Today at a car show, my car is parked next to it's twin. Both 1967 Plymouth Barracuda notchbacks painted 1970 Plum Crazy, both with their tail panels painted black, both having 340 small blocks (though mine has been stroked), similar stances, super stock springs, tire sizes, etc.. While there were differences, I was surprised to see how many customizations we've done nearly identical.

Hi all... this was an early morning stroll down to the headlands to try and catch some morning light...
Well after setting up my spot and playing around with some filters... (new toys.. :~}.. ) I set my camera up to take shots every 30secs of the slowly changing light... but I kinda got it all wrong.. just as the direct light came over the horizon and high lighted the foreground rocks that the light started to show up all those salt spray on the filters... but as I had it all running automatically I wasn't reviewing the shots.. I was just enjoying swatting the mozzies and the light show...
Well imagine my dismay when I checked on my computer to find that I had buggered up... dang.. well that is all part of the learning experience.. don't pretend to know what I am doing..as something will go wrong...
This is the last one that was half decent.. I do like the light on the rocks and water... just hate the sun and blur from the salt spray... double dang...
But still I learnt something... (I hope..)..

All Hail the King
So finally I did it. After numerous lens from Tamron, Sigma, and Canon, I decided it was finally time to make the plunge. Enough is enough, and after years of telling people the lens is more important than the camera, I finally followed my own advice. So out go the lens, the filters, the books on improving pictures (none of which I have actually read...) - because now there are no excuses. I can't wait to go out and play! BTW, it is a Canon 24-105 f/4L series. Stay tuned.

1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group conducted Operation TOPAK SHKAR (Pashtu for "Gun Hunter") in partnership with Afghan National Security Forces from October 27 - 28, 2010 in the Panjwa'i District. The aim of Operation TOPAK SHKAR was to disrupt insurgents and deny them freedom of movement.
Operation ATHENA is Canada's participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. Focused on Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan since the fall of 2005, Op ATHENA has one over-arching objective: to leave Afghanistan to Afghans, in a country that is better governed, more peaceful and more secure.

Barr & Stroud 7 x 50 Naval Binoculars 1930s/40s
Barr and Stroud collaborated in 1888 on a naval rangefinder. They eventually formed a company in 1913 and in the 1930s won the contract to supply naval binoculars. The pair shown is seen on many war films, and is a pattern fitted with extendible "ray shields", a lens hood, here seen extended. There are three internal filters operated by thumb levers under the prism housings. These are yellow, neutral density and dark green. These must also be a late pair, as they are fitted with valve nipples to pump nitrogen into the binoculars as a better seal.
This type of binocular was, with the Canadian REL, a Bausch & Lomb design manufactured under license, the standard lookout binocular. Mind, in 'The Cruel Sea', a pair of Barr & Strouds transform themselves into Canadia REL binos when Jack Hawkins climbs down from the bridge with the former and, by the time he's reached the bottom of the ladder, they have become RELs!
A smaller version identical, but 7 x 42 was used by Fleet Air Arm observers.

The requirements of the client (medical lab examining blood samples of patients) were: bluish colour, motif of hands, and some orchis (if possible).
Post processing was done in GIMP: high pass filter, duplication of layer, colouring of new layer to blueish hue, and application of a mask that made the portion of the blossom transparent to show the original colour of it (from the bottom layer).

as requested a before and after view of the photo in question I love it. I'm still looking for feedback.
rethinking the steps with PSE7 I selected Baby and Dad's hands with the magic lasso tool, then inverted the selection, on a the master hue saturation layer I desaturated and removed all the lightness, then I Processed the rest of the image in black and white, adjusting red blue and green levels as I went and finally converting to black and white, it looks gitty because of a high pass filter application.

My $0.00 Under the Desk Organizer
Always in the spirit of being (acting?) organized, I decided to move some things off the top fo my desktop to underneath like the DSL modem (which needs rare attention) and my USB / Firewire external drives.
As much as I try to bundle and clamp wires. it always ends up a jungle down there. My shelf solution uses two wood doors from kitchen cabinets long gone, and supports from some un-used bricks.
While moving all this stuff around (which began simply by a desire to add a DSL filter to the phone line in an effort to cut some annoying phone buzz), I began pulling wires, moving stuff underneath.
it just so happens while re-plugging phone/ethernet lines, my Qwest service must have blinked out, as one phone went dead (the fax line was good) and the net went out. Oh, for one thing mixed up the LAN and LINE ports on the DSL modem. Even once that sorted out, it was some 10 minutes of cussing, re-checking, and suddenly, the lights all blinked back on.
GTD? hardly.

Iced coffee
I love iced coffee in hot weather, but I hate paying for it. Good thing it's ridiculously easy to make. I cold brew the coffee overnight: 1/3c ground coffee and 1 1/2 cups water in a jar or container at room temperature for 12 hours or so, then put it through a coffee filter or fine mesh strainer to get the grounds out.
The resulting coffee is quite strong, more of a concentrate. I mix it about one to one (it's not a very rigorous process...) with milk and some sugar (and ice of course). Water works too, if you're not into milk.
Sometimes the sugar doesn't dissolve all the way because it's so cold, unless I'm using my travel mug in which case I just shake it. I'm considering making some simple syrup or something for sweetening iced coffee and tea, but that sort of feels like more work than I care to put into it.
As photos go, I don't really like this. The colours of the desk and drink don't contrast enough

I made a V60 dripper stand out of an ikea shelf thing I had lying around. Chopped out some of the meshing. Worked pretty well.

The widespread notion of what a chopper looks like is Hollywood’s perpetuation of what was, essentially, a Southern California fashion statement made decades ago. The high tank and long-fork look got stuck in peoples’ minds thanks to a rash of wanton biker flicks from the ‘60s. Since then, however, the look of custom motorcycles has evolved from coast to coast and across the seas. Avant garde practitioners like Gard Hollinger have come up with many more interpretations of what “chopping” a motorcycle actually means. He coined the term retro-modernistic to describe his own style. Just as present-day musicians sample earlier recordings and embed snippets of tunes within contemporary compositions, Hollinger pays homage to older motorcycles by applying classical accents to radically engineered machines and using familiar parts in unfamiliar ways to emphasize their unconventional relationships with the rest of the bike. For instance, he will mount an automotive oil filter where you might expect to see a carburetor or fit a gas tank that looks like a lunch pail between a top tube and a motor mount. His goal is not to engineer machines agile enough to take on crotch rockets through twisty canyons; his bikes are made to turn heads, not corners. An art bike must still be roadworthy and reliable. “When you ride it, I want you to get a thrill,” says Hollinger, “I don’t want it to just be scary.”
Oil Change Disaster
I don't have a filter wrench, so I just stuck a screwdriver in and turned... all was well until I dropped the filter into the oil pan, sending used motor oil all over the floor, the bike, and me. Thank God this only has to be done every 3,000 miles.

1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sugar, or 1 cup ‚œœ"
1 tsp vanilla or almond extract
4 eggs
2.5 cups combination of coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, milk, eggnog, evaporated milk, whatever you have at home)
1lb rice flour ( Mochiko or green bag rice flour )
1.5 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
red bean paste, canned or homemade red bean/chestnut paste
topping, shredded conconut, walnuts/pecans
1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the oil, sugar,eggs, vanilla and milk, well blended.
3. In a separate larger bowl, stir together the rice flour, baking powder and salt.
4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and stir to blend.
5. Pour half of the batter into 9x13 inch baking sheet and bake for 10 min.
6. Spread red beans and top with walnuts, and pour rest of the batter, top with
walnuts and shredded coconut if desired.
7. Bake for 20min. Cool , then cut into squares to serve.
