Bubbles Blankie I finished this little blankie in a few days… Surprise! Surprise!… well to me anyway… I had some of this yarn I had bought in New Zealand- thinking maybe a little jacket, then when I came home my daughter asked me if I could make it into a little blanket for her baby, for in the carseat & stroller/pram – so it’s only a little one [about 29” x 27”]. She got me some more yarn so I got right into it once it arrived but when I started I thought it might be a bit fine… it has a soft towelling texture so I decided to crochet it double… It has crocheted up to be so very soft & thick, so it will also be a great blanket for the baby to lie on. Our other Grandies have come to calling this new bub, ‘Bubble’ as one of them reckons, that is what the baby looked like in one of the scans, so Bubble it is until we know the real name… ha ha BTW… my model ‘doll’ has been very obliging once again. creepy dolls waiting outside a store Baby dolls in a real baby's stroller. Dreyfous in Dalou: Sa Vie et Son Oeuvre, this composition was based on a group entitled Juno Suckling the Infant Hercules, which the artist later destroyed. Two slightly reduced versions of this composition exist: one in the Hermitage, St Petersburg, and the other also in the V&A (Museum no. A.27-1912). The slight reduction in size of these two versions suggests they were cast from a mould taken from this piece, but they may have been slightly reworked by the artist. There are also a number of small-scale versions of this group. A terracotta (height 45 cm) in the collection of Mr and Mrs Michael Travers (formerly in the collection of P. M. Turner) is signed and dated 1872. It is possible that this is the original sketch model, as it is the earliest dated version of the group. Another terracotta is in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (dated 1873; height 49 cm), and there are two in private collections. A plaster version is in the Petit Palais, Paris (height 52 cm). This was the model for editions by Susse Freres in bronze and Sevres in biscuit porcelain (no. 1045). A marble version of the same group, probably a workshop piece (height 94.5 cm) was sold by Matthiesen's, London, in 1955 to an English private collection. From there it passed in 1986 to a French private collection. An engraving of this composition (a mirror image) was made by Achille-Isodore Gilbert and published in 1876 in an article about the London art world in the journal L'Art. A drawing, also a mirror image, was then made from this engraving by Vincent Van Gogh. Hungry Hungry Hippo Ha ha! I crack me up! OK, I had to do a fun one for a change of pace. I got these little hippo charms for a mini-project for a friend of mine and I just had to do something with the extras because I think they are so darned cute. This necklace is made strong enough to also be used as a nursing necklace! Nursing necklaces are designed to give baby something to play with to keep them from getting too distracted while nursing. Babies, especially once they reach about 3 or 4 months and begin to explore the world around them, like to pinch, scratch, poke, and yank on hair while breastfeeding or bottle feeding, and these necklaces provide something fun and pretty to grab without hurting you. Loop pendant is made up of fiber-optic cats-eye beads and red crystal glass and is double-strung with strong nylon coated wire and hanging from a satin cord with lobster-claw clasp. The charm is hooked on there with wire and it's strong. I wore another hippo loop that I made for myself to wear during my vacationing and it withstood all sorts of yanking and tugging as my daughter is quite fond of the smiley little guy and I had to do a lot of hiking with her on my arm. baby shower I had a baby shower to go to this Sunday and as luck would have it there were pens and paper out on the table. They were supposed to be used to play the word search (you can see it bleeding through) which i did do. But the back of the paper was free game :) This is a sketch of the center piece. They were DUM DUM lollypop trees. Real cute! Family My awesome sister, Kim, and my mom organized a baby shower for me when I went home to Minnesota. Mainly it was an excuse to eat Josh's delicious food and spend time with the ladies of the family. I cried a lot, but it was because I was so happy to see everyone. I know I did some reading on red corral trying to find out what it meant. When I glanced up at the first sound, he quickly reached into the bag (out of my view) and with a defiant catbird smile put a bite in his mouth. He's a handsome boy and must have gotten his contempt for me from his mother. There is a dark haired student age male sitting to me right who keeps pantomiming or miming things at me. A while ago he stared at me and mouthed something. I can't remember what it was, but I think it may have been "Hi, Tom.". When I glanced over at his look, he quickly put his cheek on his palm and showed me the top of his head. Just now he moved back quickly in his chair, turned around and searched the area behind him as he placed the palm of one hand at the base of his skull rubbing it as though to alleviate some discomfort. This latter gesture is one they have taunted me with for 30 or 40 years. The Tiffany is eating and chewing with more vigor and there is a dark haired male, student age, to his left who coughs twice at me periodically. He has a contemptuous catbird smile also. It is (Rubbing the base of the skull, I mean.) an expression or mime of the tension felt by someone who is experiencing a mental assault or negative vibes or whatever. They generally have done it in the past in the tone and mood of braggadocio over the charismatic power of some particular antagonist. He has a kind of baby face and he just said, "right" to me but I think it was psychic. That back and forth head motion I have described is the same kind of gesture. The dark-haired-student- age-male-2-cougher (actually, he hasn't persisted...well he just cleared his throat at me so maybe...) just made the motion with a self-satisfied smile.))) is nearly has unsatisfying Aristotle's explanation of gravity: "Things tend toward their center." We were pretty nervous about how she would do because it isn't exactly cushy. But I placed a little blanket beneath her and she slept until 3 am - right inside her normal range. It is much lighter than a pack and play. But it is probably more akin to a dog bed with dangling toys above. Now that I think about it, we probably could have used this instead of bringing the activity mat. I was pretty happy that all of our baby acoutrements were flat and collapsible, like the bouncy seat, the bath chair, the activity mat and this little travel bed. Although next visit, we may just need the bath chair. I was pretty proud of myself. I visited a stationery store on Trade Street during Arts on Foot in downtown Winston. I was in love with all of the beautiful papers in Snooze's shop. I introduced myself and told her I would live to teach a workshop there. She seemed excited by the idea. So I think the chances are high. I'm already thinking of a fall 2009 NC tour. I hope to line a few different workshops together over a week or two period. How fun! Let me know if you are interested. Waltham St Lawrence; Berkshire Waltham St. Lawrence Church sits in an idyllic setting in the centre of a quiet village, well away from passing traffic. A farmyard on one side and the superb Wealden-built Bell Inn on the other. Western Christianity cherubim have sometimes become confused with putti—innocent souls, looking liked winged children, that sing praises to God daily—that can be seen in innumerable church frescoes and in the work of painters such as Raphael and Rubens. In Catholic theology, as per the ideas presented in the writings of Pseudo-Dionysius, the cherubim are second highest rank in the angelic hierarchy, below the Seraphim. My kids and my brother's kids devoted the weekend to circling and listing everything they wanted for Christmas from the big pile of ads that just kept growing with each new newspaper. It's tradition. It's also great writing practice for Emily, and an easy way to keep her from asking me for everything. I just say, "Wow! That DOES look neat. Better put it on your list!" and send her off to take care of it herself. I love having a literate daughter. Annika is super adorable when she's reading. She's usually very quiet, unless she's upset and screaming. She doesn't babble. She uses a few key words (mama and baba, mainly) or she points. But--when she reads, she has a voice. Spring in the cemetery Erno and I went out to my favourite graveyard yesterday and, even though we were more into losing ourselves than learning anything, we did learn a couple of cool new things. First off, if Erno can be in deep shade, and shoot into sunlight, the glare problem is minimized. Second (and this was the real revelation), Erno fits on my tripod!!! I guess those little screwy things are almost universal. Like... any camera, no matter what its age, make, etc.... seems to fit on the "standard" tripod screw. This had not occurred to me. I'd never even thought to look at Erno's (ahem) underparts. And so (as mentioned previously) I'd been packing around a stool for him to sit on, and propping him up as needed with pine cones and whatnot to get the right angles. But now I know he can go on the tripod. Woo-freakin'-hoo! Look out world, Erno and I are a-comin' to take yer picture. Oh Christmas Tree I know this is a poor image, but I was getting the older kids up for school and saw the baby playing with the lights and I had to have the shot..She was sitting quietly looking at all the ornaments and removing the lights. Christmas is so much more magical when children are around I finally agreed to colored lights for the first time and you know what, I like them and the kids LOVE them..I even let the kids decorate the tree any way they wanted. Damn, I'm mellowing in my OLD age.. New Born Baby Maxence... at the maternity trying to wonder what will look mini tibi... Maxence and I were quite big babies (4.625 kg for Maxence and 3.625 kg for me)... so maybe mini-tibi will be big as well ? Maxence has quite some nice pictures of him as a baby... unfrotunately, I have near no picture of me as a baby or when I have some they are of very bad quality... hard to know what i was looking like. Ava @ 4 months more in comments. Found some old pics of Ava. She's gonna be 3 at the end of the month (Dec. 28). She was the cutest little bald baby. I thought that she was gonna be bald forever. Gone to Carolina Inn Last night was Lucy's first night in a hotel room. She did pretty well in this little travel bed from Target. It folds up into a little bag you carry over your shoulder. We were pretty nervous about how she would do because it isn't exactly cushy. But I placed a little blanket beneath her and she slept until 3 am - right inside her normal range. It is much lighter than a pack and play. But it is probably more akin to a dog bed with dangling toys above. Now that I think about it, we probably could have used this instead of bringing the activity mat. I was pretty happy that all of our baby acoutrements were flat and collapsible, like the bouncy seat, the bath chair, the activity mat and this little travel bed. Although next visit, we may just need the bath chair. I was pretty proud of myself. I visited a stationery store on Trade Street during Arts on Foot in downtown Winston. I was in love with all of the beautiful papers in Snooze's shop. I introduced myself and told her I would live to teach a workshop there. She seemed excited by the idea. So I think the chances are high. I'm already thinking of a fall 2009 NC tour. I hope to line a few different workshops together over a week or two period. How fun! Let me know if you are interested. They were supposed to be used to play the word search (you can see it bleeding through) which i did do. But the back of the paper was free game :) This is a sketch of the center piece. They were DUM DUM lollypop trees. Real cute! Family My awesome sister, Kim, and my mom organized a baby shower for me when I went home to Minnesota. Mainly it was an excuse to eat Josh's delicious food and spend time with the ladies of the family. I cried a lot, but it was because I was so happy to see everyone. My kids and my brother's kids devoted the weekend to circling and listing everything they wanted for Christmas from the big pile of ads that just kept growing with each new newspaper. It's tradition. It's also great writing practice for Emily, and an easy way to keep her from asking me for everything. I just say, "Wow! That DOES look neat. Better put it on your list!" and send her off to take care of it herself. I love having a literate daughter. Annika is super adorable when she's reading. She's usually very quiet, unless she's upset and screaming. She doesn't babble. She uses a few key words (mama and baba, mainly) or she points. But--when she reads, she has a voice. Spring in the cemetery Erno and I went out to my favourite graveyard yesterday and, even though we were more into losing ourselves than learning anything, we did learn a couple of cool new things. First off, if Erno can be in deep shade, and shoot into sunlight, the glare problem is minimized. Second (and this was the real revelation), Erno fits on my tripod!!! I guess those little screwy things are almost universal. Like... any camera, no matter what its age, make, etc.... seems to fit on the "standard" tripod screw. This had not occurred to me. I'd never even thought to look at Erno's (ahem) underparts. And so (as mentioned previously) I'd been packing around a stool for him to sit on, and propping him up as needed with pine cones and whatnot to get the right angles. But now I know he can go on the tripod. Woo-freakin'-hoo! Look out world, Erno and I are a-comin' to take yer picture. Oh Christmas Tree I know this is a poor image, but I was getting the older kids up for school and saw the baby playing with the lights and I had to have the shot..She was sitting quietly looking at all the ornaments and removing the lights. Christmas is so much more magical when children are around I finally agreed to colored lights for the first time and you know what, I like them and the kids LOVE them..I even let the kids decorate the tree any way they wanted. Damn, I'm mellowing in my OLD age..
