To pull out your own teeth at times may be very tempting. There are situations when you just feel that is what you have to do. If you thought that only frustration can lead a person to want to take out his or her own teeth, you cannot be more correct. Frustration can force any living soul to do unimaginable and unreasonable things. If you have ever experience toothache, then you will understand what I mean. Toothache is among the most terrible pains. In such a position, you are then prepared to do just anything to make the pain go away. If you had pains caused by bad dental cavities or abscess, then you may be in for an even harder times because these pains do not relent easily. Centuries ago, the most common if not the only method of pulling out a tooth was by using a pair of pliers. They got the patients drunk by giving them large quantities of alcohol to drink, waited until the alcohol had took full control and then they would use a pair of pliers to extract the tooth. What did they had to go through just to remove a tooth? Back then, there were no dentists, nor did they know what anesthesia was. Today, we are lucky that we now have highly qualified oral surgeons and dentists as well as anesthesia that can be applied locally to ease the pain during teeth extractions. In some cases, you don't feel a thing until the teeth has been taken out. When Can You Pull Out Your Own Teeth?Oh yes, you can pull out your own teeth under certain the following circumstances. You must have a lot of guts in order to perform the procedure of removing your teeth all by yourself. A lot of people would cringe at the thought. Baby Teeth Ready To Come OffIf you still have baby teeth. Baby or deciduous teeth (I have also heard these teeth being referred to as milk teeth) are supposed to fall out anyway and be replaced by permanent or adult teeth. First, before you proceed to yank it out, you want to check on the age. You cannot remove a deciduous tooth that is not yet ready to come out. You will know whether you can or cannot by checking if it was loose or not. Gently wriggle the tooth and see whether the root is still holding it or not. If you feel it is loose enough, you can pull it out. Okay now, I don't expect an adult to still have baby teeth. Therefore, we are talking about children of between 5 to 7 years of age. If you are in this age group, I think it is better you let some adult person know about it before you pull the teeth out by yourself. You don't want to risk infection, do you? Better still. run straight to your dentists. It is a lot safer that way. Having Severe Gum DiseaseGum disease can cause the teeth to be loose at the socket. It can erode or eat away the bone, the teeth themselves and cause very bad tooth decay. In extreme cases, the teeth will be loose because gum disease had destroyed the tissue and the bone that held the teeth firm. In the end, you have a tooth that is suspended by a thin piece of tissue. This is another case where you have to do it carefully if you plan to take out the tooth on your own. If you are not careful, you may cause more damage to other teeth or even your jaw. One of the possibilities is the tooth breaking. If that happens, it will be very hard to remove, and you will have to go to a dentist for help. If you touched your tooth and you see it is loose, does that mean you can pull it out? Not necessarily. You have to understand that the teeth are very dedicate. A small mistake might end up giving you more trouble than the aching tooth itself. If anything becomes damaged due to unprofessional removal, you may end up having abscess. Also, if you put a pair of pliers into your mouth before you disinfect them, you risk the danger of dental infection. There are so many ifs. Therefore, in order to avoid asking yourself whether you should do this or that, you had better refer it to an appropriate person. To Pull Out Your Own Teeth Or Not?Maybe you can remove your baby teeth or a decayed tooth but removing your wisdom teeth no matter what is something you should never do. I will be straight with you. Do not do it unless you know what you are doing. Period! There are just too much at stake if you decided to do a dental extraction on your own without the expertise required. If anything goes wrong, you will have to see a dentist or an oral surgeon After all. Therefore, I repeat, don’t do it. Let the experts do their job and everybody will be safe and happy in the end. |
