I used to crown my earliest Ktwangs with a little grinning creature head made of sculpey, with a strip of fun fur for a Mohawk. I'm starting construction of a new 'baby ktwang', a kid-sized model using a quart paint can and an E string, very high and sweet. When we made Ktwangs at Luther Burbank Middle School we used big lima bean cans from the cafeteria. I'll make two for kid duets; perhaps the sweetness of form and cuteness of player will somehow get past the fact that playing Ktwang duets is like herding cats. Seriously atonal.
Shaker
Daily Shoot 58: "Someone once said 'Music is what feelings sound like.' Make a photo of something musical to illustrate the quote today."
I learned a lot setting up my photo for the silhouette assignment the other day, so I thought I'd try it again today. This is a little shaker that my kids use to make noise music. The metal disks are dented and bent from years of abuse. Just looking at this makes me smile thinking of their energy and excitement as they dance around having fun.
