BIKE SUSPENSION FORK. SUSPENSION FORK
Bike Suspension Fork. Cervelo Tri Bikes. Rear Mounted Bicycle Rack
Bike Suspension Fork
- (Suspension forks) are mostly found on mountain bikes, but they are becoming increasingly common on commuter and recreation bikes. A good suspension fork will be light, and soak up bumps without compromising control and pedalling effort.
- bicycle: a wheeled vehicle that has two wheels and is moved by foot pedals
- A bicycle or motorcycle
- bicycle: ride a bicycle
- motorcycle: a motor vehicle with two wheels and a strong frame
my "new" forks
I got these 43mm Kayaba forks in the mail today. I paid like 150 bucks for them from ebay. Awesome seller. They are in GREAT shape. I can't believe it. I see worse forks on bikes that are two years old. These are seventeen! I'm gonna change the oil and put new seals. I was thinking of just sending them to RG3 already however, It might already be set up ok so that'll save some money. If not, it's not hard to take them off and send them in.
I love projects!
Suspension Forks
I lucked out on a pair of Chili Works recumbent forks with a long enough steerer tube. Bit heavy but they look cool.

Nishiki party bike 2.0
You can see the amplifier, sealed lead acid battery, 4 speakers from my RCA surround sound system, iPod, on/off switch, and the subwoofer hanging off to the side.
The biggest improvement was packaging the majority of components into the crate.
The Nishiki party bike is back with version 2.0. A more solid system, less likely to break down, and now completely portable.
Version 2.1 will arrive soon that adds some portability and strength enhancements.
I turned up the volume on the accompanying video so you could hear more of the bass, but the microphone on my camera has a limit on how low of a frequency it will record.

later on me and trev added another battery in paralell so that we could get twice the amperage considering its only got 14 amps per battery. im going to buy a 230 amp tractor battery for it soon.

Hoffman BP-706 Solar
The Hoffman Electronics Corporation began in 1941 in Los Angeles and just prior to the U.S. entry into WWII, began producing tube radios.
Over the years they grew steadily from a small radio manufacturer into a diversified national corporation.
From 1941 to 1977, Hoffman made major advances in solar power and solar cells, semi-conductors, airborne navigation systems, color television, transistor radios, satellite and antenna transmission and radar technology. In 1977 the company sold off their main divisions to Gould Electronics, a leading manufacturer of circuit boards and military products.
I was surprised to find out that this sort of solar power was available over 50 years ago. Why have we been using batteries all this time?
An attractive cabinet of powder blue with a mirror escutcheon below the tuning dial. The sun design above the Hoffman name is a nice touch as are the "plus signs" or stars.
In 1957 Hoffman released the P411 (solar) and P410 (battery only) radios which used the same cabinet as the historic Sony TR-6. The chassis was different but from the outside the two radios were almost splitting images.
The solar P411 appeared on the cover of Popular Science that same year.

I’ve been slacking on the photography in the last few months. Lately I haven’t really been that motivated to shoot and I’ve been complaining to Sangeeta about how I’m just out of ideas. So she scheduled a photo walk for the two of us and our friend Jen in San Francisco in my Microsoft Outlook and today we ran around downtown taking shots. The photos really weren’t going that well for me. I wasn’t able to hit anything creative but as we walked by a group of motorcycles, Sangeeta said “oh take that”.
Anyway, after looking through my camera and realizing that the shots just weren’t coming, Sangeeta says “okay, well I guess the photos just aren’t working today and since we’re downtown… we might as well go shopping.” I guess that makes sense...

Today is national ride your bike to work day. Or as I like to call it... Friday. I'm just glad the weather was decent enough to actually ride to work. I know I'm a wuss for not wanting to ride in less then perfect conditions, but it's more about the fact that people around town get completely insane when it comes to driving in "bad" weather. Hell, they are pretty lousy drivers in GOOD weather. Anyway, Bike On!

Mercurialmagpie made me get a bike helmet for when I ride my Schwinn cruiser (with fenders, crome skull hand grips and valve caps, of course) since we live off a main highway. Could I have a normal looking hemet? No. So I added bomber goggles to the front and the sugar skull that is the Sacred City Derby Girls logo to the back. I am thinking that Buck Rogers lightning wings are next for the helmet, but then I will need a ray gun for the bike and so on. She should have left well enough alone and let me ride the bike with my pomade styled hair not moving in the wind.

Water Measurement with Flumes and Weirs
This manual describes how to design, construct, and operate long-throated flumes to measure and control water flow in open channels. Broad-crested weirs with a streamlined flow contraction are members of the long-throated flume family and can be analyzed with the techniques described herein. Broad-crested weirs are particularly well adapted to irrigation canals, while long-throated flumes are well adapted to natural streams. The range of conditions over which flow can be measured with long-throated flumes and broad-crested weirs is unlimited. A large variety of examples are presented. The manual includes a revised mathematical model for designing a flow-measuring structure in any open channel to satisfy user-specified hydraulic boundary conditions and design requirements. Upon completion of the design, the model will compute the head-versus-discharge relation and the hydraulic energy losses for the flume or weir. The computer program presented in this publication can accommodate a wide variety of structure and channel shapes as well as many different input and output units. This version greatly expands upon the capabilities of previously published programs.

Hanging Flume, Dolores River, Western Colorado
Clinging to the massive sandstone cliffs some 100-150 feet above the Dolores River Canyon, is a wooden flume which was built between 1889 and 1890. The seven-mile flume and associated ditches delivered 80 million gallons of water per day from the San Miguel River to operate mining equipment at the Lone Tree Place site. Even though the site was only 40 feet above the Dolores River, the technology was not yet available to pump water directly from the river at the necessary volume and pressure to separate the gold from the gravel.
Ranch Building & Flume: South of Redmesa, Colorado (CO)
The incongruously shiny new roof on this old building is what first attracted me. But then I noticed the flume in the background, yet another attempt to bring water to a parched land. This is the last photo from my trip. While I was waiting in line to enter Mesa Verde National Park, my car was hit by a dump truck and I had to return home prematurely. Bummer.

transit strike = court summons
A nice thing to receive 5 days before Christmas......
on the first day of the MTA transit strike, after returning from a flurry of a last minute Christmas related errands and discovering certain designated stores were either closed or only open after 5pm, after waiting half an hour on line at the post office to pick up a package that I was actually at home for the previous day when they 'tried' to deliver it; after picking up my bike which I had not ridden since the summer and which I had not ridden to the post office due to lack of information on how big said package would be, after deciding to walk alongside my bike with medium-sized package now clamped to back of bike whilst I pondered on plan B Christmas presents until my bikechain started clicking and demanded that I hop onto the pedals to fix the gears to keep bike in motion, just a few hours before I had to take a plane to England for my first Christmas home in 5 years without having wrapped vital Christmas presents nor having even started packing, half a block away from
my
front
door...

Women in blue overalls and grease-stained hands smile widely as they greet a customer carrying a broken bicycle.
This is precisely why they came to work this morning: to assist customers in need of bicycle repairs and to sell quality, second-hand bicycles at affordable prices.
Quickly noticing a loose pedal, Moreen Gaweses – a mother of two, grabs a wrench and begins to tighten.
“Time by time fixing bikes gets easier,” she says. “At first I didn’t know how to service bicycles. But after the training, I learnt. And as we’ve opened, I’ve learnt more.”
Located at CCN in Katutura, the King’s Daughters Bicycle Empowerment Centre opened in March to provide six women a chance to start over.

2001 5 Bens Battle Bike
"Bens Battle Bike, This ain't no Toy!
Are you wondering just what the sickest hardtail bike in the world is? Me too. I have a feeling it's built on a Le Toy frame though! It's probably a lot like this one. It's a mix of new and old parts, whatever I had available. It's heavy and rides like a tank, but happily rolls and/or drops off of anything. Yes, I know the front tire is on backwards, and until I get my fork fixed it's not going to have a front brake either. But all in all it's a truly excellent and unique ride. If you have any questions about it, just drop me an e-mail. Thanks!"
Hardtail bikes at Luxor
It's Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly weekend this weekend in Vegas so there are lots of interesting vehicles around.
I spotted these two hardtail bikes with suicide shifters in the Luxor carpark.

Bent Receiver
The next morning we went to a local car parts shop in Buffalo to get a new ball and receiver. The people there had heard about our accident. We were told that at least a couple times a year that people to spin out there, but usually in the winter.
Here is our bent receiver next to our new one. They're essentially the exact same product.
This was really the only thing that we had to pay for as a result of our accident and this was cheaper than what we had paid in Alaska -- something like $20.
Next up is the exhausting part.

Location: Belmont Race Course(near Burswood), WA, Australia
Photo by: a stranger who was also taking a photo of her friend
I took part in the Freeway Bike Hike today, raising money for the Asthma Foundation, getting some exercise, experiencing biking on the freeway and feeling some sense of achievement.
It was a last minute decision (5pm on Friday). I haven't biked much lately(as in, at all. Last time was a few weeks ago, and probably only 4kms or so) so my training yesterday was riding to the ABC Studios in East Perth, onto the city for breakfast and back. About 10kms in all. I didn't want to over do it. Even from this small ride I had saddle pain! So I bought some bicycle pants with padding (!) hoping it would help.
When I started this morning, I was sore, and my back and shoulders hurt a little bit too (the back issue is still from a few weeks ago I think, though, was gone in the last week). But once on the bike I was fine. I'll feel muscle pain in the morning though... And won't be able to get on my bike for a few days at least!! Luckily I don't feel anything sitting in a normal chair. :D
I had a bag with me, mainly to carry my camera so I could take photos and video on the way.
I finished in 1hour and 10 minutes, which I'm quite pleased about.
I didn't get an after photo :P
Using Your Feet (ODC 2 July)
Finally had a great opportunity to use my gadgets (tripod + interval timer remote) for a good reason: to respond to today's challenge! So I mounted my camera on the tripod and configured the remote to take 20 pix with a 1 second interval, so hopefully at least one of them would be usable. And here you see the result.
In case it's not obvious: that's me on my exercise bike, which in Holland, interestingly enough, is called "home trainer". None of my Canadian cousins knew the word ;-)
