Oregon is launching an NFT platform, which come with special edition Nike Air Max 1 sneakers

srijeda , 23.02.2022.

Two of the hottest acronyms of the last year are NFT (non-fungible token) and NIL (name, image, likeness) and those two worlds are colliding at the University of Oregon.

Oregon is launching an NFT platform called “Ducks of a Feather” and it will kick off with the “Flying Formation” collection, which includes 120 digital art pieces (based on the Oregon Duck mascot) by Nike executive Tinker Hatfield.

This project is the latest effort from the recently launched Division Street, which is an initiative to help student-athletes at Oregon capitalize on self-monetization after the recent policy change surrounding NIL.

“The Oregon brand has always stood for innovation and been immersed in culture, so it was natural for us to create the first unique online platform dedicated to representing and benefitting student-athletes,” said Division Street CEO Rosemary St. Clair.

“We continue to focus on creative and distinct ways for Oregon athletes to monetize their brands, and we think Ducks of a Feather will serve as a long-term platform to do that.”

Perhaps most exciting is that each purchase also comes with a physical, tangible object and owners also get a special edition, hyper-limited Nike Air Max 1 (designed by Hatfield) that has a visual representation of the NFT on the tongue.

Approximately 70% of the revenue from the initial auction will go to members of the football team. Several players (Jamal Hill, Noah Sewell, Justin Flowe, Mase Funa, Kris Hutson, TJ Bass, Brandon Dorlus) were asked to help provide content for the platform.

These players were asked to speak about brotherhood and the strength of a team. If you want to learn more about how the NFT works, allow Oregon’s Flowe to explain:

“As a former Oregon student-athlete, I remember clearly the sense of brotherhood that exists within our teams and it was an honor to create a depiction of that brotherhood through the design of Flying Formations,” Hatfield said.

“I have such a passion for the school and the athletes, and it’s a dream to work on something unique like this that directly supports them.”

The initial auction will be held on DucksOfAFeather.xyz at 10 am PST on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022. Secondary sales can exist on marketplaces like Opensea and 10% of those sales will go back to Oregon’s student-athletes as well.

Tinker Hatfield Designs a Nike Air Max 1 for Ducks Of A Feather NFT Launch

Furthering the connection between the worlds of footwear and NFTs, Tinker Hatfield has designed a Nike (NYSE:NKE -3.33%) Air Max 1 for the launch of the Ducks Of A Feather NFT.

Tasked by Division Street founded by Phil Knight and other University of Oregon alumni, the shoe will support the release of the inaugural 120-piece “Flying Formations” collection from Ducks Of A Feather. The new NFT platform aims to empower University of Oregon student-athletes and connect them to fans, boosters and collectors.

Aside from being created by Oregon alum Tinker Hatfield and based around the Oregon Duck, owners of the NFT will receive a pair of the Nike Air Max 1 designed by Hatfield.

Turning his attention back on the AM1, which he designed back in 1987, the legendary footwear designer drew from the stories of brotherhood from Oregon football players to create a representation of the strength of the team. Tinker Hatfield dressed the shoe in shades of green with midfoot Swooshes expressing an array of colors. The shoe also features tongue logos that represent the NFT and printed insoles also done in the arrangement of colors.

The initial auction of the “Flying Formations” collection will take place on the Ducks Of A Feather website. It is important to note, nearly 70% of revenue from the initial auction will go to participating football team members, while 10% will go to Division Street to distribute amongst the broader roster of teams.

The mesh tongue features a swoosh-adorned tag, and additional Nike logos are found on the heel and insole. THE HISTORY OF THE NIKE DUNK AND NIKE SB DUNK

A comprehensive breakdown of one of Nike’s most coveted sneaker silhouettes.

A simplistic design, a balanced color-blocking, extreme versatility in its shape and style – the Nike Dunk is one of the most collectible silhouettes on the market today. Basketball shoe turned skateboarding staple, the Dunk has enjoyed a full-force revival in the year 2020 and 2021, surpassing its original purpose as a college hoop sneaker by a long shot. Yet, one thing has remained the same: the Dunk’s incredible ability to unify art, fashion, music and popular culture into one seamless whole, consistently acting as a shoe for several subcultures worldwide.

The Dunk’s history is not linear, instead branching out into several smaller stories. This has made its tale incredibly rich. A large puzzle piece in its unusual evolution is the partitioning of the Nike Dunk and the Nike SB Dunk lines, two different trainers for two varying lifestyles. To the casual wearer, the small tweaks to the SB’s design meant very little. To the skateboarder, it was everything. While this can naturally make it difficult to tackle both the Nike Dunk and Nike SB Dunk in one cohesive story, it’s important that the two stories are woven together, along with the addition of the Nike Dunk Pro B and Nike Dunk CO.JP models. The four trajectories are anything but mutually exclusive.

Firmly recognized for its performance and street style today, the Nike Dunk and Nike SB Dunk has taken advantage of its own cachet and made an enormous resurgence in the contemporary day. A report from StockX had revealed that Nike’s SB Dunk became the new silhouette to break resale records on the marketplace in 2020, with its value increasing by more than 300%. Even the mainline, non-collaborative pairs are selling out instantly, regardless of whether they’re High or Low, Nike or Nike SB. In today’s limelight, each and every Nike Dunk iteration is a pot of gold.

We’re taking a deep dive into the silhouette, and are celebrating the sneakers’ 35-year history, exploring its complicated and colorful timeline, the reason for the silhouettes resurgence, the individuals that helped position the Dunk as an icon of skate, streetwear, creativity and one-of-a-kind designs, and of course, the Dunk’s impact on sneaker history and sneaker culture as a whole.
