BEACH CRUZER BIKE

The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership, Inc. is a non-for-profit organization; the geographic area that we protect is located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA, about 35 miles south of New York City.

The Partnership was founded in 1997 to provide a unifying environmental force for the central New Jersey towns of North Brunswick, South Brunswick, East Brunswick, the Borough of Milltown, and the City of New Brunswick, all of which have land within the 48-square-mile Lawrence Brook Watershed.

Most of our activities are done by volunteers, of all ages, and of all backgrounds (scientists, teachers, engineers, college students, high school students, retirees, canoeists, bicycle riders, nature lovers, fishermen, parent-and-child teams, and most of all, people who care about their community's natural resources). A bicycle boulevard is a street with traffic calming features designed to give bicycles priority and slow car traffic to bike speed -- 15 mph -- without slowing bikes.

This is a two-way residential street just parallel to busy Shattuck Avenue, built as an alternative to striping bike lanes on Shattuck. A subtler touch: traffic on many cross streets stops for traffic on the bike boulevard.

In the course of a twenty-minute walk, I saw many children, seniors, women, and other cyclists who might not use a "typical" cycling facility on this street.
