Calf-binding (also sometimes called half-calf, full-calf, half-bound or full-bound, depending on the amount, or simply leather-bound) is a book bound with rigid protective covers typically made of binder's board and covered in leather, usually calfskin.

(Photo book) A photographic album, or photo album, is a collection of photographs, generally in a book. Some albums have compartments which the photos may be slipped into; other albums have heavy paper with a sticky surface covered with clear plastic sheets, in which photos can be put.

An old family Carte de Visite photograph album

A wonderful leather-bound photo album, dating to the Victorian period. The clasp is missing and the cover is worn, but like all old books, it holds a special sort of magic.
It was designed to display 'carte de visite" or CDV cards, which were small photographs mounted on thick board, produced by the many various photographic studios that were established in the mid to late 19th century. It is possible to date, fairly accurately, these cards by their shape, and also by the range of designs that were printed on the backs of the cards by the studios.

I made this book on a course taught by the incredibly talented Nina Judin, in 2006. The book is kind of complicated to explain, but I took some extra photos to clarify a thing or two.
