Unborn Babies Development

Breaking the cycle of malnutrition
World Vision’s Area Development programme (ADP) in Melghat, Maharashtra has designed an effective model to reduce the cycle of malnutrition. With the support of the local health department, World Vision has been working towards reducing malnutrition by addressing the health status and lifestyle of the people.
Malnutrition also poses serious risk to the health of the young mothers and their new-born babies. Studies have revealed that an under-weight mother bears children who are under-nourished. Malnutrition has adverse effects on the health of the mother and the unborn child. Young mothers who themselves are malnourished give birth to children with disabilities, poor immunity and can even lead to the death of children.
To break this vicious cycle, the project is focusing on special interventions among pregnant women and lactating mothers. It will be targeting about 1000 women who are pregnant and lactating mothers till the time their babies reach 6 months. While encouraging exclusive breast feeding for the babies till they attain 6 months, the project will also be giving supplementary nutrition to the mothers.
Melghat ADP is one of the 25 projects where the ‘Jump Start’ health initiative has been in implementation within World Vision India. Emphasizing on the health and nutritional requirement of pregnant mothers and children till they reach two years, the ‘Jump Start’ initiative is one way of breaking the cycle of Malnutrition.

She is 33 weeks pregnant, as of today, with her second child and is currently battling a very difficult pregnancy.
She has been on bed rest in the hospital for the past month and a half to keep from going into pre-mature labor.
The child, if it lasts full term, will be born in mid-December, but is expected to be at least a month early, if not sooner.
She is one of the strongest women that I personally know, and has struggled with a lot in her life.
She is the person I take after most in my family, and I love her.
