Jane has the world deceived.
They mistake her as perfect, though it's not shown in their actions or words. Everyone except her best friends, Avril and Sebastian, misjudges her. She carries a strange aura which leads people to believe she truly has no flaws.
But they don't know she has insomnia. How she would stay awake every night without a hint of sleep. All thanks to the leaving of her father, and one horrible cousin claiming if Jane stayed awake during nights, her father would rejoin them. Which he never did. The only one who understands the torment she faces is the internet pal she never met in real life. Unfortunately, they stopped contacting her a year ago for reasons Jane still doesn't comprehend.
Feeling isolated and lost, she can't help understanding River, her new next-door-neighbour who also suffers from insomnia. Everybody else avoids the mention of this name --they all know exactly who the Mullaney's are and the dark secrets they carry, for they've lived in the town once before.
Jane doesn't know why everybody tends to avoid her next-door-neighbour.
