Cherry Wood Canopy Bed
- The wood of the Cherry Tree. At one time, a popular wood for making pipes from. Now only a few companies produce cherry wood pipes.
- Prunus is a genus of trees and shrubs, which includes the plums, cherries, peaches, apricots and almonds. Within the rose family Rosaceae, it was traditionally placed as a subfamily, the Prunoideae (or Amygdaloideae), but was sometimes placed in its own family, the Prunaceae (or Amygdalaceae).
- A bed frame with a canopy posted or hanging above. Originally used for protection against insects; today mostly decorative.
- A canopy bed is a decorative bed somewhat similar to a four poster bed. A typical canopy bed usually features posts at each of the four corners extending four feet high or more above the mattress.
- A bed supported by four tall posts with a cross members joining the posts that may be used for a supporting a fabric canopy cover, swags, curtains, etc. Find bedroom furniture.

I stand corrected! Thanks to parasol, who provided the following information:
Cherry wood cannons were built as makeshift weapons by Bulgarian craftsmen who took part of the April Uprising of 1876. Cherry wood is pretty hard, but in many cases it was of course not hard enough to keep a cannon from bursting under the pressure of firing it... That's the material Bulgarians had available at hand for the uprising. The uprising was tragically unsuccessful, but Bulgaria gained its independence two years later. The Bulgarian cherry wood cannon tradition was copied and used also in Macedonia in the Ilinden Uprising, 1903.
