"'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' is a song written by Bennie Benjamin, Gloria Caldwell and Sol Marcus for the singer/pianist Nina Simone, who first recorded it in 1964. 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' has been recorded or performed by many artists, and is widely known by the 1965 blues rock hit recording from The Animals. A 1977 disco/Latin rendition by Santa Esmeralda was also a hit.

The beginnings of 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' came with composer and arranger Horace Ott, who came up with the melody and chorus lyric line after a temporary falling out with his girlfriend (and wife-to-be), Gloria Caldwell. He then brought it to writing partners Bennie Benjamin and Sol Marcus to complete. However, when it came time for songwriting credits, rules of the time prevented BMI writers (Ott) from officially collaborating with ASCAP members (the other two), so Ott instead listed Caldwell's name on the credits.

'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' was one of five songs involving the writing of Benjamin and Marcus, presented for Nina Simone's 1964 album Broadway-Blues-Ballads. There, it is taken at a very slow tempo and arranged around harp and other orchestral elements; a backing choir appears at several points. Simone sings it in her usual hard-to-categorize style. Horace Ott's involvement did not end with his initial songwriting; he was the arranger and orchestral conductor for the entire album. Backed with 'A Monster', 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' was released as a single in 1964, but failed to chart.

To some writers, this 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' carried the subtext of the American Civil Rights Movement that concerned much of Simone's work of the time; while to others, this was more personal, and was the song, and phrase, that best exemplified Simone's career and life.

Decades later, a commercial for Christian Dior's perfume J'Adore, starring Charlize Theron, featured Simone's version of the song.

The Animals' lead singer Eric Burdon would later say of the song, 'It was never considered pop material, but it somehow got passed on to us and we fell in love with it immediately.' The Animals gave it one of their trademark R&B-unto-rock workups, speeding up the tempo and starting off with a memorable electric guitar-and-organ doubled riff from Hilton Valentine and Alan Price, that was picked out and expanded from an element that originally appeared in the Simone recording's outro. This riff immediately led into Burdon's trademark deep, impassioned vocal line:

The group gained a trans-Atlantic hit in early 1965 from their rendition, rising to number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, number 15 on the U.S. pop singles chart, and number 4 in Canada.

This single was ranked by Rolling Stone at #315 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

In Animals concerts at the time, the group maintained the recorded arrangement, but Burdon sometimes slowed the vocal line down to an almost spoken part, recapturing a bit of the Simone flavor.

A disco version of the song by Santa Esmeralda featuring Leroy Gomez, which took The Animals' arrangement and added some disco, flamenco, salsa, and other Latin rhythm and ornamentation elements to it, also became a hit in the 1970s. First released in summer 1977 as a 16-minute epic that took up an entire side of their Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood album, it was picked up for more worldwide distribution by the label of the time, Casablanca Records. A 12-inch club remix was extremely popular, hitting number one on the U.S. Billboard Club Play Singles chart and in some European countries as well. Released as a pop single late in the year, it did well as well, reaching number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 by early 1978.

Santa Esmeralda's rendition then became widely popular with a later generation after its inclusion in the 2003 film Kill Bill Vol. 1, where its instrumental passage plays over the Bride-O-Ren Ishii duel, and the accompanying Kill Bill Vol. 1 Original Soundtrack, where it is incorporated in a full vocal form that runs over 10 minutes. A rendition of the Santa 'Don't Let' appears in the 2008 Korean 'western' film The Good, the Bad, the Weird, played in the chasing sequence in Manchurian desert.

The Santa 'Don't Let' was also used as the opening theme to the pilot for the U.S. game show Bullseye and in the trailer for the 2005 film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I was the baby of my family, and he is my baby of this family.

He is my most attached, takes him eons to get comfortable enough to leave my side where ever we go.

Maybe this means he'll never leave. I haven't left my mother, we talk almost everyday and she lives right next door!

Being the baby of this family he is never alone. In some ways he is not as independent as the others were and in other ways, even moreso.

He is my old man in a baby's body. His feet hurt when he walks too much, his back aches when he plays too much, he only wants to sleep in his own bed and he has to tell me everything he is doing when he is doing it, funny sometimes, annoying at others.

But let him tell it, "I am NOT a baby, I am big. See?"

baby week 28 - temptations for sleep

oh.. I want to have a nap now.. I want a chaise lounge where I can lay down and sleep for an hour.. all I can do now is to have a cup of coffee to keep awake.. which I don't want to because I don't drink coffee that often anymore and do not want to overdose the baby with too much caffein.. maybe I should focus on our countdown to our holidays in Portugal.. where there are blue skies, yellow houses, watermelons, and all other summery stuff :) I think it's already working.. :)

The Mournful Gate

If you can visualize it, there used to be a gate hanging on these old hinges and cedar post. It seperated the old homestead from the work area of a small west texas ranch. If you close your eyes and listen closely, you can hear the old gate squeak and slam as a nine year old boy named Gail would run out of the yard at crack of dawn. Then again followed by his best friend a young hound dog pup. The gate was left ajar as they headed out on some wild adventure or expedition of an old indian burial ground; sometimes he would be off to follow his uncle around the oil patch for the day checking lines and pumps and such. As he left you could hear the sound of his fathers voice yelling out reminding him how he always left the gate open.

These post and hinges witnessed his return everyday with the spoils of those adventures - a baby rabbit, a litter of baby skunks, a horned toad, a grass snake, or an old indian war hatchet.

Then when he was older one day he returned home with his beautiful new bride. Her name was Kathryn. She was his pride and joy. The posts were awestruck at her beauty. And proudly received the new couple into her court yard.

Shortly after they were married Gail left thru the gate again one day to go fight in the world's biggest war in history. He was gone a very long time. The gate wondered if he would ever come back. Its post leaned and it drooped in sadness. Then after several years had past Gail returned again. Looking very sharp and handsome wearing his Class A dress uniform he proudly walked back thru this gate to be reunited with his beautiful young wife. The post stood proudly, the gate performed flawlessly, and the hinges sang his praises as he walked thru at last. Afterwards he and his bride moved to their own place and raised a beautiful family of five children.

The Gate and Post continued in their service as Gail's dad (Ira) would rise every morning and pass thru this gate to saddle his horse (Bill) and go work the cattle, feed the horses , mend the fences, and do whatever needed doing.

His wife (Laura) had died two weeks after giving birth to Gail in an old Log Cabin across the other side of the creek from this place. Ira had bought this house in the Town of Ranger, Texas and moved it here from over 20 miles away and put it on the back side of the ranch. He built a picket fence and this gate around the back of the house which faced west.

He was a man of solitude, a man of good character and great sense of humor, and a resourceful man. He loved his son, the land, the cattle, and his horse. Everyone called him Iry. His wife had died just two weeks after giving birh to their only child. So he remained a widower and raised Gail. He worked the land and cattle all the rest of his life. He was a true cowboy.

When Iry left for the nursing home the place was ok at first. Family came by to check on things. The horse (Bill) was fed, the cows were fed and cared for. After a long while when it was obvious that Iry wasn't coming back. The Old gate began to grieve and in tears the hinges were rusted and the old gate was dislodged from its place.

After many years these old post remain waiting for his return, longing to perform their service. On a windy day you can hear the old hinges singing their mournful song as they blow in the wind.

Theo and his Pa.

Last night as I was trying to find some little outfits for Theo in amongst the boxes and boxes of tiny little Priya clothes I got a bit teary eyed. This is normal, I know, when all those lovely pregnancy hormones are fading away. I held these sweet little dresses and felt so overwhelmed at having a son. I won't lie, I've felt very nervous about having a boy. I've worried about changing a nappy with a penis in it, worried if he'll be a grub magnet and hide bugs in his pockets, worried if I'll know how to relate with him, worried if I can raise him to be a kind man, worried if he'll marry someone who calls me their terrible mother-in-law, worried if he'll remember to call me when he leaves home, I've worried about having a boy.

But then I saw my little man with my dad and I realised, boys can be kind and gentle and wonderful. It is my greatest hope for Theo that we can raise him to be a good man, a good man like his Pa. I look at my little boy and I am so excited to have a son, so excited about this new adventure in parenting and looking forward to getting to know what it's like, raising a little man.

The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta . She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable
surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville , he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.

During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and ma kes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr.Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed
hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. DrBruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.

The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, 'Hand of Hope.' The text explaining the picture begins, 'The tiny hand of 21-week- old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life.'

this past sunday my friend i'm doing a project (the baby project, where you carry around a fake baby and pretend to be parents) with and i took our "project" to take picture with it in DC. This guy was walking across this one street so we saw him going towards the cherry blossoms and coming back. he was speaking and noticed our baby doll and said that quote. it was great. for the record i'm strongly against abortion and loved this man. someone yelled at him to stop yelling at him and i yelled at that man to shut up.
i've never been to DC when it was this crowded. i usually go early in the morning or to a weird part where there aren't a lot of people. so it was strange. but SO worth it to watch people watch my friend and i carry a fake baby around with us and take pictures with it. we're getting a A on this project.

Decisamente agile e longilineo fa acrobazie dentro casa e la sua energia deve trovare sfogo nel gioco, per poi appollaiarsi sulle spalle del padrone e passare con lui tutta la serata. Con un pelo molto morbido e setoso non necessita di particolari cure se non del passaggio di un panno di daino per lucidare il pelo e togliere i peli morti. L'alimentazione dev'essere proteica e di alta qualita, non affidarsi quindi al fai da te ricco unicamente di carboidrati.

1st Month with my baby love ABBIE

YEY! I just realized that my DSLR cam turned 1 month old today.

i got this from my parents as a birthday (which is still on July 28!) / Christmas gift for 2 whole years. worth it. haha!

received it exactly 2:15am on december 2, 2008
bought by my father at korea since it is cheaper and he gave it to me exactly on that date and time. haha!

even though its still a month old, it had experience with the wide lens of jay, tele lens of jay, kit lens (mine), 50mm lens of jay, even a simple tripod which i own and bulky tripod of manoy, the receiver of parts eric or was it gio's? and the flash of jay. YEY!!!

it has traveled to the mountains, to the beaches, to school, the streets and it will travel further more to different places along with me!

it has met a lot of people and fellow cameras (whatever the brand) through its time with me. it has also spend a lot of time in hands of different people even for a moment. he is really friendly! :D

it has taken a lot of pictures and made most of my dreams come true in views and points, vice versa. it has seen a lot through the kit lens which it comes along with. (too bad i was using a 50mm lens in the pic. D=)

I just love it so much.

I called it Baby Love in the beginning, now I have thought of a name for it. haha!

the name is Abbie. it means God is Joy, Origin is Hebrew. it is a unisex name.
nice! :D

i love the meaning of the name since I asked and prayed God for it for a whole month before it came to me! so thankful to God. :D he blesses me always, whether in good or bad! God is good all the time, all the time God is good! AMEN!!! XD

the name will be my gift for him for our first month together! :D

I love my 450D so much! it is my child and lover and best friend.

I know God will bless me more, teach me more, show me more and love me more! :D
