Curse WRIC TV 8! Some dumb ass prime time movie/sporting event or another ran long this week and instead of preempting the local news, the epsiode of The Sheild they air before Soul Train, or the episode of Star Trek they air afterwards, they decide to only show half of this weeks episode, them useless cockwits. Go to www.wric.com and lodge a complaint.  (WRIC has been on a long downward slide since they fired John Reid as their weekday morning news anchor several years ago. But thats besides the point.)

Soul Train Scramble: Mary Bethune? I dont know, the episode started in the middle of  scramble board segment but the Soul Train Dancers grooved on down to Aint Nobody by Rufus and Chaka Kahn.

The Soul Train History book was opened to a mid 1970s clip of wric Jackson and the Jacksons singing Daddy Is Home To Stay complete with a Jermaine logo in the background instead of the usual Soul Train logo. I also have to admit that it was odd to see Michael Jackson relegated to the role of backup singer.

This weeks musical guest stars:

Jennifer Holliday! I know it would be very easy to mock Ms. Holliday  for her background in Broadway, her non pop star looks and the gold lame mu mu that she wore on this episode of Soul Train, but I decided to take the high road after hearing wric dedication in helping out younger talent which she laid out in her interview, and lets forget her powerful singing voice.  Dons simple comment of WOW! after her first song, I am Love, is sufficient enough of a compliment and one couldnt add anything more to say without covering the same ground. Ms Holliday pulled out all the stops with her 2nd song, Let Me Wait. Is there anything that she could not do with her voice?

Klique! Because of the programming geniuses at WRIC TV 8, I was only able to catch their second song called Burning Hot. It was your typical sounding early 1980s pre rap era R& B. They had some chops, but all the white leather outfits in the world couldnt make up for the fact that their group just did not have the x-factor to make them stand out from their peers.

The Soul Trian Line: Axels Theme from the movie, Beverly Hills Cop. Ah, brings back memories of the 2nd grade for me&

No Don Corneilus interview gaff of the week because the episode was cut short and he was very gracious to teh talented Jennifer Holliday.

That just did it for this weeks abbreviated episode, so as always, in parting, on the behalf of Don Cornelius, the Soul Train Dancers and myself: love, peace and SOUL!
