New years resolutions...do you have one? Or more than one maybe? Honestly, I don't usually make new years resolutions. Why set myself up for failure. I know, that's a bad attitude. Instead of making resolutions once a year I try my best to live my life all year long with the strive for excellence and the will to succeed. I try to take my life one day at a time. I believe that if I take one day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time, and do the best I can do in that day or that hour then life will unfold in the best possible way. Of course sometimes the best things for us are the hardest things to get through...but there is a reason for all. In my opinion, if I had to make a new years resolution to do better in one area of my life then that would mean I'd have to admit that I have dropped the ball in that one area. How twisted am I? Not only do I have a hard time admitting to others when I'm wrong, but even to myself? Now that's just not right, lol. Okay, Okay.....I'll admit there are some areas of my life which I need to modify a bit in 2010. Modify? Resolution? Hum? Call it what you want. So what is it? My focus is on staying focused this year. I have a tendency to jump from one thing to another, getting all excited about something and letting IT take control. I vow to work on one thing at a time. I will have an optimistic attitude even in the face of failure or rejection...because I have faith that what I am doing is good, is honest, is helpful, is needed, and is respected. I vow to not have to please everyone this year, and I vow NOT to focus on those that do not see my vision, but rather include those that do see my vision in my quest to succeed. I vow to remember that when I fail I learn something.......which ultimately brings me closer to reaching my final goal. Final goal? Is there such a thing? I don't think so.....at least not for me. Is there ever a point in our lives when we are truly satisfied? I'd like to think so. But how often do you hear, or even tell yourself things like this, "Once I lose weight everything will be good" or "If only I had more money, then things would be perfect" or "As soon as the kids reach a certain age things will be easier" the list goes on. What we fail to realize is that THIS is the only time we have. Today, this hour, this minute is all we are ever guaranteed, so lets do our best this year to live every minute, every hour, every day to the best of our ability. Know that it's okay to fall, but it's not okay to stay down. We will get up brush ourselves off and keep going. Happy New Year and let's make 2010 a year that we gave 100%.......that's all that matters.....not where we end up....but how we got there...wherever that will be. It's a New Year!! BAM 23/52 Every year I get excited about the " New Year" fresh start. Every year, no lie I make lists of things I would like to accomplish in the coming year. I usually get very few things checked off. I think that with getting older, you realize that certain things are unattainable. ( NO Matter how hard I try I will never acheive Jillian Micheals 6 pack) Also with age, you realize that certain things just are not that important- ( Like the year I swore I would be the best mom and take my daughter to every museum in the city, which did not happen btw, and the ones we did attend she had more fun playing with the museum's water fountain than learning a lick about Dinosaurs!) For me, goals now are simple. I stick to attainable goals that work with my lifestyle. Finishing my 365 was Huge for me. Starting a small photography business has been huge for me as well. I don't know how it will all turn out, but I will be baby stepping all the way. Last year, more than anything, I became more forgiving of myself. I forgave myself for days when I felt like I couldn't go out and work out, I forgave myself for giving Elio's to the kids for dinner, I forgave myself for falling asleep on the couch, and I let myself have that second glass of wine.I forgave my body, forgave my mind. It's been liberating. But here I am now, January,And a few things have to change. Unfortunately I've been too nice to myself.I've packed on the newlywed 15. I very happily packed it on, and I know that late night edidting and munchies have done me in! I need to get back to taking care of me physically,and I'm signing up again for the May 10 mile race down Broad Street. I did it last year, but very unhappily, I wasn't prepared. I'm starting my training early this time, to give myself lots of time, so I can be kind on my body! I might even have to start walking to begin. I'm determined to do it though, and I'm determined to enjoy it more this time around. And, one thing, I'd like to do, ( here it goes) is BAM in my bathing suit!!!! EEEK!But I'm putting it out there, and I'm gonna look to ya'll to help me with this, to remind me!!! My friend Tiffany really helped me with this, she is not shy in front of the camera at all! Over the years I have become more comfortable in my own skin, and gasp, I even like myself a lot. This is not about losing weight, it's about attaining a goal, and accomplishing something happily. They can be seen on every major street less than a mile apart from each other and sometimes, so close, they even share parking lots. With these images I show different fast food chains. Almost every building had an American flag waving out front, beckoning customers to stop in for a quick meal. The buildings are photographed at dusk and stand alone. I make them appear as the ominous and dangerous creatures that they are. Fractions! The more I use my flash unit, the more I wonder how I was able to function before I had it. There's no way I could have taken such a clear photograph indoors without it. Unfortunately, the hands are blown out, but it's not a big deal when the players' faces are well defined. For this shot, I bounced the flash off of a white towel. He's slowly eating solid food -- mainly tuna. The vet thinks all of this was caused by the trama of evacuating for Hurricane Rita. Stress causes some cats not to eat, and when they dont eat, obviously they start to develop health problems. I noticed a few weeks ago he wasn't eating normal amounts, but when you have three cats, its hard to moniter exactly how much each one is eating. He is still very jaundiced from the liver problems caused by his refusal to eat -- as you can see by the yellow color of his mouth. More about feline Hepatic Lipidosis: --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hepatic Lipidosis in Cats Hepatic lipidosis is literally fat infiltration into liver cells. When it is severe, it can cause severe problems, including death of affected cats. Hepatic lipidosis occurs for any reason that forces a cat to begin to metabolize its own body fat rather than energy from food. As far as we know, this disorder probably does not occur as a primary problem. It is usually secondary to something else which causes the cat not to eat. It is more common in obese cats because they tend to metabolize fat more readily than thinner cats. Cats do not metabolize fat well. So the fat globules build up in a "backlog" in the cell, eventually making it unable to perform its normal functions at all. There are many many things which will cause a cat not to eat for a several days, however most often it caused by severe stress, such has moving to a new house. In many cases, the original cause of the not eating is gone when hepatic lipidosis becomes a problem. In other cases, it is necessary to find and correct the original problem in order to succeed in treating hepatic lipidosis. The only successful treatment that we know of for this disease is to ensure that the cat ingests sufficient calories to make it unnecessary for him to metabolize fat. Cats with hepatic lipidosis do not usually feel like eating. Therefore, it is usually necessary to force feed them in some way. The most consistently successful approach is to implant a stomach tube through their body wall and feed them through the stomach tube. It make take several months to reach the point a cat will eat on its own again. Many people are reluctant to implant stomach tubes and try to force feed orally or use appetite stimulants. Sometimes this works. Usually when it doesn't work, the cat is much worse off and it may be too late to take the other approach. This is a difficult disease for all family members. At present, the consensus of estimates seems to be that 70 to 80% of cats will recover from this condition if aggressively managed (i.e.-if they are fed adequate calories by whatever method it takes to get them in). Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router (F5D8232-4) N1 vision Wireless router Amazon.com Review If you've ever sat staring at the little blinking lights on your Wi-Fi router, wondering for minutes on end whether or not your Internet connection was hosed, you'll appreciate the quick visual feedback from the LCD screen mounted to the front of Belkin's N1 Vision router. You'll be able to suss out whether you have incoming/outgoing data, whether you have someone piggybacking on your network, and more. The N1 Vision offers draft 802.11n connectivity and a full complement of Gigabit Ethernet ports in back, and it compares well to other draft-N routers for speeds. It also has a handy guest access feature, which allows you to offer online connectivity to others while protecting your own PC network. Belkin's N1 Vision enables you to view Internet download activity as well as manage some security features via the LCD screen (click to see larger image). You can view both download and upload activity, current and 24-hour activity for PCs accessing the network, or just display the current time. The N1 Vision offers easy plug-and-play setup, for the most part. Configuration is done either by the software from the included disc, or going through your Web browser (by typing in "routersetup" into the address field). It can configure your Internet settings from a range of embedded ISPs, and we selected Comcast. However, we weren't able to automatically connect and had to do the unplugging dance--first the modem, then the router, then restart each one. After we were up and running, we made sure to select security settings (which, largely, can only be done via these two methods). Featuring one of the best looking router designs around, the N1 Vision's main claim to fame is its monochrome LCD and push-button navigation for accessing stats as well as some control over security. The inital screen provides an overview of all functions--including detected Internet connection, whether wired or wireless computers are using the network, and if security is turned on. Pressing the left/right buttons on the navigation pad gets you to more granular info screens, showing upload/download activity in speedometer format, current speeds, connected users, and date/time. We caught ourselves staring at the speedometer quite a bit, but happily discovered you can set the screen to turn off after two minutes of inactivity (which helped return our focus). On the downside, there's no view of throughput between PCs on a network--you just get Internet upload and download activity. And we found that the navigation buttons were frustrating to operate (they require a hefty press). Also note that the N1 doesn't come with a USB port for connecting a NAS hard drive or printer. As far as speeds, the N1 Vision compared closely to our Apple Airport Extreme--both of which reside in the middle range of throughput for 802.11n routers--and we were pleased with both its reliability and overall performance in downloading large multimedia files quickly and efficiently. Over Wi-Fi, we downloaded an 80 MB QuickTime file from MySpace in just a little over 2 minutes (an average of 633 KB per second, or about 5 Mbps). In PC to PC transfers, a 200 MB file was transferred in an average of 32 seconds over Wi-Fi (6.25 MB per second, or 50 Mbps) while it took only 8 seconds via Ethernet thanks to the router's Gigabit speed. Because of its draft-N capabilities, the N1 Vision provides excellent Wi-Fi range, and we seamlessly streamed 128K MP3 Internet radio without it rebuffering up to half a block from our home (over 200 feet). Comparing the N1 Vision to our Airport Express, both had similiar Internet download speeds and the Belkin easily bested the Non-Gigabit Apple router in the wired Ethernet PC-to-PC test. However, the Airport Express did a better job with intra-network transfers over Wi-Fi by about 20 percent. Aside from the screen and the speed, the N1 Vision also offers some interesting security features. In addition to standard WEP and WPA (the latter being the more secure), the N1 lets you to set up separate service set identifier, or SSID, which basically enables you to set up guest access to a Wi-Fi connection without allowing access to other areas of your network. It's easily accomplished via the N1's LCD menus, which creates a second Wi-Fi connection called "guest" and provides a passkey that can be shared--all the while continuing to provide your main Wi-Fi network. While the LCD screen is one of the big selling points of the N1 Vision, the router loses a bit of its wow factor when the LCD is programmed to turn off when not active. But it was helpful to have to check when Internet download speeds seemed clogged. And overall, the N1 Vision provided sturdy (though not at the top of its 802.11n class) Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet speeds as well as a broad coverage range. --Agen G.N. before & after this month has mark my 2 year anniversary of my gastric bypass surgery. must people dont know i had the surgery. this marks a very big thing in my life a huge choice i made to better myself - i want to thank my mother for being there for me since day one of all the procedures and crazyness that went on before i went under the knife, thanks to alex kristal & janay for being there. still loosing weight here and there. almost to my goal weight :) 2 Years After Gastric Bypass Surgery June 5, 2009 was 2 years since my RNY gastric bypass surgery. It was done at Tampa General Hospital by Dr. Michel Murr. I am thankful each day for him because this surgery has changed my life! I no longer have high blood pressure, high cholesterol , high triglycerides or sleep apnea. At the time of the surgery I was also borderline diabetic. Now I have energy and do not get out of breath with the least little bit of exertion. Life is good! wedding cupcakes Chocolate Guinness Cupcakes Preheat oven to 325 and add liners to pan (this recipe makes a TON of cupcakes, like two dozen) Mix together 3/4 veggie oil, 4 tsp white vinegar, and 1 tsp vanilla extract (wierd, i know). In another bowl combine 3 c flour, 2 c granulated sugar, 2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 c cocoa powder. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour the oil mixture into the center. Then pour 1 12oz bottle of guinness (or other beer) into the well as well as 1 1/2 c water. Beat with a mixer til blended. Fill liner's 3/4 full and bake for 20 min. Irish Cream Frosting Mix 1 lbs confectioner's sugar, 5 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter at room temp, 1/4 c milk, 1/4 tsp salt and 3 tbsp Irish Cream until fluffy. Low Fat Carrot Cake Muffins Preheat oven to 350 and put liners into pans (this recipe i think made 18 cupcakes) combine 1 1/2 c flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, 1/4 tsp ground ginger in a bowl, mix well. In separate bowl combine 1 large egg, 2 tbsp veggie oil, 1/4 c raisins, 1/4 c chopped nuts, 1/2 c low fat milk, 1 8oz can crushed pineapple, 1 1/2 c grated carrots, 1/4 c brown sugar (I forgot this part. My sister and her boyfriend liked it not as sweet, i would have preferred to have added the brown sugar). Combine wet and dry ingredients. Stir to blend. Fill liners 3/4 full and bake for 20-25 min. Cream Cheese Frosting In a bowl mix 1 8oz pkg of Cream Cheese and 6 tbsp of unsalted butter, both at room temp add 3 c confectioners sugar and 1 tsp vanilla and mix til lumps are gone. The beer cupcakes were the favorites. They came out nice and moist and were tasty, especially with the frosting. I'm also psyched about how many come out per batch since I'm making so many. The frosting was also very tasty. Tasty enough to eat straight from the bowl. The carrot cake ones were made sans brown sugar (because I was spacy). People liked them without just fine, I would have preferred at least some more sweetness. I also think dates instead of raisins would be interesting, and I am always wanting to add more ginger. Maybe use the ginger variation of the cream cheese frosting where you add 1/2 tsp ground ginger. Apple Carrot Walnut Bread This is a good way to use leftover pulps of apple and carrot from juicing. In order to make it healthier, I used only 1/2 amount of sugar and 1/2 amount of oil than normal recipes, and I added 1/4 cup of lemonade. There is natural sweetness from apple and carrot pulps, so sugar can be a small amount in this bread. I substituted low-fat milk and low-fat yogurt for buttermilk this time. w/ cake flour (1 cup), all-purpose flour (1 cup), baking powder (2 tsp), cinnamon (1 tsp), salt (1/2 tsp), eggs (2 + 1 york), vegetable oil (1/4 cup), low-fat milk (3 oz), low-fat yogurt (3 oz), brown sugar (1/2 cup), carrot and apple pulps (1 cups), walnut (1 cup), vanilla extract (1/2 tsp) ... baked in the oven at 350F for 65 minutes.
