at times since Seth really gets caught up in the minutae of every day life and politics in india across all the social classes.
Definitely worth a read.I also enjoyed his non fiction memoir - Two Lives, in fact i think that was better than A Suitable boy.
My Dad has suitable boy at home and I keep meaning to get stuck into it but the size is a bit of a put off.Now you guys have me really intrigued!!
I loved "A Suitable Boy" cried my eyes out at times.
Not read "Equal Music" but I do have a copy I loved "A Suitable Boy".
It would definitely be in my top 10 books I've ever read.It was a beautiful story, I took it on holiday with me year ago, and couldn't put the book down.
I normally would never lie on a beach all day, but I just couldn't stop reading the book.

It's one of the easiest reads for a book that large I've ever read.
Very short chapters help.
Suitable Boy is a great book - its length is never a problem, in fact its a shame when it ends because you want to find out what happens to the characters.Only problem is - the final Boy isn't the Suitable one in my opionion.
But to go into that would require too many spolier alerts.
I'll just repeat what evryone else has said "A Suitable Boy"is an excellent book and again i keep meaning to reread it again as well.
Though I've not read any of his others any reccomendations?
