Last year my husband was attacked by a pit bull. It was one of those moments that everyone hears about but not everyone experiences, where your whole life changes in an instant.
It has been such a difficult thing to get through and although most people think it's past us now, it's not that easy.
Our lives will never be the same, and sometimes I am just tired of the ups and downs.
Everything happens for a reason, and I do believe that. But, it doesn't always make things easier to handle.

This is a vintage aluminum Christmas tree with color wheel. I bought it on the day before Christmas Eve. I rearranged my living room so that it could be on display and I can see it from the couch. I love it!

I put pink & gold vintage tinsel on it. My grandmother had it in storage. It's not aluminum, but it's pretty cool.

Engine 142

No. 142 was built in the Peoples Republic of China in 1988 by the TangShan Locomotive Works. TangShan is the last place in the world still producing new steam engines. The locomotive resembles trains from an era long ago. The engine, with tender, weighs approximately 154 tons, including ten tons of coal and 6,000 gallons of water. The engine is hand-fired, which means someone has to shovel coal into the firebox to keep the fire hot enough to make steam. No. 142 is 14'6" high, 10'8" wide, and with tender, 75'3" long.

Originally, NYS&W was to receive a different engine from China....No. 141. But, while being shipped on the Norwegian freighter S.S. Braut, the vessel capsized in the Bay of Bengal (Indian Ocean). All of the vessel's cargo, including the 141, sank in 6,000 feet of water. To this day No. 141 remains at the bottom of the Bay. After sinking, the No. 142 was purchased from the Valley Railroad in Essex, Connecticut.

see: I was thinking of some way to have a kind of robotic light painter, something that could move the light around without having to be a person and risk getting the person in shot. so I made one with an R/C car and some tape and such.

I was testing it out in a parking lot, and it's got potential. Here: I've taken the six exposures I tried (each 30 seconds) and thrown them through photomatix, just because.

anyway: the crazy result is this picture. not sure if I'd say it works, as such, but it certainly did something.

Hawker Hunter - Miss Demeanour

G-PSST was originally built for the Royal Air Force as a mark F.4, XF947, back in 1956. Part of the first production batch of F.4s, XF947 was initially delivered to No.5 Maintenance Unit at Kemble in Gloucestershire before entering active service with No.3(Fighter) Squadron at RAF Geilenkirchen, Germany, as part of 2 ATAF (Allied Tactical Air Force). After a short period of time she was re-allocated to 229 Operational Conversion Unit at RAF Chivenor in Devon.
When XF947?s operational career with the RAF was over, she was transferred to the Fleet Air Arm at Arbroath (HMS Condor) as a Ground Instructional Airframe (number A2568) before being classed surplus to requirements and placed up for disposal.

So it was that she was purchased by Hawker Siddeley Aviation in 1971 as G-9-317 for conversion to a Mk58A as part of a contract for the Swiss Air Force.
Re-serialled as J-4104, she was delivered to the Swiss Air Force on 2nd February 1972 and spent most of her remaining military career as a target tug carrying the Swedish MBV-2S winch which was carried under the starboard wing.

In 1996 J-4104 was retired from military service for a second time, was sold to a private owner and ferried to the British Aerospace airfield at Dunsfold in Surrey, with a total of just 1659 hours on the airframe!
In 1997 she was acquired by Jonathon Whaley’s company, Heritage Aviation Developments Ltd, registered as G-PSST and was ferried across to Hurn Airport near Bournemouth to undergo restoration by Jet Heritage Ltd. Restoration was completed in mid-’98 and she was towed across the airfield to AIM Aviation for surface finishing at the end of the year. This was completed in January 1999 and she looked then just as you see her today.

Grinding the Rails----HD Video

Sony HX1---This special train had numerous grinding wheels, working to smooth down the rails, so more surface area would contact the wheels. This is especially important on upgrades. I've never seen this being done before.

Imagine my reaction, when I saw this noisy apparition coming round the bend, spewing sparks, flame and smoke. It seemed like it might be that often-mentioned "West-bound Freight", that symbolically carries the departed to their next destination. Only this one gave me the impression that it might be going to that other place.

Big Wheels

These wheels are about twice as big as the wheels I had on previously in every respect. It makes for a much smoother ride, but it also makes the setup super heavy.

I know this has been overdone, but I was running out of ideas.. plus, I had never done this by myself, so had to give it a shot. My wife agreed to "pose" for me.. I really wanted to do this by a body of water (puddle, pond, whatever), unfortunately, my wife got home late from work and the blue hour was just coming to an end, so had to find something nearby. I under estimated the power of sparks as some flew very far, luckily it didn't cause any damage. After about 10 minutes, the mosquitoes were eating us alive, so called it quits after 3 attempts. I later realized that I wasn't perfectly aligned behind my wife.... damn! Oh well...

I like the structure of the bridge here, but I also like the sparks in the second one, so posting two..

Blurred Motion

I took like a 1000 pictures at the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles, but mostly because I was so disappointed I didn't notice the very low lying cloud cover which meant I couldn't get my sunset photo I had hoped for under the pier. But kept shooting the Ferris Wheel and hoping to get some good shots that weren't blurred too much by the creeping waves. This was one of my favorite shots of the Ferris Wheel and a decent reflection too. I tried again the next day but the clouds were worse. Guess I gotta go back to LA to try again soon...

1984 Mazda 323 SS

This is my 323 SS with all options, including air con and electric sunroof, but using Ford suspension and mag wheels, Mazda 929 seats and a shortened gear stick. I tried a half race cam, but the rocker gear wasn't up to the challenge!
The head has been milled 1 mm, and ported, and uses Genie headers.
I took out the twin carbs, and it only uses the single carb now, but with the smaller jets from one of the twins.
The radiator is half covered by a sheet of aluminium to keep the engine warm, as without the cast-iron exhaust on the front it runs too cold in winter.

MGA Mine Rear

Photos of the eBay auction Rich won around August 15 2001. By 2010 the MGA looked much better and drove a little better. The door, dashboard and steering rack weren't used. The mag wheels didn't come with the MGA. There was no drive train neither. I basically replaced or rebuilt everything.

Desert Storm Trip Log - Day 2

Carrying on from where i left off from Day 1. After flagging off, there
was this period of confusion for me, of what exactly to do. Should i
look at the Speed chart or the tulips, or both? Full marks to MV for
bearing with me and his patience. Soon we settled into a pattern, and
our co-ordination and communication went on improving as the days went by.

One of the bikes being flagged off:

Little did i know that it was the beginning of the longest day, and that
it was going to turn out to be the toughest of the entire experience.
All was well till we approached a tulip called Leopard Country. There
due to an growing error with our GPS odometer, we took a wrong turn into
a forest. A couple of kilometers in the forest, we realised that the
tulips (landmarks to follow) were no longer matching, and took a U turn
out of the forest. On coming back to the main road, we met up with a
Santro who told us that the road ahead was blocked and the A Star guys
from Team RPM, Maruti Suzuki were having a different kind of adventure.
Turns out that the locals had heard a lot of cars passing by, and
mistook them to be dacoits. So they just fell a tree, and blocked the
entire road. A gang of 40-50 odd villagers, armed with axes, knives and
swords surrounded the competitors, and demanded an explanation. Its only
after a lot of pleading and cajoling that they were allowed to go.

In the meanwhile, we were struggling to find our way out of the forest.
By that time, 4-5 other cars had joined the party with everyone pointing
in different directions. It was @0200hrs, and comfortably cold. The poor
Punto took quite a beating here. This is where we lost the first of our
mud flaps, and the entire cladding of the rear left wheel arch. But hats
off to the engine guard, and the tank guard, none of the stones caused
any damage. The Punto is not just a looker, its tough too.

This is also where, we heard 'supposedly' big cat noises, saw jackals,
deer. Was an experience.
Here's the sights of the forest. This is where the road ended.

Since we had nothing else to do, we managed do do a little bit of
photography... :)

Eventually, we decided to turn back and restart the entire track. And
guess what? We had missed the actual turn by 15-20 meters. :-[ So much
for navigation!
Rest of the journey was a blur, since MV decided to make up for the lost
time. I distinctly remember a patch of twisties with around 9-10 hair
pin bends within meters of each other. The way we tackled that
particular patch would have made other cars wet their (umm..) radiators,
but the way Punto took it was really amazing. That car is a handler. I
remember holding (hanging) on to the handle with both hands, all the
while wishing that even i had a steering wheel to hold on to.
We also made our first friends of the trip while waiting for a free zone
to get over. We, along with Manish and Vishal, who were driving in a
Ford Fiesta, would then onwards form convoy of sorts when the rally got
over, and we were kind of coasting back to the hotel every day.

It was red bull that kept us awake and alert that night. But i am quite
sure, that even without red bull, there was hardly ever time to even
think of sleeping. there was so much to do! Calculations, re
calculations, navigation etc.

Soon, it was day break, and this is where i saw one of the most
beautiful sights of the entire trip. We had entered in a typical
Rajasthani village, with small houses, narrow roads, sand everywhere.
And Peacocks. I have seen peacocks only in zoos. And here, there were
peacocks on the road, on rooftops, on gates, and even on garbage dumps.
That is also when i found that peacocks are not that fast too. There
were many times when we had to slow down to let one of the majestic
national bird cross the road at their own pace. Damn! Why did the
peacock cross the road?
But this was one of the highlights of the trip, and this memory is
something i will never forget.

Eventually, after a gruelling night, we managed to reach Teja Garden,
totally tired, drained and happy to have completed the first leg. We had
a couple of hours to spare here. Once we had breakfast, and more than
3-4 cups of tea, we tried to have some shut-eye. Before we knew it, it
was time to go again. This particular leg was going to be quite short -
@100 kms, and we were looking forward to reach Gajner Palace near Bikaner.
